To think the new Dr Who is totally shite

The first female doctor - such an opportunity yet it’s been wasted - she’s crap.

Completely overacted in every single episode.

was the sonic always used this much? It's constantly out.

That is the public service announcement that women can use power tools too.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/11/2018 09:06

It’s on a par, complexity-wise, with Sarah Jane Adventures... except SJA was much better Grin.

BikeRunSki · 05/11/2018 09:07

We’ve started watching. We didn’t used to. Each to their own.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/11/2018 09:10

They gave her so many companions as they clearly thought she couldn’t carry the show herself. Or they couldn’t tick all the diversity quotas in one person - like this they also managed to squeeze in a white male 🙄

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/11/2018 09:12

DD has been watching it and I encouraged but whenever I look at the screen all I can see is JW massively over- acting - I just donmt “believe” in her character, I know I’m looking at JW.

Kazzyhoward · 05/11/2018 09:13

As a family, we watched the first few, but we've now given up. Really crap story lines and the assistants are really dire. Shame really as we quite like Jodie in other things, but she's just not a convincing Dr Who.

Not just that we're comparing against the old Dr Whos - our teen son, who's never watched any others, very quickly got bored with the politically correct messages - he says they get enough of that in school without watching it for fun too!

NRPDad · 05/11/2018 09:14

Bradley Walsh's character is literally only there for exposition (i.e. to tell the viewers what is going on/ask the questions we're all thinking).

Very poorly written.

Kazzyhoward · 05/11/2018 09:16

over the top shouty woman who can play Northern lass who is from the North and likes to overegg her Northiness, ee thar go our lass

Steph McGovern would have been better for that casting!!

BagelGoesWalking · 05/11/2018 11:16

Surferjet not sure it's even about sexy but maybe charisma? There was something charismatic about Eccelston and Matt Smith. Capaldi was lacking and JW certainly doesn't have a scrap.
Certainly lacking any darkness to the character which a Time Lord would definitely have and more like a children's tv presenter, as others have mentioned.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/11/2018 11:59

bagel Capaldi was certainly not lacking for me Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2018 13:33

For someone who grew up with the distinctly unsexy original set of doctors - most were like eccentric uncles - the new sexy ones (well, Tennant tbh) were all kinds of wrong, even if enjoyable.

OTOH there are undoubtably some males who find the current Doctor a lot sexier than any previous incarnation! Grin

cabingirl · 05/11/2018 13:38

I love it - the episode scripts have been a bit hit or miss for me but the new Doctor is great.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/11/2018 14:43

Maybe the BBC's plan is to migrate this series to BBC3 and rename it 'The JW Adventures'.

Our only hope now is if a proper TV company like Netflix buy it and bring back proper story lines, good actors and some edge (like they did with Star Trek) .

I think its time to end the license fee.

Cutesbabasmummy · 05/11/2018 14:45

I really like it. For the first time since it's been back I actually understand it without DH having to explain it to me.

Fortheloveofscience · 05/11/2018 14:53

I love JW and Doctor Who, but am hating this series so far - last night’s was just atrocious. The pregnant man should have been 30 seconds of ‘whoa there are aliens in a hospital’, not given a 20 minute frankly insulting representation of childbirth tied into Ryan’s angst about his dad that I just don’t care about.

And the anti-matter bit was just cringe. So disappointed, I really hope they give her a decent story soon.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/11/2018 15:00

You can’t compare this version of Dr Who with the SJAs.
SJA was good.

I feel it is like taking RedDwarf. Sacking off all the original characters. Populating the show with the ex cast members of Eastenders, ridding the script of any swearing or references to spicy food, booze, smoking, gambling, body parts of either sex and making it completely politically correct and targeting the age of the audience at somewhere between 5-7.

Then calling it Red Dwarf .

Sometimes when things are so different from the original version and the original version was the better version you would be better calling it something else.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2018 15:34

I can't help feeling the writers are deliberately sabotaging it so they can say "see, told you a female doctor would be shit".

I didn't want a female doctor but I wanted her to be given a fair crack at doing a good job. I can't work out if the things I hate about the doctor are due to JW's interpretation and delivery or just the crap writing and dodgy directing.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2018 15:51

Sometimes when things are so different from the original version and the original version was the better version you would be better calling it something else.

The 'reboot' series were very different from the originals - better for adults, but not so good for kids. The new series is more like the original version.

StormTreader · 05/11/2018 15:54

I thought the Rosa Parks episode was just tedious, to be honest. If I wanted to watch something about landmark history, I'd watch Call The Midwife.

It just all feels preachy and vanilla, and the Doctor has been made to look really weak by saying "we think you need a whole load of companions because you clearly can't cope on your own." She didn't even pick them, they just all decided they were coming and barged in while she waited passively to see if she would be invited in for tea.

I haven't seen the latest one yet but I'm hoping theres rather more "sci-fi" and less "running around an empty hotel like a cheapo fan film".

Vampiratequeen · 05/11/2018 16:03

I'm loving it. Tbh when they announced it would be a female Doctor I was filled with dread, absolutely hated the idea, but I think she is amazing. The Doctor has always been the way she is portraying and I was worried that she wouldn't be able to pull it off and she has. I love the companions as well, well Bradley Walshes character Graham, I think he is fantastic and playing it very well too, there is time for the other two yet, we are only a few episodes in. Nobody likes change, most people hated Matt Smith to start with.

GerdaLovesLiIi · 05/11/2018 16:04

more "sci-fi" and less "running around an empty hotel like a cheapo fan film".

Oh dear.

This was the "cheap, single set, small-cast" episode that every series gets.

There was a lot of running about, because it's cheap. Even the CGI was low budget this week.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/11/2018 16:18

I think I'll prefer next week's — I'm never a massive fan of the spaceship corridor episodes (it's always claustrophobic and lots of running past similar sections!).

There are nice-looking horses next week and we're outside.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2018 17:00

I love the companions as well, well Bradley Walshes character Graham, I think he is fantastic and playing it very well too

He couldn't be more wooden than if he was actually made out of wood! He has one expression, that of a perplexed spaniel.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2018 17:00

I do find it interesting how completely different people's opinions are :)

Blobby10 · 05/11/2018 17:04

I quite like JW's version of the Doctor. Didn't like Capaldi. Didn't like Smith. Dont like the Doctor having so many assistants though. Wont go out of my way to watch the programme but if I'm watching TV and nothing else is on that takes my fancy, its decent enough viewing.Grin
