Hotel rooms with no toilet doors are terrible! AIBU?

I'm on a short holiday with my husband and we arrive at our hotel room. It looked like a reasonably nice room, so I was excited to see it. But when I do, I find it's one of those "honeymoon villa" type rooms with no door on the bathroom! The bathroom leads to the bedroom. The toilet is around a corner so not directly in eye sight but still. AIBU to think it's so much better to have a privacy, even staying with a partner. It's supposed to be romantic. How are bathroom sounds and smells romantic? Not having a lock is bad enough, but no door... argh. Or am I just a prude?

Oh god you're not wrong that sounds genuinely horrendous

Butteredghost · 09/11/2018 12:50

Why is this layout becoming popular? Is it supposed to be fancy or something. It isn't!

My friend went on a cruise like that, where there was no door on the bathroom.

SushiMonster · 09/11/2018 12:51

I’m with you 100%. I spent an entire holiday shitting in the toilets in reception because our bathroom was open to the bedroom. Round a corner, but no door to shit in smells or noises.

Nothisispatrick · 09/11/2018 12:52

I’ve never seen this but would hate it. I need privacy to poop and toilet sounds are not romantic.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 09/11/2018 12:52

I hate en suites, I shit often, loudly and very stinkily. It’s bad enough with a door let alone without!

halfwitpicker · 09/11/2018 12:52

YANBU.

BusterTheBulldog · 09/11/2018 12:52

So weird! We had one recently where the toilet was enclosed but the shower was in the bedroom, who looks sexy showering?! I also got in, accidentally blasted myself with cold water, shot out and slipped over.

I genuinely don’t know who thinks things like that are a good idea?!

StarfishSandwich · 09/11/2018 12:54

Me and DH are pretty open and comfortable with our bodily functions but I absolutely draw the line at open door pooing 😳

southnownorth · 09/11/2018 12:54

I would hate that. A lot of hotels now just have a see through glass wall for the bathroom. I do not want to be watched whilst having a poo.

MrsStrowman · 09/11/2018 12:54

We had a beautiful suite like this in Morocco the bathroom was only sectioned off with some intricate lace type patterned stonework, we didn't mind but DH and I often walk in when the other is in the bath or shower, but and this is a big one, the toilet had a door.

Threewheeler1 · 09/11/2018 12:54

Nooooooo! I'm with you. This is the worst idea in interiors ever.
My OH takes a big 30 minute stinky man-dump about five times a day. It's bad enough for the rest of us home dwellers with a bloody door up.
That'd have me gagging at the thought.
And what is so 'honeymoonish' about watching someone wash their bits and cut their toenails Envy
There's now way I'd be able to squeeze anything out with that arrangement - total privacy required.

We viewed a house once which had a toilet, no sink, just a toilet on a big raised platform at the edge of the master bedroom...right opposite where a bed would have to go. The house was a 50's 'architect' designed monster and had what looked like the original peach carpet throughout the room, stains and all. We couldn't stop laughing (and didn't make an offer) Grin
But good luck with the bathroom situation. I'd send the OH out when you need to use it!

soulrider · 09/11/2018 12:57

I've never seen one that's totally open. A few bathrooms with no proper door, just an arch but the toilet has always had it's own door. I quite like the open bathrooms so I can watch tv from the bath Smile

soulrider · 09/11/2018 12:59

Actually I think even the 'open bathrooms' had shutters or some other way of blocking the view from the bedroom

croissantmuffin · 09/11/2018 13:06

That is fucking awful.

I hate the ones with just frosted glass between the toilet and the bedroom so no door at all would pretty much ruin my holiday.

Hope the food is good and no-one gets the shits OP!

Unobtainable · 09/11/2018 13:11

Oh god YANBU at all.

I've had three, one in Switzerland, one in Malta and another in Spain.

The Swiss one just had a glass door but it wasn't in view of the bed. The one in Malta had glass swing doors with a foot of space above and below the door and was in full view of both the balcony and the bedroom/living area. The one in Spain took the biscuit though. at the side of the bedroom, just a partition wall, no door, inches from the bed. Lovely.

Why on earth people think this is acceptable I'll never know. I'd guarantee it's to do with cost though. Everything is.

ileclerc · 09/11/2018 13:12

@SushiMonster 'shit in smells' 😂😂

SushiMonster · 09/11/2018 13:15

@ileclerc ha ha Freudian slip there!

carrotflinger · 09/11/2018 13:16

Awful. I stayed in one once but I was on my own so it wasn't too bad. I'd absolutely hate it with a partner or friend.
Takes all the romance out of a first break away with someone for example. First weekend away - watch me shit.
Hopefully the trend will be over soon.
I also don't think showering in the middle of a hotel room is romantic either. I don't want a partner watching me was my arse.

pumpastrotter · 09/11/2018 13:20

Nothing romantic about smelling DH's colon and I have something of a fear about public pooing so that would be my worst nightmare. bath/shower doesn't bother me so much, but keep the toilet in a WC

SmashingInAthleticWear · 09/11/2018 13:25

Yep, had a toilet in a room in Morocco with just a low wall beside it - you couldn't see the toilet itself from the bed but you could see the other person sitting on it. And of course I got the shits after a couple of days.

StealthNinjaMum · 09/11/2018 13:25

That's awful, I hate doing a poo in public toilets but actually would prefer that to having a poo with no door in front of dh.

Why do people do this? I was looking at property porn earlier and found a stunning house - huge, huge bedrooms, beautiful marble everywhere, massive windows etc yet the master bedroom had no door between the bed area and the toilet / shower / sink area. It must've been at least 20 foot by 20 foot so why not shove a little wall in?

WindyWednesday · 09/11/2018 13:26

There’s a spa place in Cornwall. Maybe the Scarlett?.....
No door in the bathrooms there, only a glass barrier thing, I was going to book it before I saw that arrangement.

Jux · 09/11/2018 13:28

It's horrible isn't it? Unfortunately the people from whom we bought this house had converted two bedrooms to have en-suites like that. The first morning, dh got up early and went for a shit..... that did not end well Grin but at least it's never happened again. We can't afford to change it though.

Kittykat93 · 09/11/2018 13:32

Urgh I hate this!!!! What is so romantic about watching your other half squeeze one out ffs
