To feel ashamed going to hairdressers with so much grey hair?

Basically I haven't dyed my hair in 3 years and I have so many grey hairs.
I really really want my hair done but I'm ashamed/embarrassed incase they think "early 30s so much grey etc etc "

I think they’ll love it, being able to transform you!

Ellisandra · 09/11/2018 13:22

Tell them you’re 40 🤷🏻‍♀️

I get why you’d be embarrassed if you hasn’t had time to go for a while - though you shouldn’t be!

But why would you be embarrassed at your age and the grey? Lots of women are greying at your age - but you don’t see it cos we’re all bloody dyeing it!

The hairdresser will know that, they’re the ones doing the dyeing.

They really won’t care. If you’re really embarrassed say “I was growing the dye out for a few years, but now I’ve changed my mind”.

QuaterMiss · 09/11/2018 13:25

So ... What's the etc, etc, the hairdresser is thinking?

"Oh my word - this person is too hideous to live. I don't want their money. I hope they drop dead on the doorstep"?

Oh, she could do with a good cut. Love those shoes ..."?

Oh wow, finally I can use all my training to show her how to bring out the best in grey hair. Hope she won't mind how much it's going to cost."?

You choose.

Hmm
ileclerc · 09/11/2018 13:25

Really? Come on that's ridiculous!!

DoraDont · 09/11/2018 13:26

Eh? Are you serious?

You have no control over what age your hair starts going grey. Be proud of it or get it dyed, the hairdresser won't give a flying fuck.

sansany · 09/11/2018 13:27

I know I'm such a worrier.
It's not all grey it's just strands really mixed in.
Strands showing in roots and strands of grey mixed in ..
Maybe 15 percent of hair grey.

Don’t let things like this stop you from doing the things you want to do.
Stop seeing yourself as the worst sort of person to step into hairdressers, shops, outer public spaces.
You are fine. You are normal. Go get that hairdo.

ButchyRestingFace · 09/11/2018 13:27

I was going to the hairdresser’s as a balding teenage girl.

Didn’t phase them. They’ll have seen it all.

DeadGood · 09/11/2018 13:28

I meant “other public spaces”, but outer public spaces sounds more exciting

Theres hardly no grey there! Please don't worry. I'm 33 and have grey roots every time I go and no one bats an eyelid.

sansany · 09/11/2018 13:36

I was tempted to start tweezing them but there's loads underneath etc

OP posts:
ileclerc · 09/11/2018 13:38

Christ there's hardly anything there. I'm 35 and about 40% grey. I go to the hairdressers and guess what, don't get them to colour it!! They have never once mentioned it it tried to get me to dye it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/11/2018 13:41

Of course you shouldn't be embarrassed even if you had lots of grey hair, which you don't!!

TonTonMacoute · 09/11/2018 13:45

Don't be ashamed of having grey hairs! As for being embarrassed to go to the hairdressers, that's like cleaning up before the cleaner comes round. If everyone dyed their own hair all the time, they would take quite a financial hit.

Lila288 · 09/11/2018 13:45

What's embarrassing about grey hair

VickieCherry · 09/11/2018 13:46

Eh? You're paying them to do your hair, they don't care how much grey you have. And 15% is nothing - I think grey strands look very pretty and glittery in the light. I started going grey at 17, so by my early 30s I was probably about 50% grey.

Going grey is completely normal, almost everyone has some grey by their 30s. We just don't see it because most women dye their hair.

sansany · 09/11/2018 13:47

I just didn't want them to think
She's let herself go etc

OP posts:
Perfectpeony · 09/11/2018 13:48

I’m 27 and have loads of grey. I’ve embraced it though and I quite like the white sparkly bits now. Smile

Yabu almost all my friends my age have some grey, hairdressers love a transformation like a PP mentioned. What are you thinking of getting done? Smile

sansany · 09/11/2018 13:50

I want to get something like this

MotherOfDragonite · 09/11/2018 13:50

YABU and I would totally stick with the grey and rock it! Two of my awesome friends have let their (early) greys shine through while they are still in their early to mid thirties and they look fantastic.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/11/2018 13:52

Honestly now. You're being ridiculous.

Tinty · 09/11/2018 13:53

Don't worry OP I imagine hairdressers probably love people going in with grey hair that they need to have dyed, because they know it will be repeat business. Those grey hairs never go away. Unless they fall out.

hamburgers · 09/11/2018 13:53

This is nothing to be embarrassed about. Are you generally a very anxious person?

Sometimes I get embarrassed when I go to the beauticians with a very hair foof to get it all waxed off but I think the beautician doesn't give a fuck really. Neither will your hairdresser.l about your grey hair - that's what their trained to deal with.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/11/2018 13:54

My hair was completely grey/white by the time I was 23. Pretty sure my hairdresser just likes the custom
