Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

This definitely qualifies as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Does she also wash her hands many, many times a day, uses up boxes of tissues when doing the simplest thing like touching a door handle, buy industrial quantity amounts of disinfectant, etc?

And how dare she call you a 'manky minge' - she's plainly deranged and maybe she needs to be given a wide berth?

Rachel0Greep · 09/11/2018 10:42

I have quite honestly never had such a conversation, as described in the OP, with a friend, nor do I intend to.

bananafish81 · 09/11/2018 10:50

Neither of the following means you have a manky minge

  • Wearing pantliners
  • Not wearing pantliners

The following however does probably mean you likely are a bit manky

  • Not washing daily

If you do the latter then neither of the former matters.

Personal preference for personal circumstances.

Wearing pantliners is not bonkers
Not wearing pantliners is not bonkers

Judging others because their choices are different to yours is bonkers.

@SparklesAndUnicorns if you don’t understand, perhaps RTFT!

Offs! Pantyliners being compared with the hijab, and now wearers being called OCD. Can I call some kind of mumsnet bingo?

People have explained, in graphic and personal detail why they wear liners. Do you think we are lying? Is this actually something we would make up? Are we belittled fools, Victims of mass marketing by the man to think we should be ashamed? No. No and No. If we were ashamed we wouldn't be talking about it here, but at the same we don't want to show our damp patches on our clothes to our families, our colleagues, our kids, in the same way that no ones wants a blood stain on their crotch. If we were lying, we'll personally I would find something more exciting to lie about! I doesn't seem to matter though, certain poster are not listening and are now tying themselves up in knots by comparing liners to the hijab and saying women who wear them have a mental illness! Are we back in the Victorian era.

Some women choose to wear liners. They choose. Why is choice so offensive to some people??

SilentIsla · 09/11/2018 10:56

Washing daily? Shouldn’t that be bathing or showering, daily?

Vitalogy · 09/11/2018 10:59

This definitely qualifies as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Total and utter goad.

Ginburee · 09/11/2018 10:59

SilentIsla you have your judgey pants on today apparently. Not everyone bathes or showers daily you know.

ProfessorMoody · 09/11/2018 10:59

Hahaha! Now wearing pantyliners means we have a mental illness! JFC

I do but it isn't OCD! Grin

bananafish81 · 09/11/2018 11:00

Yes - I'd assumed that was understood by washing as shorthand. But for the avoidance of doubt, for washing please substitute 'showering or bathing' to be clear.

bananafish81 · 09/11/2018 11:03

Although frankly as long as you give your bits a jolly good wash then your bits are clean regardless of whether you shower, bathe, have a pits and bits scrub at the sink, get hosed down in the garden....

GhostCurry · 09/11/2018 11:07

"Anyone who has used disposable nappies for a couple of years created far more land fill than liners"

I disagree. Nappies may be larger than liners but if you're using a liner every day for your entire adult life, you're making a big impact too.

woollyheart · 09/11/2018 11:11

But puzzled because this seems to show that a lot of women use panty liners (scented or not) all the time, but there was another post that said that supermarkets had cut right down on variety of liners/pads available (because women don't use them as much)...

Emmanal · 09/11/2018 11:11

I don't. My midwife also told me not to: they have a plastic backing, it is unhealthy so close to a sensitive area.

dementedpixie · 09/11/2018 11:14

Mine say they are breathable, they are soft on the top and are unscented. They are not unhealthy and prevent damp patches on my jeans

Vitalogy · 09/11/2018 11:15

wollyheart I think that was down to contraception that prevent periods.

woollyheart · 09/11/2018 11:17

@Vitalogy yes, you are right.

But you would think that if there is such a big market for daily liners, there would be a wider choice available (e.g. scented/ unscented / no plastic) etc

AhoyDelBoy · 09/11/2018 12:14

Now that is gross DieBabySharkDie

BertieBotts · 09/11/2018 12:18

Plessis · 09/11/2018 12:20

Lweji · 09/11/2018 12:25

Washing daily? Shouldn’t that be bathing or showering, daily?

That's what bidets are for. Wink

SilentIsla · 09/11/2018 13:31

Do bidets still exist anywhere except France!?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 09/11/2018 13:37

Italy , Japan and Spain have bidets
Other
Countries have pipes or taps

We have nothing which is a bloody shame

AsleepAllDay · 09/11/2018 13:46

I don't shower or bathe daily, I have dry skin that would be really irritated by that! Every other day is what I do and I don't stink!

MarshmallowBaby · 09/11/2018 14:17

Sanitary pad companies will be rubbing their hands in glee at this. What a hilariously unnecessary product.
