to ask when you put your Christmas tree up?

The Christmas markets are up in my town centre now, the Christmas lights are on and several houses near me have got their trees up already! This is very very wrong, we're not even halfway through November!

When does yours go up? Mine goes up on 1st December.

1st Sunday in December here. We put the decorations up, have a family roast and then watch a Christmas film together. DS will be home this year as well for the first time in 3 years so can’t wait. Grin

Natsku · 10/11/2018 07:52

Up the weekend before Christmas, down on the 6th Jan.

Dumbledora · 10/11/2018 07:53

We put ours up the first weekend in December. Stays up til 2nd Jan.

We have our naice tree in the sitting room but I've bought a 6ft fibre optic one for the dining room. I know it's ultra tacky but DS has sn and he loves colour changing lights. We're letting him go wild with the decs as that's 'his' tree.
Can't wait!!!!!

Treaclepie19 · 10/11/2018 07:55

1st Saturday in December normally :)

topcat2014 · 10/11/2018 07:56

17th December, or maybe 23rd!

dontyouforgetaboutme · 10/11/2018 07:58

My family always put it up on Christmas Eve with mince pies and carols. DH and the children want it earlier so we compromise now on 2 weeks before. So this year it will be 15th. It stays up until 12th night. Hate it when I hear of people ripping theirs down on Boxing Day (having put it up in November!! Wrong wrong wrong)

mossyroundhill · 10/11/2018 07:58

DP is very adamant about which day we -I- put the tree up. Has to be the 12th. But I have recently managed to wangle it to the second weekend of December because I pointed out it may be difficult to get the tree down and decorate it on a weekday evening.
Stays up until 5th January.

puzzledlady · 10/11/2018 08:02

Will my date change your mind in anyway? Or are you just looking for people to have a goad at - for those who put up their tree up mid December? We’re putting ours up in Nov so my grandmother can see as much of Christmas as possible - it’s her last one so we want to prolong Christmas. Sorry if we’re offending you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dockray · 10/11/2018 08:05

Trees go up on Christmas Eve and stay up til 12th night. We do have other decorations that can go up gradually from the 1st Dec though.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/11/2018 08:08

First weekend in December 🤗 buy and let it open out etc on the Saturday, decorate on the Sunday.

We start putting house decorations - lights, paperchains etc - up after my birthday (16 Nov)

I don’t understand going to all that effort of decorating if they’re only going to be up a week! Although part of me does admire the restrained-ness of the tradition of putting it up on Xmas eve. Seems a waste of a good tree though.

Justabadwife · 10/11/2018 08:09

This year mine are going up on the weekend of the 8th Dec.
It's either then or the 22nd as I'm at work pretty much the rest of the time.
I can't wait. I've got a lovely new thin tree, I'm going to get some pretty pink and grey baubles, and the cats probably going to try and eat it all. 😂

tigercub50 · 10/11/2018 08:11

I have an early December birthday so ours is bought & decorated on the day or pretty near to it & taken down on 12th night.

Dobbythesockelf · 10/11/2018 08:12

Used to be mid December but now with dc it's the 1st Sunday in December. I really enjoy Xmas though. I try and get most of my shopping done before December so that I can spend December doing Christmas things that don't involve busy shopping centres.

MakeAHouseAHome · 10/11/2018 08:14

It has to already be all up for the 1st December. So the weekend before that when we have time to do the whole house.

Thirtyrock39 · 10/11/2018 08:14

If it was up to me it'd be about the 15th but kid pressure means usually the second weekend in December - used to do it the 1st but was sick of the clutter by Christmas
Always take it down 2nd jan

Bluelonerose · 10/11/2018 08:15

Mine normally goes up when it's the final of I'm a celebrity get me out of here.
We have a tub of chocolates Xmas movies on then we order a Chinese & eat it with just the Xmas lights on.

If I put it up any earlier it would be down before Xmas as it drives me mad.

Who are these people putting them up now? Shock

You've either got acres of room for a tree or no cats to dismantle it Hmm

Dandybelle · 10/11/2018 08:19

Usually first weekend in December but this year it's going up on the 24th of Nov because I'm due DC2 on the 25th and I want it up before I give birth and it'll keep me busy 😬

MsSquiz · 10/11/2018 08:42

Usually the 1st December, but this year I'm out for Christmas drinks and we are hosting my side of the family for an early Christmas lunch on the 2nd, so it's going up on 30th November 🎄

Blanchedupetitpois · 10/11/2018 08:45

First or second weekend in December usually. We have a real tree so any earlier and it wouldn’t last!

Squirrelblanket · 10/11/2018 08:50

We usually mark American Thanksgiving which is the fourth Thursday in November and then the tree goes up on the Friday. However this year we're away that weekend so it will probably be the first weekend in December.

It comes down the day after Boxing Day.

DinosApple · 10/11/2018 08:58

After the 16th December (we get a real tree). And it comes down on the 6th January.

OscarWildesGreenCarnation · 10/11/2018 08:58

15th December, and down on January 2nd... Love it, but by boxing day I've had enough!

eloliphant · 10/11/2018 09:00

@ILoveAutum I meant the trees being up now are wrong, not the markets!

eloliphant · 10/11/2018 09:00

@kaytee87 that sounds lovely

LagunaBubbles · 10/11/2018 09:01

Definetly by the end of November. Thankfully there aren't Christmas Police punishing me of "this is wrong". And no I'm not, never have been and never will be fed up with it come Christmas! Grin
