To not wear sexy pyjamas to bed every night

AIBU to not want to wear sexy pyjamas to bed every night?

A little bit of a backstory - I was having dinner at in laws last night and the topic over dinner got to what you wear for bed. (I know very random)

My DP said that I have the worst taste in pjs and that 'most women' wear sexy pjs in bed. Not for a sexual reason just that they do. I totally disagreed with this and said that little outfits (playdoll outfits etc) are for sexy times and not to sleep in. I am guessing he would prefer this and like it. Then MIL backed DP up and said that she has always worn nice pjs and sexy outfits to bed.

I shut the conversation up after I figured I wouldn't get anywhere and wanted to be mindful who I was speaking to.

AIBU to want to wear comfy pyjamas to sleep in or should I be more inclined to get the playdoll outfits out?

Urghgh 'sexy pjs' are not comfortable for sleeping in. They ride up your bum and you fall out the top! Silky nighties slide about and strangle you. Fine for the 'preamble' but afterwards on go the comfy pjs Grin

When you are with someone who loves you they dont care what you wear as its you they want not the pjs. Buy dp a pair of baby dolls and tell him to wear them if he is that bothered with whats next to him in bed!

Comfort for sleeping in all the way. (and my HP pjs are very comfy I have light weight/vest top summer ones and long sleeved thick winter ones Grin)

And as for the oversharing from your mil just yeuuuuk.

To be honest if he says you have the "worst taste" in PJs you are probably wearing something quite unappealing as that's a weird thing to say if you are just wearing normal PJs. If you want to keep your relationship on the straight and narrow maybe you could sexy it up just a little bit as you have to put the effort in sometimes

Or maybe telling op she should wear what his MOTHER wears is just a bit fucking weird?

dontalltalkatonce · 09/11/2018 16:38

Surely most people wear nothing in bed?

Surely, there being 7bn people in the world, no one really knows what most people wear in bed.

Deadringer · 09/11/2018 16:39

How sexy are your DH's PJs op?

SilverySurfer · 09/11/2018 16:42

YADNU OP. Wear what the hell you like for a good night's sleep. I would be asking your DP what sexy little outfits he will be wearing to bed if he's so keen on them. Maybe a mankini www.bing.com/images/search?q=mankini&qpvt=mankini&FORM=IGRE Does anything look more ridiculous lol Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 09/11/2018 16:45

This time of year fleece pjs or a heavy flannel 'granny' gown. In summer a light 'nightie' or cotton sleep shorts and t shirt. Comfort all the way.

I don't get the 'sexy' nightwear thing. It all comes off anyway, so why bother?

Tell him you'll wear 'sexy' jams when he starts wearing this:

agirlhasnonameX · 09/11/2018 16:48

@cheesefield He'd love my fleecy tartan men's oversized unintentionally crotchless pyjamas.
So it's not just me then 😂 Crotchless is sexy though right

TheDogsMother · 09/11/2018 16:51

@TeamDixon The White Company does this sort of thing. It looks nice and is cosy too. I shop at one of their outlet stores so not too ££££

UpstartCrow · 09/11/2018 16:56

I've just found flannel PJ bottoms with pockets in Asda.

ALongHardWinter · 09/11/2018 16:59

Omzlas 'Sexy babydolls are for sexy times. They get thrown at the bedside, beside the penis beaker and jizzpants'. OMG that made me laugh out loud! Grin
But,OP,I do think it's rather weird that your MIL was discussing in front of her son, what sexy night clothes she wears!

Ruleof4 · 09/11/2018 17:01

Sexy pjs are so uncomfy with no stretch, even tried going a size up but then they just hang off you!

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 09/11/2018 17:02

What an awkward conversation, who wants to know what the MIL wears in bed, eek! I normally wear a longish nightie with teddies on, not very sexy!

DuckofDoom · 09/11/2018 17:02

I sleep naked. Hate feeling restricted in bed. I often wear mismatched pyjamas around the house and they are definitely not sexy!

BlitheringIdiots · 09/11/2018 17:03

I wear any old t shirt and big pants - comfort comes first

HildaZelda · 09/11/2018 17:05

Does your DH wear 'sexy' pyjamas to bed every night? I doubt it somehow.

tiggerkid · 09/11/2018 17:06

Then MIL backed DP up and said that she has always worn nice pjs and sexy outfits to bed.

I wonder if PIL would have backed up her story but he doesn't need to. I reckon it's BS because those, who have it, don't flaunt it and all that.

Ohyesiam · 09/11/2018 17:07

Pjs arnt sexy .
He’s thinking of sex clothes.

Not sure wtf his mum is thinking though.

Melamin · 09/11/2018 17:07

I shut the conversation up after I figured I wouldn't get anywhere and wanted to be mindful who I was speaking to

Too right Confused Hmm

Xenia · 09/11/2018 17:08

I don't wear anything in bed at all!
You could both compromise by neither of you wearing anything in bed form now on. Will save you money too.

The mother in law here is not being kind or nice. Most mothers in law would have taken the daughter in law's side to keep family peace and harmony.

HiHoToffee · 09/11/2018 17:09

I am another one who would like to what sexy pj's your dp wears?

Or is it just you who has to dress up in bed?

ReanimatedSGB · 09/11/2018 17:10

If your night attire is utterly rank (not washed for weeks at a time and covered in food stains) then he has a point, but otherwise, the 'sexy' stuff is for having sex and playing about in, not for sleeping, as PP said.

gilmoregal · 09/11/2018 17:12

What are sexy pjs? I have a pair of really nice Ted Baker pjs they're super soft navy and have a bit of lace on the top but they're not sexy and I doubt dh would ever think they are. The rest of my pjs are standard next soft ones.

In the summer I've got a couple of cami tops and shorts, still wouldn't call them sexy and definitely wouldn't be wearing them past August.

Also super weird conversation.

MustardPowder · 09/11/2018 17:15

My DH begs me to wear my winceyette pyjamas. He's perpetually cold so it's warmer for him to cuddle up to. Mind you, he has also has a penchant for winceyette sheets, duvets and pillow cases. In Dunelm he was often found in a trance-like state caressing the teddy bear fur sheets. He's banned from Dunelm now.

ClosdesMouches · 09/11/2018 17:18
Hmm
Hollyboots · 09/11/2018 17:20

I have some pjs that are satin (cami top and long trousers) that I guess could be construed as "sexy" but generallyI wear shorts and vest top (usually Disney themed, very sexy Grin) I have no idea how he'd know what "most women" wear and is in fact basing his argument on the fact that his mother walks around like something out of carry on bonking.

LuckyAmy1986 · 09/11/2018 17:20

I find the fact he wants you to wear what his mum wears and has always worn ( because let’s face it, that’s where this expectation has come from) quite creepy. I would find that so uncomfortable.
