To think the new Dr Who is totally shite

The first female doctor - such an opportunity yet it’s been wasted - she’s crap.

Completely overacted in every single episode.

She just seems like Dr Who to me - daft, rushing around, saying non-sensical, pseudo-scientific gobbledegook and wearing shit clothes. Just following the tradition

Completely agree, apart from that I love her outfit. It's up there with Tom Baker's stripey scarf and Peter Davison's cricket whites for me.

BagelGoesWalking · 05/11/2018 03:02

Agree with so many comments here. Also tonight's episode all about "it doesn't matter what sort of father you are, just be there" That message was rammed down our throats too.

I didn't think the Rosa Parks ep was much good either. Timeless on Netflix does that kind of history time jump much better.

Lack of humour, all the rushing about, no sense of history from her precious Dr incarnations, lack of humour, metal chewing alien that looked like a Pokemon, short trousered. Disappointing.

Henryismyfriend · 05/11/2018 03:14

Ah see I quite like this series. Got a bit pissed off with Peter Capaldi, he annoyed me. Tennant and Smith were really good. Particularly when John Simm played The Master opposite Tennant.
I do feel though that there's too many companions this time, and that the writers have tried to kind of mix Tennant and Smith in this Doctor, which is coming across poorly because the actors themselves made the character so good.

Drivemecrazy1974 · 05/11/2018 05:14

I like Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, I like the companions, but I HATE the PC storylines. They're getting really tedious. Actually, I said to my husband the other evening that some of the episodes almost feel as if you're watching a 'special' that they've done for Children in Need or Comic Relief. It just doesn't feel 'right' if you know what I mean.
I hope they either change the writer or somebody higher up tells them stop with all the political correctness nonsense.

JillianHoltzmann · 05/11/2018 05:24

Every episode has to have a "message"- although thats not new to doctor who, they've been very big on morals throughout the newer series', it feels very forced these days.
Plus whether it's a hatred of my own self-image projected back at me or not, I hate Ryan, I think his dyspraxia comes across as contrived and comical, and the man who plays him is absolutely terrible- or maybe his accent just makes him sound monotonous and emotionless?

The doctor herself is suddenly a hero in every sense. No fatal flaws, no attitude, just friendliness. In fact, she's so friendly it's almost offensive. And the show itself is so badly written, she hasn't had any difficult decisions at all, just angsty scenes. Misplaced angst.
I like the doctor, I think with better writing she could be good. I don't like her posse.

JillianHoltzmann · 05/11/2018 05:27

And just to add, I agree with pp that something doesn't feel right. It's like Doctor Who if you took the life spark out of it. There used to be something magical, but now it's gone.
And it's a lot more like The Sarah-Jane Adventures than it needs to be!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 05/11/2018 05:29

Yep, rubbish. So wanted to love it but we gave up 2 episodes ago.

The4thSandersonSister · 05/11/2018 05:36

The Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker/Peter Davidson years were the Golden Years for me and TBH Tom Baker will always be THE Doctor irrespective of regenerations. The sets might have been wobbly, but there was a grittiness, charm and whimsy about those years.

OrdinaryGirl · 05/11/2018 06:19

I think Whittaker is terrific. The writing is atrocious. I feel cross for her.

GraceMarks · 05/11/2018 06:47

It's very frustrating. I feel like she's going to be used to argue why a woman in the role is all wrong, even though I do think JW herself is fine and it's the scripts that are the problem. Bit like Thatcher - well, we gave you ladies a chance and look what happened! One woman is all women in these situations of course...

ShotsFired · 05/11/2018 06:52

It all seems like the casting spec was:

"over the top shouty woman who can play Northern lass who is from the North and likes to overegg her Northiness, ee thar go our lass"

I have only see one episode and that was like watching a parody skit.

Apart from all the preachiness etc as pp say. That Rosa Parks storyline was risible.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2018 07:02

Olivia Coleman is good in everything.

I think she would have struggled to be good in this.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2018 07:02

I'm putting the blame squarely at the feet of the writers.

surferjet · 05/11/2018 07:17

I’m going to completely lower the tone - but it’s missing someone ‘sexy’
All the doctors since Christopher Eccleston have had a certain sex appeal ( Matt Smith was especially phwoar )
There’s absolutely no one to drool over.
But I suppose that’s another pc box ticked. No one overly sexy / good looking.

Theworldisfullofgs · 05/11/2018 07:18

I think the scripts are a bit hit and miss. Yesterday was Boring. A bit A Team

Mangoo · 05/11/2018 07:22

I gave up watching when David Tennant left, he was a brilliant Doctor. I've grown an appreciation for him since his Dr Who days. Broadchurch was brilliant.

I've not watched any of the new ones. The trailers make me cringe alone.

Did anyone watch Torchwood when that was on? I wouldn't mind a decent series of that again. Dr Who theme but aimed at an older audience.

ShotsFired · 05/11/2018 07:29

God, NO MORE Olivia Colman PLEASE!

She was nice enough a few years back but suddenly she is plastered across everything. I'm so bored of seeing her face and hearing her voice. Slightly dreading the new Crown series because of her.

(Yes I am sure she is gutted about my opinion!)

mummymeister · 05/11/2018 07:37

Its sunday evening filler drivel. the bbc commissioned the series and when they saw it even they knew and agreed with it and that is why it moved from Saturday night peak against the xfactor and BGT to sunday evening ironing the school clothes spot.

The scripts are just piss poor. The bbc need to put an end to this and mothball DW for another 20 years and then revive.

if you don't believe how far its fallen just watch some of the Chris Ecclestone episodes. Great scripts, different stories, brilliant acting.

I would sooner watch Londons Burning than this.

headinhands · 05/11/2018 07:43

I'm loving it. Haven't watched the last 2 series. She's great. 👍🏼

iklboo · 05/11/2018 07:45

DP would also like to congratulate the pilot's fictional mother for managing to have two children about 25 years apart

There's 21 years between BIL1 & BIL3. Grin

SharedLife · 05/11/2018 07:52

I love her Doctor! 10-year-old DS said he feels like the Doctor is back (i think Capaldi appealed to adults more than children)

The good thing about having so many Doctors over the years is there's one for everyone. On tge other hand they all have to be different enough that they're each interesting in their own way, so i suppose its not likely that they will all appeal to everyone.

WhoWants2Know · 05/11/2018 07:52

Hey now, no picking on Donna Noble.

InkyGrail · 05/11/2018 07:53

I like her so far but she's not been given a chance to really show any emotional depth. With Tennant and to a certain extent the others in the new incarnation of the series it did sometimes get a bit OTT with constant handwringing and 'serious' intense emotional scenes. But now they've gone a bit too far the other way and just tried to channel 'whacky and fun' rather than give it balance. Even the supposed serious / 'deeper' aspects of the plotlines so far have mostly felt rushed and not at all explored.

Also was the sonic always used this much? It's constantly out. That's annoying too.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/11/2018 08:01

I turned round during last night's episode to Bradley Walsh delivering his lines and looking like he is about to kill his agent

Dr Who had a somewhat cult status. But it now is so dumbed down and preachy.

And what is with the cast of Coronation Street and Hollyoaks are they the only northern actors?

GerdaLovesLiIi · 05/11/2018 09:01

DP would also like to congratulate the pilot's fictional mother for managing to have two children about 25 years apart

It's not that difficult. SmallSon and BigSon are 21 years apart. But say thanks to your DP for me.
