There are x3 of us (teenage dd) . I’m not sure exactly how much we are spending as me and dh do bits and bobs separately.

For food shopping together with things like cleaning products etc you would buy in your normal shop, how much are you spending?

I have just added up october receipts £688.63
2 adults 2 kids 9&11
1 dog
Includes all toiletries, cleaning stuff and a few birthday cards/gifts for parties etc
Cook from scratch and quite often have extra people/friends/family for dinner
I really need to cut this down dramatically
Problem is popping in for milk/bread/fruit and coming out 2 bags full later

Shmithecat · 06/11/2018 09:39

Me, dh and 3yo ds. Anything between £100 to £150 a week, including cat litter and wet food (for treats) for 5 cats, but not dry food (that's about another £100 a month). We live in the ME, so the cost of certain things is higher - some imported fruit and veg, and other home comforts.

piscis · 06/11/2018 14:48

Around £100 a week for me DP and DD (toddler), but this includes also her nappies, wipes and alcohol (some beers and a bottle of wine)

ClarabellaCTL · 06/11/2018 16:15

In the region of £500/month for family of 4 (with 2 boys age 4&9) + 2 guinea pigs

ILoveHumanity · 06/11/2018 17:33

50 pw for me and dh and baby

wrenika · 06/11/2018 17:42

We have a budget of around £500 per month for 2 adults. We don't stick to that super strictly, but that's the general figure we aim for.

LadyDeadpool · 06/11/2018 18:46

£65 a week 2 adults, one teen, one 5 year old who appears to be a bottomless pit. 9 rats, 1 dog and a rabbit. Can't afford more. Food comes from Lidl with a 3 monthly order of meat from musclefoods.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 06/11/2018 19:23

wrenika thats high for two adults, not judging but just interested to get to that figure are you including dinners out, alcohol etc?

KitKat1985 · 06/11/2018 19:27

Roughly £100 a week for all grocery shopping for me, DH and 2 DDs (who are both still in nappies) including all toiletries and cleaning products etc.

I'm not including take-aways or meals out in that though.

I'm a bit Shock that some people spend £200-250 a week! That must include a lot of alcohol or similar surely?

heldazz · 06/11/2018 19:29

£100 a week for the two of us. Very impressed by those saying £30-40!

Yorkshiremum17 · 06/11/2018 19:47

2 adults and a 14 year old boy and a cat. I am currently budgeting £80 monthly shop plus £30 a week so that's £200 - £230 per month food and groceries.

It was easily double that plus a bit more a couple of months ago but we were eating rubbish, putting on weight, feeling crap! I started meal planning, cooking from scratch and shopping to a budget, we are now eating a more healthy and varied diet, for far less money.

I can do that in part because I bulk buy things like washing powder and loo rolls from costco, get cat food on special offer and only buy what I need every other time.

Tunnocks34 · 06/11/2018 19:52

OH and I, and then DS1 (4) and DS2 (2) plus a Yorkie.

We spend around £70 a week. Sometimes it will be £100 and other weeks £50 depending on what meat is already in the freezer. No alcohol and no junk food/convienience food.

We only buy lunches for sat and Sunday though as kids get lunch at school/grandparents and I get a school dinner at work. OH always has left overs for lunch as I make a large evening meal.

Tunnocks34 · 06/11/2018 19:54

I haven’t included the any meals out (which we do weekly at least)

biggidybon · 06/11/2018 20:01

2 adults plus cat ... £170 per week + a meal out at weekend

JustAskingForAFriend · 06/11/2018 20:12

500 pm. Two adults. 1 teen. 1 baby, dsd at weekends. No pets. No alcohol,
I waste a fair bit for various reasons. And I stock pile unnecessarily. Which I'm working on and slowly lowering costs

agirlhasnonameX · 06/11/2018 20:14

I want to know how some pp manage to spend under £50 a week with a family that's amazing
£100+ weekly for two adults, two kids and a dog.

candlefloozy · 06/11/2018 20:15

About £100 a week with top ups. Two adults one child

Lifeisabeach09 · 06/11/2018 20:17

Some people spend more on groceries then I spend in rent (£900)!!!!!

I spend approximately £200-250 per month on food, some alcohol, cleaning/laundry products and toiletries). One adult, one child. Not including occasional eat out or takeaway.

Pebblesandfriends · 06/11/2018 20:21

Food costs are getting ridiculous. I used to manage on £350 a month for 4 of us ( two adults and two small kids), last month's food bill was £600 (we had been away at half term) but on average the last 5-6 months it's been about £525).

thighofrelief · 06/11/2018 20:24

Too much, probably £120 pw but that includes coffee pods, soft drinks, all toiletries and household stuff for me and 1 adult son. Other adult son comes and raids fridge all the time though and even takes stuff back to eat with his friends. Looks exceptionally hurt if i say anything Hmm

bluechameleon · 06/11/2018 20:24

2 adults, 4yo and 9mo. Main shop is about £70-80 a week, then usually do a top up mainly of milk and fruit of £10 ish. We don't buy alcohol often and use reusable nappies and wipes so those keep the costs down. Also DH works for the supermarket and so we get 10% discount.

Proseccoagain · 06/11/2018 20:28

Just me and two cats, about £40 a week including wine.

madnessIsay · 06/11/2018 20:31

I’ve never actually counted up mine but we have far too many takeaways so I’m trying to cut that out. I don’t think I could spend £250 a week though, that seems like a lot of food. I’ve just had a Sainsbury’s delivery which was £95 & a top up from M&S of £20 but we won’t have got through it all by next week.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 06/11/2018 20:35

Around €180 per week, two adults, two primary age dc, one cat.

We don't eat meat, have fish 2/3 times a week. Lots of fresh veg and fruit. Includes packed lunches five days a week, lunch for me and DH two or three days, alcohol, household stuff and some toiletries (though not mine to be honest Grin).

BabbysYed · 06/11/2018 20:45

Around £90 per week . Me and DH and 2 large indoor cats.
I know it’s a lot but I also notice how expensive a lot of things are now.
We’re lucky we can afford it right now. I try and buy free range chicken etc , this does push the cost up. As does cat litter, certain fruits, Ecover stuff.
