To think trash TV should be bloody banned!

Yes Facebook, I CAN believe what happened on DTTB last night, this is the third ‘can you believe he spent £10,000 on a piss up stag do and then made his fiancé wear a burlap sack down the isle’ article you’ve popped up on my news feed (randomly) in the past few weeks and YES I can believe it!

Why? Because this utter trash tv is just one big race to the bottom! That’s why. DDTB, Love Island, Big Brother....pretty much every reality show going is just a push from the TV channels to find ever more ridiculous, self absorbed, idiots who want fame and attention. Meanwhile we’re supposed to sit at home drinking supermarket Chardonnay and getting ‘pulled in’ by the concept that someone can ‘LOVE’ someone else after 2 days together, no real emotional involvement but a rompy snog in the hot tub? FFS!

And we the viewers are ‘fumming’ after the heavily pregnant fiancé is made to sky dive into her wedding by AWFUL fiancé using a bed sheet as a parachute because he spent the entire budget on his stag do in Budapest.
We’re not fuming though are we- we’re bloody loving it and tuning in again next week to see what borderline abusive idea the next idiot will inflict on his bride to be.

It’s trashing society and lowering standards for everyone - I’d rather watch paint dry!

I haven't seen any of those things on TV - mainly because there are vast numbers of other channels we can watch by clicking a button on the remote control. Biscuit

@Allerg I don’t watch them either but unfortunately some of us can’t escape them due to working in a female dominated office OBSESSED with them

You do realise different people like different things? And that watching anything is not compulsory? You do seem to know a lot of details for someone that would rather watch paint dry.

Starlight345 · 04/11/2018 09:07

Yes you are right we should have one channel watching exactly what the government thinks is good for us . 🙄

I love my trashy tv thank you.

Bezalelle · 04/11/2018 09:08

They're designed to keep us occupied while society burns to the ground around us.

Bread and circuses!

louderthan · 04/11/2018 09:08

I have no time for cultural snobbery.

bookmum08 · 04/11/2018 09:10

Other programmes are available...
And your response to those who talk about it - "I don't watch that. I think it's boring".

MrsStrowman · 04/11/2018 09:10

I have an incredibly high pressure, stressful, emotionally and psychologically difficult job and am now at a senior level which means the buck really stops with me and my decisions hugely impact on people's lives, day in day out. I love some trash TV, it helps me switch off from the horrors of the day. Not everyone who watches it buys in to it, I don't watch any soaps at all, I do watch some real housewives though, I also read often and have other hobbies, why is it worth getting het up over?

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 04/11/2018 09:12

I just don't have channel TV at all now. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime, DVDs etc. And if anyone at work asks me if I'm watching Celebrity Loves Cooking Islands Whatsit show I say no.

But then I don't have anyone in the house who wants to watch whatever sport you get on the cable channels as well which makes it easier to not have it.

Neshoma · 04/11/2018 09:12

whats DDTB?

JacquesHammer · 04/11/2018 09:13

Please do tell your colleagues a list of programmes you deem suitable for their viewing pleasure.

Please.

Then report back

HopeGarden · 04/11/2018 09:14

Did the heavily pregnant fiancée really sky dive into a wedding?
That sounds very implausible.

Kpo58 · 04/11/2018 09:15

They should only have 1 channel for TV trash and one for Soaps. It's so hard to find anything decent on in the evenings when is all trash, depressing dramas, about the Nazis and TV about cops.

Where is the genuine comedy, light hearted TV dramas and educational programs that broaden your horizons?

NotACleverName · 04/11/2018 09:15

Turn your TV off and watch paint dry then? I don't understand what you're complaining about. It's not obligatory to watch "trash" TV.

Kpo58 · 04/11/2018 09:16

whats DDTB?

Don't tell the Bride

Funkyslippers · 04/11/2018 09:18

Don't tell the Bride No wonder I was confused!

AamdC · 04/11/2018 09:19

I dont watch those kind of programmes either but each tp their own many people wpuld say soap operas were also trash tv i guess the thing is watch what you want and dont turn on stuff you think is trashy Hmm

MrDonut · 04/11/2018 09:22

Shouldn’t that be DTTB then?

I have no idea what the OP is about as I don’t really watch reality TV except Bake Off and American Survivor.

It sounds boring to listen to it every lunchtime.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 04/11/2018 09:22

Why do you get to decide what's suitable for people to watch? Cultural snobbery at its worse .

Seniorschoolmum · 04/11/2018 09:23

Why are you wasting your life watching that drivel?

You could find something more interesting to do....

CoughLaughFart · 04/11/2018 09:24

I can’t stand Love Island and the like. Half of my office were obsessed by it, so I was subjected to my fair share of chatter about it. I just made a joke of how uninterested I was, saying ‘Don’t care’ in response to any comment about it. If people are that bored let them watch it - I don’t have to.

LiveatCityHall · 04/11/2018 09:26

Can I ask what's wrong with supermarket chardonnay? Where do you get yours from then?

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 09:26

Working in an office jumps out as the problem here.

I mostly have worked in majority male offices where it was nearly always chat about sodding football.

whiskeysourpuss · 04/11/2018 09:28

YABU because then I'd have to do something other than plonk my arse on the sofa with a glass of wine & watch 90 Day Fiance on my child free Wednesday nights... & yes I do bore the pants off my work colleagues about it in the same way that they bore the pants off me talking about sports/car shows/whatever shite they watch... but as soon as a new series of Homeland starts we're all on the same page so it all evens out.
