There are x3 of us (teenage dd) . I’m not sure exactly how much we are spending as me and dh do bits and bobs separately.

For food shopping together with things like cleaning products etc you would buy in your normal shop, how much are you spending?

£30-£50 for 2 adults, breakfast, lunch dinner and all toiletries etc. We don’t eat much meat anymore which has reduced it down from £50 most weeks.

LoveManyTrustfew · 05/11/2018 17:26

I am not actually sure. Blush

DH works away in Switzerland Monday to Thursday at the moment.

DS 17 and I tend to bumble along, he had steak and blue cheese pie with chips and peas. I know the pie was about £5.

I am having a JS TTD mousakka.

So I don't really know what I spend, but I do tend to notice the price of things when I am buying them. If that makes sense.

Detergent etc come from Costco as does wine if it is on a decent offer.

DizzyBeeme · 05/11/2018 17:28

I am a single parent with 4 young children 8 and under- I spend about £80 per week and cook everything from scratch.

OutragedEtc · 05/11/2018 17:38

150-160 a week for family of five and a dog. That’s lunches, dinners, cleaning, everything and we don’t drink alcohol.

Kalimotxo · 05/11/2018 17:39

justanotheruser here's what we have planned this week, cooking from scratch.

  • Cheese and lemon crusted cod on put lentils
  • Lamb tabbouleh
  • Aubergine mozzarella pasta bake
  • Thai green fish curry

Usually only enough leftovers for one the next day, which DH has for lunch.

LoveManyTrustfew · 05/11/2018 17:40

We only tend to cook from scratch when we are all sitting to the table, the teen frequently says OH I am going to... X's house I will eat when I get back.

Brimstonenotfire · 05/11/2018 17:41

4 people, both kids have huge appetites and one is teenage boy.
Includes all meals for me and most lunches for DH but kids get hot school dinner.
Minimal booze
Incl cleaning and toiletries
Eat out one or two meals at weekend (maybe lunch and a dinner)

About £250 pw but can slip up to £300 if we add in dog food and have a fancier weekend meal etc

Strokethefurrywall · 05/11/2018 17:47

Shitabrick!

Threads like this make me wish I lived back in the UK.

I budget US$1400 per month. But I live on an eye wateringly expensive island.

For context, an 8- pack of waitrose own pork sausages cost $6.99...

mindutopia · 05/11/2018 17:54

I would say about £200 a week for 4 of us, including cleaning supplies, toiletries, alcohol, etc. This includes food/drinks for house guests once or twice a month as well, if they come for the weekend it would be even more. I think it’s a lot of money but I truly cannot see how we’d spend less unless we stopped drinking (and we enjoy a drink!). That covers all 3 meals a day and snacks for 3 of 4 of us (dd has snack and lunch at school).

MrsT1983 · 05/11/2018 17:56

2 adults, toddler and 2 cats- we spend anywhere between £70 and £120 a week, including all cleaning products, toiletries, pet food and nappies. I do mostly meal plan and cook from scratch, but the will power seems to fade as the week wears on and we often end up doing an extra shop for “nice” food on a thurs/fri which pushes it up.

WhiteCoyote · 05/11/2018 18:10

Around £60 a week for 2 adults, one toddler and a cat. Majority of food is home cooked but that bill will include one jar of pasta sauce and an own brand pizza as dp is a shit cook and it’s all he thinks he can do when it’s his turn to cook.

I have noticed it’s creeped up from £40 two years ago, toddler eats what we eat so it can’t be that. Nappies and cat food I buy from wherever is the best offer so not always included in shop. Cat is a fussy bastard and only eats Sheba but he deigns to eat own branded cat food if I mix it up with Sheba.

We worked out dp is spending around £90 a month on take out sandwiches and coffee, he’s started making his own and taking out instant coffee in a travel mug now.

flirtygirl · 05/11/2018 18:15

£50 to £70 per week including takeaway. For 2 adults and 1 large tween. This has gone up due to food prices and tin stockpiling. This includes 80% vegetarian, some chicken and no red meat.

I only buy zoflora, bleach, windollene and two large boxes of branded soap powder per year when they go down to a fiver. I probably use half the recommended amount as countless consumer TV shows, all say we use too much soap powder.

We have takeaway weekly but Mcdonalds is cheap for us as only use coupons like the tell us what you think coupon, you get one each time you go in there. Subway is also cheap or Pizzahut medium for £5.

Basics toiletries like San pro, toothpaste and deodorant are included but I get the rest from online shopping or Avon and I have a £25 per month budget for that. We don't buy shampoo as do Co washing.

I use my supermarket.com to search the cheapest prices as i have a choice of supermarkets. The branded products I do buy are only bought on special offer or in bulk from Farmfoods. Farmfoods have coupons online, I use one every time I shop there.

bubbles092 · 05/11/2018 18:17

Family of 3 (myself, my husband and my DS who is 2), around £70 a week, including nappies and baby wipes. Potty training will be commencing shortly so hopefully I will not be buying nappies and babywipes for long!

jarhead123 · 05/11/2018 18:18

Family of 4, kids aged 8&10. Usually around £130 a week. It adds up so fast!

Storm4star · 05/11/2018 18:19

I am really amazed that some people can feed whole families on £50 a week. Food is so expensive now and things like washing powder even more so. I know it’s likely a case of needs must but I think I need to look at what I’m spending as I struggle to keep at £50 for just me and I don’t eat huge amounts. I also don’t include alcohol in that amount.

Justanotheruser01 · 05/11/2018 18:20

@Kalimotxo do you have a spare room for me? ;-)

ileclerc · 05/11/2018 18:20

Two adults two eight year olds and a dog. Kids have packed lunch 3 days a week, DH takes lunch most days.

£90 ish in delivery and probably another £50 or so topping up.

I also spend £20 a month on flavour kits from Simpky Cook.

QueenOfMyWorld · 05/11/2018 18:20

Family of 3 £65 Aldi

blueangel1 · 05/11/2018 18:31

There's two of us (both working from home, so no canteen meals at work) plus a small herd of cats. Mostly shop at Tesco's with top-ups from Aldi and occasionally Sainsbury's if we're over that way. I think we average about £70-80 per week. I'm sure I could push it lower than that, but we're both foodies and like cooking from scratch apart from the odd pizza or takeaway.

DiaryofWimpyMum · 05/11/2018 18:33

Me and 2 Teenage DSs around £150 per week. They eat a lot sometimes up to £200

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 05/11/2018 18:35

4 adults. One of which is my 80 year old mum who doesn’t have a massive appetite and I will often buy expensive things just to tempt her.
I try to keep everything to under £70 a week including cat food x3 and cleaning supplies.
Could do it cheaper but we rarely all eat the same thing or together. I keep the cost down by buying cleaning and laundry stuff in bulk when an offer is on. I don’t drink so no booze but I do buy a lot of bottled water and juice.

Furrydogmum · 05/11/2018 18:40

At least £1000 a month 😣

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/11/2018 18:40

About 250 a week. 2 adults 2 children, a dog, 4 cats.

We spend another 100 a week on eating out!

bumblebee39 · 05/11/2018 18:43

1 pregnant adult and 2 young DCs
Spend £70 ish but that includes formula, nappies etc.

bumblebee39 · 05/11/2018 18:44

That doesn't include eating out... Although "eating out" is occasional Pizza Hut, macdonalds or Nandos so about £60 maximum a month and that's on a very good month otherwise we eat in...
