AIBU?
Aibu to put a complaint into Hermes about delivery driver ?
Foamybanana93 · 02/11/2018 19:40
So basically had a few parcels out for delivery today with Hermes, delivery slot between 3-6, went upstairs to do some cleaning, sort out some clothes etc, got to 5:45 and thought it was strange still hadn’t had the parcels delivered, checked my emails to see the parcels had been delivered, the driver let himself into my porch and left the parcels in there, he never rang the doorbell, never knocked, just let himself in my house through the front door !
Aibu to put a complaint into my Hermes about this ? I’m actually furious about this !
CandyCreeper · 02/11/2018 19:44
apparently this is normal (it comes up alot) but im with you i think its rude not to knock!
PurpleFlower1983 · 02/11/2018 19:44
I would consider a porch a ‘safe place’ if it had been left unlocked.
InspectorIkmen · 02/11/2018 19:45
Huh? Why is your front door open for anyone to enter?
shakethatass · 02/11/2018 19:47
I'm guessing it was unlocked?
Maybe he knocked and you didn't hear him
Yabu
LunaAzul · 02/11/2018 19:47
If you don’t want people entering then don’t leave your door unlocked. If the delivery person got in, anyone can.
BlueBug45 · 02/11/2018 19:47
@InspectorIkem lots of people who have porches don't lock the first door if they are in.
IceRebel · 02/11/2018 19:47
Not ideal of him but at least the parcels have been delivered and were placed in a safe place. I'm not sure complaining to Hermes is the best idea, as the couriers are only get paid for each parcel delivered.
MereDintofPandiculation · 02/11/2018 19:48
Usually a porch is considered to be "outside".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porch
If he only came into the porch he hasn't let himself into your house.
YANBU to fee annoyed that he didn't knock. YABU to complain that he let himself into your house because he didn't (or if he did, it was into a hallway not into a porch)
Foamybanana93 · 02/11/2018 19:50
Does everyone lock their front doors in the middle of the afternoon ? Suppose I should have locked the front door but don’t feel the need to where I live it’s not exactly a crime ridden area
PenCreed · 02/11/2018 19:50
Hermes are shit and don't respond to complaints with anything useful. They've had a parcel of mine since last Thursday, apparently had a problem with delivering it and haven't tried again since (it was coming to work). Fortunately, it was from John Lewis who refunded me when it reached a week and so I've re-bought to have delivered to the house. The Hermes driver who does my house has a tendency to chuck things over the back fence if they don't fit through the letter box, but at least I get them! Useless shower.
Norma27 · 02/11/2018 19:52
I purposely leave my porch unlocked if I know I am getting parcels. My postman will try the porch door first before knocking which suits me. Not sure if Hermes etc knock first or not but if porch door unlocked then I think ok to try it. Actual front door wouldn’t be unlocked tho.
SawnUpLooRoll · 02/11/2018 19:53
Important question: Did he shit in your toilet as well? Best go check!
Foamybanana93 · 02/11/2018 19:55
Hahaha no he didn’t shit in my toilet I did check as the toilet door was open at the front of the house where he’d left my parcels
margotsdevil · 02/11/2018 19:59
If your parcels have actually arrived complaining will be a total waste of time since they don't actually care/deal with a complaint about parcels going missing - sorry!
Parttimewasteoftime · 02/11/2018 20:00
They left my DS Birthday gift in his playhouse in my garden! No card course he saw the big toy shaped parcel he's not stupid so 😡
Santaisgettingbusy · 02/11/2018 20:05
Ours delivers my stuff to a neighbour without knocking. I have watched him from the window!! Odd!!
Oysterbabe · 02/11/2018 20:10
I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving a parcel in the porch. Don't most people open the porch to knock on the actual front door?
Orlande · 02/11/2018 20:10
You left the porch door unlocked and the parcel was delivered so it so fine.
Foamybanana93 · 02/11/2018 20:11
I don’t even know if it’s an actual porch, he opened the front door and then there is just a normal internal door is that classed as a porch is think it is
Purpleartichoke · 02/11/2018 20:15
We get deliveries several times a week and I work from home. They hardly ever bother knocking or ringing the bell. It’s the main reason I bought a motion activated camera doorbell. I get a notice on my phone every time someone drops a package on the steps.
RayRayBidet · 02/11/2018 20:18
I always lock the door, no matter what time of day it is. It was drummed into me as a child
BG2015 · 02/11/2018 20:24
I've had 2 deliveries from Hermes this week and both were left in our bin store cupboard.
First I knew about it was a text. I've been in for both deliveries, don't think they even knocked.
Gardai · 02/11/2018 20:25
Your lucky
Mine threw the parcel over my (tall) gate where it landed in a soggy mess on the bins. Hate Hermes.
