To think if Andrew had been caught cheating instead of Fergie...

...they would have worked it out and still be married?

Speculation about them remarrying has been in the papers again today. I don’t see it happening - but I can’t help thinking they sacrificed their marriage for the public image of the Royal Family. A Royal wife couldn’t be seen to get away with infidelity, even if the marriage was salvageable. However, had Andrew been papped sucking some tart’s toes instead of vice versa, I reckon Fergie would have been forced down the ‘dignified silence’ route - and perhaps the marriage would have survived as a result.

Obviously I know nothing about them personally, and the press picture could be very different to the reality. But I find it interesting to wonder if Fergie paid the price for being a woman and the ‘incomer’ - and indeed, if Andrew also effectively paid the price for his position and public image, whereas a layman might have worked to forgive his wife.

Any person with a modicum would have ended the marriage. They may have stay together on paper for public image or for the children but if she had any self esteem her marriage to him would have been over in every meaningful way. If anything I would say that the pressure for women to end marriages post infidelity is even stronger than it is for men.

AamdC · 10/11/2018 09:44

I agree Seren but a lot of things were a disgrace back in the 80,s the whole Charles and Diana,s marriage for when , all for the sake of keeping. up with appearences.

SerenDippitty · 10/11/2018 09:47

It really shouldntt be a big deal if he is gay , Im old enough tp remember all the Randy Andy headlines all a big cover?

Me too and the Koo Stark thing.

AviatorShades · 10/11/2018 09:49

Amazing, the things you read on here!...'Randy'Andrew gay ? I thought that was possibly the other one, the tall one into the theatre who cried during It's a Royal Knockout? Gosh!

AamdC · 10/11/2018 09:49

The Royal family have moved on Princess Margaret wasent allowed to Marry a Divorcee , but i do wonder that if it was William rather than Harry who had fallen in love with an American Divorcee would he have been allowed to marry her?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 09:52

In his 20s, there is a good chance he wasn’t sure of his sexuality. I remember all the Randy Andy headlines in the 80s too.

Diana threw Fergie under the bus in 1992. They had both made a pact to leave their husbands, but Diana used Fergie to «test the water» so to speak.

Thé Epstain thing was covered up.
However; who’s the other one who was invited to the wedding?

Cherries101 · 10/11/2018 09:59

A bit unfair considering ALL of the Queen’s children except Edward have been divorced. I think when she and Prince Phillip die, we will finally get the truth about them as parents — pushy, distant, cold and uncaring of their children. Too much propaganda at the moment.

borderline11 · 10/11/2018 10:01

I laughed when I read “some tart’s toes” because I knew it would have Mumsnet up in arms
I laughed at that too, we didn’t have to wait long. Grin

itsaboojum · 10/11/2018 10:02

Why are we assuming he didn’t? Unless he’s been too busy helping sell arms to despots....... well, Yemeni children don’t bomb themselves, so of course it’s justified. Grrrrr.

The royals have always had mistresses (and whatever the male equivalent is.) Cross-aristocratic tupping has resulted in so much inbreeding that even the corgi has a club foot. At least Lady Die had the presence of mind to introduce the England rugby team into the royal gene pool.

kaitlinktm · 10/11/2018 10:03

What makes you so sure I don’t think Fergie’s bloke was a tart?

I thought the toegate guy was her financial advisor - or was that a euphemism? Confused

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 10/11/2018 10:14

Maybe they're quite happy as they are - either he's gay and gets to fly under the radar with Fergie as his friend and co-parent/partner. Or he's not gay and they're together but don't want to make a fuss of it.

I dont feel sorry for them. I think they're doing exactly what they want. Just because it's not 'official' or in the public eye doesn't mean they're unhappy with that.

I love Fergie, she just has a 'don't give a fuck' look on her face most of the time, she looked fabulous at both recent royal weddings and of all the royals, he's the one I'd most like to hang out and have a drink with.

EachandEveryone · 10/11/2018 10:16

I would've thought it was Edward and not Andrew as well.

AvoidingDM · 10/11/2018 10:16

Cherries i don't think anything will come out that hasn't already. The Queen rules the country, Philip rules the family. He knows they have to protect the Royal image or they will be ousted as happened in Greece when he was a child. Protect the image will have been instilled into all baby royals.

It will be tough enough for Charlie who's served the longest apprenticeship ever to take the top job. Without scandals about his family and parents- protect the image!

Andrew and Fergie i think they will eventually re-marry. They still live in the same house regardless of affairs etc neither seems to have moved on.

Hah. Unfortunately just shagging them doesn't diversify the gene pool. You have to actually produce offspring with them for that.

Her sons have done a great job in diversifying the gene pool though, I applaud them for not bending to pressure and marrying some dull arsed blue blooded aristocrats.

borderline11 · 10/11/2018 10:17

The word tart is mysonogistic it is used purely to describe females.

The whole English language is littered with words that pertain to females, most often in a complimentary way. Life will become very tedious if all our words have to be censored for fear of not being neutral to both sexes.

The word “tart” can sometimes be highly appropriate in certain circumstances, as can the word “wanker” (practically always used to describe certain males).

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 10/11/2018 10:19

Really? Do you think the British public would oust them just because they remarry or come out as gay? Christ, they couldn't damage their public image any more than they already have. And people still love them.

AvoidingDM · 10/11/2018 10:20

I wonder if the arrangement suits Fergie as she doesn't need to do Royal engagements where if she was married she would, ie benefits of royalty without the hassle.
The big focus is now on Harry & William so Fergie could remarry without taking on workload.

borderline11 · 10/11/2018 10:23

The queen rules the country
Surely no one thinks that. Confused

longwayoff · 10/11/2018 10:23

Furiosa. Why? You have to ask? Because he's a royal.

AvoidingDM · 10/11/2018 10:24

Ok head of state, only meets with PM every week.

itsaboojum · 10/11/2018 10:26

How could they possibly be ousted? They are in charge of all the armed forces.

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 10/11/2018 10:26

The queen rules the country

She really doesn't.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for her meetings with our current PM. I wonder if she's given her a bollocking for the shit show she has presided over.
