AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

Yanbu. I have a friend exactly the same as yours though.

Can I just point out that there is a sanitary protection troll for whom this thread will be providing a ton of light relief. Please be aware of this weirdo when you post intimate details!!

moredoll · 08/11/2018 03:53

What are panty liners?

ShatnersBassoon · 08/11/2018 06:14

What are panty liners?

That's a very good question. If only their name was self-explanatory.

Aren't panty liners mostly plastic? That does not sound breathable, my manky minge needs air thanks. Maybe she has bladder issues and doesn't realise it was abnormal for a 15 year old?

Hisaishi · 08/11/2018 06:41

I personally never use them, maybe very occasionally on the very last day of a period. They make me feel sweaty and gross. To each their own, but if I was producing that much moisture that it was soaking through to my trousers etc, I'd likely assume I had some kind of infection and go to a doctor.

Lweji · 08/11/2018 06:59

Lots of things come out of my vagina , for eg:
Wee

You should see a doctor if you have wee coming out of your vagina. ShockWink

masterandmargarita · 08/11/2018 07:08

Given that lots of women on here say they use them for incontinence, I think you're being a little pedantic

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:14

Is it not a medical issue to have so much discharge that it soaks through your pants and clothes? Genuine question! I completely take on board that it happens but I've never heard of it.

TheSultanofPingu · 08/11/2018 07:19

I began wearing liners a couple of years ago when I hit the menopause.
Some women can find that their discharge gets a little heavier around this time.
The mock amazement used by some on this thread is pathetic. And people STILL suggesting a daily change of underwear!

masterandmargarita · 08/11/2018 07:19

Yes someone on here (who claimed to be a a nurse) said it was a medical issue but another pp said they might not be a nurse

FermatsTheorem · 08/11/2018 07:21

There's actually considerable natural variation in the position of the urethral opening in women - in a small minority of women it genuinely is on the anterior wall of the vagina. Also depending on the size of one's labia, "trickles" of urine (or conversely vaginal discharge or blood) can get channelled into unexpected places. Prior to DC my menstrual blood always ended up staining the pad exactly where you'd expect, but now with flappier labia it seems to collect further forward.

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:23

Well I've learned something then. After years of reading crappy women's mags that seem to cover every conceivable angle of women's health! It sounds like an awful problem to have and I'd definitely be wearing liners.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 08/11/2018 07:23

No infection, my secretions are on the heavy end of normal.

ShatnersBassoon · 08/11/2018 07:23

Is it not a medical issue to have so much discharge that it soaks through your pants and clothes?

Probably not, unless there's a smell, soreness, itchiness etc.

Vaginal dryness is normal too. Nobody boggles at a woman saying they use lubricant.

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:24

fermats it's not strictly coming out of your vag though

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:25

Vaginal dryness is usually caused by a hormonal issue.

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:26

Pressed send too soon... So is normally a medical condition and can be treatable.

ShatnersBassoon · 08/11/2018 07:28

Presumably most excessive secretion is too i.e. during pregnancy, ovulation.

Bloomburger · 08/11/2018 07:28

Does she re wear pants? Can't imagine any reason to do that unless she was!

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:29

No idea.

BertieBotts · 08/11/2018 07:42

I'm sure I don't have a medical issue given that it's been like this every day since about 2-3 years before I started my periods and I've had several gynecological/smear/check ups during that time and they've never said anything was wrong. I'm fairly sure my mother and sister use them at a similar rate judging by our bathroom when I lived at home so I guess it's genetic.

Mine would not usually soak through trousers on a typical day but would be uncomfortable. I would rather not use a bit of old tea towel Confused it would probably work loose and appear out of the bottom of my trouser leg this has never happened with paper towels, nope, nothing to see here

It's worse during pregnancy but bad enough normally. TBH I have quite short cycles and so I'm either ovulating, bleeding or working up to implantation/bleeding again so there is usually something.

OTOH perhaps she's on the pill and has a massive amount of sex every morning and doesn't like dribbling jizz all day. :o

QuackPorridgeBacon · 08/11/2018 07:53

Anyway surely soap & water would prevent "manky minge" better than a liner 🙀

Err... no. Do people still not understand their vaginas? It’s a no soap area.

I don’t wear a pad everyday but I wear one if I am ill as I piss myself a lot when coughing or sneezing. Apart from that I’m ok with what my vagina produces, clean knickers everyday and all is well.

ProfessorMoody · 08/11/2018 07:54

No infection here. Imbalanced hormones and very early menopause.

Perhaps the "eww gross" brigade develop gushing gashes as they get older and have to cope with what we do. That'll be fun.
