New neighbors stole our bin

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 10:59

Actually can't believe I'm writing this but I think it's pretty amusing plus I've recently lost the will with pretty much everyone and need to share this before I lose the plot totally. 😂😂😂

New neighbors next door moved in yesterday..... I haven't met them yet...... It was recycling day yesterday and we have two recycling bins clearly marked with our house number on the lid and side of each the bin...... Went on school run as they were still moving in....... Came back home to find they had pinched one of my bins off my drive and stuffed it to full with their packagin brown boxes etc

  1. why?
  2. really why?
  3. I'm really annoyed because I'm going to have to go over there at some point today and ask for my bin back that I have to pay extra for having an additional bin and get to look like a dickhead neighbor being petty about bins. Great start to a new neighbor relationship but I can't let them have it or get away with it can I??
  4. I really wish I was making this up honestly

I don't know why my autocorrect is spelling Neighbors not neighbours

7yo7yo · 08/11/2018 11:02

Go and get it now!
Tell them to empty their rubbish out!
Cheeky bastards.

happypoobum · 08/11/2018 11:03

I would empty it out on their drive and take it back, but I am a feisty bitch Grin

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 11:05

Happypoobum I really want too but don't want to start off like this with them. Maybe I should go and explain theyve stole my bin but that's going to make me look like a dickhead lol

gamerchick · 08/11/2018 11:05

Just go and take it back. They don't know you pay extra for 2 bins. They might be thinking you've took the one from their house and are using it as your own since most people are only allowed one bin.

maddening · 08/11/2018 11:06

They are the ones looking like total dicks, it doesn't bode well for them being nice neighbours - it comes across as being the new neighbour equivalent of pissing to mark territory - if so and you submit it will only get worse. Be strong and remember they are the ones to be embarrassed.

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 11:06

I'm literally a walking doormat

PlateOfBiscuits · 08/11/2018 11:07

How annoying! Do they have a bin?

Tell them where the nearest tip/recycling centre is.

HurrahMoaningMyrtle · 08/11/2018 11:07

I'd graciously let them use it until next collection day but expect it to be returned then.
But seriously who does that? I'm afraid it doesn't bode well

Caselgarcia · 08/11/2018 11:07

If you don't make stand now after they have just moved in you are setting yourself up to be walked all over.
Big smile, knock on door, I'm your new neighbour, you've mistakenly taken our bin. Look it has our number on, shall I help take all your cardboard out?

HeadfirstForHalos · 08/11/2018 11:08

I would empty it on their drive and take it back too! If you feel cheeky doing that reelmind yourself how cheeky they were in the first place.

TemptressofWaikiki · 08/11/2018 11:08

Just empty it all out again - neatly stacked if you want to be nice - and take the bloody thing back. Your bins are clearly labelled. Seriously, what happened to some basic backbone?!

CantWaitToRetire · 08/11/2018 11:08

I would go round and introduce myself and say "I think you accidentally took one of my recycling bins and I need it back". Ask if they have any black sacks or something else to put their rubbish in, just so they know you don't intend taking their rubbish with the bin. Maybe give them the web address or telephone number for the local council to order their own bin, that way you're being polite and helpful and won't come across as the bin police Grin.

HeadfirstForHalos · 08/11/2018 11:09

You really don't have to ask for it back either, it's your bin!

StartingAgain1 · 08/11/2018 11:10

Empty it, take it back and leave a note saying you pay for two bins and they need to contact the council to arrange a bin. I'm not sure why you are worried, they are the ones stealing your bin on day 1!! If you leave it they will just keep taking the piss!

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 11:12

I'm going to give it untill this evening for them to put it back and if not go round. I think maybe the removal company blokes may have done it .... Maybe?? So yeah I'll.give it a while then go round later.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 08/11/2018 11:12

Years ago new neighbours filled my bin (and their own) with grass cuttings. No bag or anything. I knocked and said "that's my bin, can you remove the grass please?" They said "sorry, will do it now" and we all lived happily ever after.

saffyBoo · 08/11/2018 11:13

I'm.not worried I just don't want my first impression to be awkward and annoying I know it's not my fault but you know what it's like when neighbors you want to be on good terms

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 08/11/2018 11:14

Bin theft gives me the rage!

When we moved into our new build house, it had been empty for a while. We didn’t have any bins at all and had to argue with the council for new ones. Funnily enough the neighbours next door, who moved into their house a while before us, have two of each bin... we have FOUR bins that we never manage to fill so god knows why they need EIGHT?!?

thenightsky · 08/11/2018 11:14

They maybe spotted your two bins and thought you'd nicked theirs whilst the house was empty, and got your house number painted on it quick.

Go round and tell them, sorry but you appear to have wandered off with one of my paid-for bins. Give them the contact details for the council or whatever so they can pay for their own.

I've had the same thing happen with my green garden bin.

EmotionallyDestroyed · 08/11/2018 11:15

They're not going to give you it back... If it was then, they did it for a reason and if it was removals men then the neighbours won't even have noticed yet!

Honeyroar · 08/11/2018 11:23

You don't have to go round all guns blazing. Just pop round, say hi and explain that you someone has accidentally (!) taken your second bin, and you've popped round to collect it. Tell them that you pay extra for a second bin.. Then cross your fingers that they're nice!

Snowscreen · 08/11/2018 11:28

Go & put your number on it.

Or drag it back.

Juells · 08/11/2018 11:29

I'm always amazed on MN at how nice people are, and what an aggressive bitch I am in comparison 😁 Doesn't matter who took your bin, you want it back. I'd empty their rubbish out of it on their property, and take my bin.

When I was having some building work done I had a skip on my front drive, and every morning there was a fresh bag of stinking household rubbish thrown on top. By the third day I got rubber gloves, went through the rubbish until I found something with the house-number (it was three houses away) then marched down, stood on the pavement and hurled all three bags so they burst on the drive. A curtain twitched, but no more bags went in my skip.

TenForward82 · 08/11/2018 11:30

What @Honeyroar said. If they are CFs, you need to show them that you won't put up with it. If it was a misunderstanding, no harm done.
