To be disconcerted by finding a scantily clad young man in one of our beds

I came home this afternoon to what I believed to be an empty house. I went upstairs to eat a crafty bowl of icecream in bed. The spare bedroom door was open and a topless young man was in bed.
Aparently he is a friend of my sons. My son was out last night came home in the small hours. He talked to me at breakfast and make some brownies then caught a train to go away for the weekend.
I just talked to him. He says the other guy has left his car in a car park but cant go home yet as he is still over the limit.

(I have been drinking wine) Jump in with him and eat ice cream together?

JohnnyKarate · 09/11/2018 20:10

Sounds like they’re being sensible waiting till they are able to drive. Would never have left a friend my parents didn’t know in their house without tell them though.

Haffdonga · 09/11/2018 20:16

So your son didn't tell you his mate was staying over?
And the mate was still over the limit late in the afternoon?
And the mate stayed on despite the fact that your ds got up and went out at breakfast?

Eh?

yummytummy · 09/11/2018 20:16

i wish i could come home to a scantily clad young man in my bed (am single!)

MemoryOfSleep · 09/11/2018 20:18

I'd tell him to get on his bike. The old, 'you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!' Then read your son the root act when you see him. You're not running a b and b FFS.

masterandmargarita · 09/11/2018 20:19

I'm not sure I've ever eaten ice cream in bed

MemoryOfSleep · 09/11/2018 20:19

Sigh. Riot act, not root act...

AlpacaLypse · 09/11/2018 20:20

Does DS have previous form for forgetting to mention important things, like a mate crashing over in the spare room?

PippilottaLongstocking · 09/11/2018 20:24

Your son should have mentioned it! But honestly if he isn’t causing any trouble and is polite I’d let him hang around til he can drive again

MrsStrowman · 09/11/2018 20:25

@masterandmargarita you're missing out

Panticles · 09/11/2018 20:26

It is possible that they weren’t in the best state when they got home last night. I think they made a sensible choice to leave the car and sleep it off. DS who is Mr Sociability will have said kip down at mine, I think he should have mentioned it though.
Mr Sleepy had only just woken and may not have know DS had gone. He didn’t look embarrassed he gave a jaunty wave and said he would be off soon!
I hid with my ice cream until he went, embarrassment rather than anything else.

Caprisunorange · 09/11/2018 20:29

He can’t be over the limit at 8pm the next day!

Panticles · 09/11/2018 20:30

Yes he does have form for not mentioning important things. He I saw very sociable and independent. We have a list of things he MUST tell me. It looks like I will have to add to the list.

Your son sounds lovely in that he offered the friend somewhere to stay until he was OK to drive but he really should have told you!

Twisique · 09/11/2018 20:39

What flavour ice cream?

Haffdonga · 09/11/2018 20:41

Tell your ds that you were walking round naked. The horror of his mate seeing his mum in the nude might be enough to shock him into remembering to mention random sleeping friends the next time.

Panticles · 09/11/2018 20:46

Sorry to drip feed but it was vanilla ice cream, stewed apple and the last piece of ginger cake. I had been fantasising about this monster concoction all week.

You've reminded me I've still got some Kelly's with honeycomb bits left in the freezer from when it was BOGOF!

Tinkobell · 09/11/2018 21:08

I think your house would make fantastic reality TV viewing OP - guilty ice cream in bed in the afternoons, mysterious men - sounds great! 😁

MiddlingMum · 09/11/2018 21:19

vanilla ice cream, stewed apple and the last piece of ginger cake

I have just found my perfect pudding recipe.

(Misses point of thread entirely)

RyderWhiteSwan · 09/11/2018 21:20

My DC left years ago but I remember stepping over various slumbering bodies in the sitting room, after their very late nights. We lived in a city centre so I got used to their friends using our home as a crash pad Grin

Worieddd · 09/11/2018 21:21

You have also reminded me that I’ve got some strawberry cheesecake haagen daz in the freezer.

Bye.

Whipsmart · 09/11/2018 21:55
