gussiefox I love Mooma and Moopa !!!

Storing that one away for future Grandchildren use!

toomuchtooold · 10/11/2018 10:37

My kids sometimes call me "mama" by mistake because we're in Germany and that's the German version of "mummy". In that context I will answer to it but I can't abide the way it's taken over the insta/yummy mummy world - it's like nobody wants to be a plain boring old mummy/mum, it's got to be different and special and new. FFS it was mostly bum wiping and cooking fish fingers 50 years ago and it's mostly bum wiping and fish fingers now.

Broomfieldbirths · 10/11/2018 10:41

I'd always assumed it was a mispronunciation of the European mama. It makes me twitch.

JustAskingForAFriend · 10/11/2018 10:51

I don't and have never used instagram. But my dd says mumma. But more in the 8m old way of mumumumumMUMMA at the top of her lungs lol.
Yet daddy is dad dad in her eyes lol

gussiefox · 10/11/2018 11:02

@BMOT Grin

slappinthebass · 10/11/2018 11:16

Oh yes, awful. Mama is ok though. I despise little man.

Giantbanger · 10/11/2018 11:39

Why does anyone care what someone else's youngster calls them? Other than to have a right good judgemental froth and a look down nose.

blueskiesandforests · 10/11/2018 12:28

Giant youngster?

But nobody is criticising what toddlers call their parents; the irritation is mostly with adults refering to themselves using twee infantile language.

Giantbanger · 10/11/2018 12:30

Twee infantile language, or regional variation?

My kids are still youngsters to me even though technically they aren't kids.

blueskiesandforests · 10/11/2018 12:35

Giant when people post about themselves in the 3rd person as a "Mumma bear" or as looking forward to the noms on their holibob with hubalub and bubs on social media it's twee infantile language.

Some things are regional. A lot of social media hun language is just twee and infantile.

golddustwomen · 10/11/2018 12:38

Hate it too!
Also hate the term 'little man' for baby boys... makes me sick to my stomach

Oldgranny · 10/11/2018 13:25

My 45 year old son calls me 'Mama'

Oldgranny · 10/11/2018 13:32

Sheesh I hate people who swear 😡

Devillanelle · 10/11/2018 13:42

Oh I can't abide mama. It reminds me of those instagram mums who wear mama sweaters and bleat on about babywearing and baby led weaning. 'Mum' is too frumpy when you're vegan and don't vaccinate your kids.

hiphopchick · 10/11/2018 14:18

YANBU. MUMMA is a hideous word.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/11/2018 14:30

Someone I know CONSTANTLY posts about their "small" - arrrrrrgh just use his bloody name or say "my son"
Ffs!!!

malificent7 · 10/11/2018 14:32

Depends who is saying it. Dd started calling me mumma at the age of 2...still does at 10. It's very cute!

Bluesheep8 · 10/11/2018 14:35

Never heard of mumma. I call my mother mammy though (Irish)

Notjustanyone · 10/11/2018 15:07

@gussiefox my 14 year old son does that when my youngest calls out for me and it drives me bloody nuts.

Coldilox · 10/11/2018 15:11

Devilanelle my four year old calls me Mama. Not on Instagram, meat lover and pro-science, so fuck off with your judgement. Why does what other people’s kids call them bother you so much?

SleepingStandingUp · 10/11/2018 18:31

I guess when he can talk I'll be Mommy then Mom but if its what your child calls you rather than what you call yourself in a third person self dialogue, who cares

museumum · 10/11/2018 18:36

My 5yr old has been calling me mumma when he wants cuddles since he could talk. No idea why but it’s lovely. The rest of the time I’m “muuuu-uum” 🙄

AnneOfCleavage · 10/11/2018 20:14

Sashkin On Little House in the Prairie the mother was just Ma wasn't she. Think you're thinking of Little Women. Either way it's very twee.

Sashkin · 11/11/2018 02:37

Anne you are quite right! Wrong “Little”.

buttercupsyrup · 11/11/2018 08:13

I work with someone who calls her son Diddy Man. Never refers to him by his name. Makes me cringe.
