To think trash TV should be bloody banned!

Yes Facebook, I CAN believe what happened on DTTB last night, this is the third ‘can you believe he spent £10,000 on a piss up stag do and then made his fiancé wear a burlap sack down the isle’ article you’ve popped up on my news feed (randomly) in the past few weeks and YES I can believe it!

Why? Because this utter trash tv is just one big race to the bottom! That’s why. DDTB, Love Island, Big Brother....pretty much every reality show going is just a push from the TV channels to find ever more ridiculous, self absorbed, idiots who want fame and attention. Meanwhile we’re supposed to sit at home drinking supermarket Chardonnay and getting ‘pulled in’ by the concept that someone can ‘LOVE’ someone else after 2 days together, no real emotional involvement but a rompy snog in the hot tub? FFS!

And we the viewers are ‘fumming’ after the heavily pregnant fiancé is made to sky dive into her wedding by AWFUL fiancé using a bed sheet as a parachute because he spent the entire budget on his stag do in Budapest.
We’re not fuming though are we- we’re bloody loving it and tuning in again next week to see what borderline abusive idea the next idiot will inflict on his bride to be.

It’s trashing society and lowering standards for everyone - I’d rather watch paint dry!

I think calling for things to be banned should be banned

WorraLiberty · 04/11/2018 15:03

@Allerg I don’t watch them either but unfortunately some of us can’t escape them due to working in a female dominated office OBSESSED with them

Absolute rubbish

Just ignore the conversation like an adult

I hope you get banned from doing whatever you enjoy. And then banned from doing whatever you do instead of the first thing you got banned from doing.

WorraLiberty · 04/11/2018 15:40

Somerford, you've blown my mind Grin

There is nothing wrong with trash TV except for the fact there is just way too bloody much of it. I count as trash TV- reality shows, soaps, chatter TV like This Morning or The One Show, daytime quiz shows where nobody ever really wins anything and pseudo competition TV like I'm a Celebrity... that exist mostly to make money from phone in voting.

There should be a bit of something for every taste but the vast majority falls into the above categories. I'm not a cultural snob as I do enjoy a few bits and pieces of these shows myself but there is too much pandering to the lowest common denominator. I suspect though that is mostly because it's cheap to make.

tillytrotter21 · 04/11/2018 21:54

I don't watch any of these programmes or Strictly Come Baking in the Jungle type either but I cannot understand how they get so much coverage in the newspapers etc. How can the people who expose themselves to this ridicule, most seem to watch for a laugh, be called 'reality stars', they're nobodies really yet if one says the name's not familiar others get very sniffy. Inverted snobbery is far worse than genuine snobbery, they're quite happy to sneer at me for not knowing some idiot with fluorescent teeth but if I comment on their ignorance of, say, Mikhail Baryshnikov then I'm a snob!

BackInRed · 04/11/2018 21:55

YANBU. I loathe reality TV.

museumum · 04/11/2018 21:58

I don’t watch any of that. There are so many options now. Between Netflix and iplayer I think tv has never been better.

InertPotato · 04/11/2018 21:58

I absolutely adore Come Dine with Me.
