To believe that fireworks shouldn’t be available to the general public?

Fireworks at this time of night!!!

I’m partial to a sparkler don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t agree with fireworks being readily available for joe public. Particularly when people let them off after 11pm!

I’m not saying get rid of them all together but make it stricter so they’re only let off in safe environments by people who’ve had adequate training who then clean everything up and it’s all done and dusted before 11pm.

Am I getting old??

The stories seem to get worse every year, those babies on the bus could have been killed or at least maimed for life without the quick reaction of their mother. It's quite clear they are a danger and should not be sold to the public, especially in a time of growing unrest and antisocial behaviour.

We’ve just been informed by the neighbour of the livery yard where we keep DD’s horse that he’s having another firework party this weekend. He already had one last weekend, but he ‘doesn’t care what we say’, he’s having another one on Saturday.

His garden backs right on to the barn and paddock where 15 horses are kept.

Plus a barn full of straw and hay

You’re not actually supposed to let off fireworks near buildings and fields where livestock or horses are kept but he ‘doesn’t care’ he can do what he likes and we should stop ‘whingeing’ about it

I spent last Saturday morning picking up spent fireworks out of the paddock as he wasn’t going to bother

DD’s horse was OK last weekend, but several of the others weren’t, so we all have to decide whether to keep them in, turn them out into a field a bit further away or move them completely.

Honestly, the bloke is such a selfish twat - although, at least he warned us this time, last weekend he didn’t bother.

Bump for this if it’s been shared already...

Tinkle - that is SO utterly disgusting. How could he just not care Sad.

Is there nothing you could do? Would it be worth asking the RSPCA or police to have a word with him in advance?

AGHHHH · 07/11/2018 15:39

Why don't you stand by with buckets of water and douse all his fireworks? Knob.

HelenaDove · 07/11/2018 15:55

Tinkle.................what a selfish arrogant fucking turd he is.

Tinklewinkle · 07/11/2018 16:12

The yard owner called the police last weekend but they wouldn’t come out

We’ve got another field much further away from the yard behind a load of trees so we’ll probably turn them all out in there - but it’s cold and wet and dark at the moment, I want her tucked up in bed.

There’s always a debate about what to do with them - are they safer in or out? If she freaks out when she’s in she could hurt herself, but then I’ve heard stories of horses exhausting themselves because they’re frightened outside.

DD’s horse is pretty bombproof. She’s fine with most things (except white flower pots Hmm) and was fine last weekend, but others weren’t and they shouldn’t be subjected to it.

The bloke is an utter dickhead

Henryismyfriend · 07/11/2018 16:13

@TwinkleWinkle

Sadly a common story, if you have the means to move them to another field far enough away to not be spooked I'd go with that option. Luckily my lad is pretty calm about it all, don't suppose he would be if the hay barn went up!
It's ridiculous that you should have to move them, a week after bonfire night.
I'd report to the council, it is illegal but trying to get anyone to take it seriously is really hard.

DamsonGin · 07/11/2018 16:35

That's really bad, Twinkle, would it be with calling again, I think there's so much harmful stuff going on round people that the police and council just don't have the resource for bonfire night itself but for the weekend coming they might, especially if you state the distress it caused already. Failing that I will wish for rain for you.

LakieLady · 07/11/2018 16:38

Setting off fireworks in the street is illegal now.

It's been illegal since the Explosives Act 1875,

Gingaaarghpussy · 07/11/2018 17:02

This year has been a better year for fireworks Hmm there was an organised display in our local park, so I think a lot of people didn't both this year. I'm lucky that neither my cat or my dog are bothered.
What I found interesting, was looking at our local fire and rescue website. The amount of call outs that turned out to be 'controlled burning' on the weekend was astonishing to me. I mean, I understand fire people responding, it just seems blindingly obvious, to me, that if a neighbour has a bonfire on the go, at this time of year, then clearly there is a proper reason for it and your a grump for calling unneccessarily.

LakieLady · 07/11/2018 17:10

The poor lady who got a rocket thrown through her window. That must have been terrifying, and so dangerous.

If it was, as the police said, a category 2 firework, that's a controlled firework that can only legally be supplied to professional pyrotechnicians. So it was either stolen, or a supplier is selling without checking that the buyer is authorised, or an authorised person is selling on to the public. Which is really alarming imo.

Tinkle, the guy who lives near the livery yard sounds like a complete shit. I hope it pisses with rain, and that he catches pneumonia.

tinstar · 07/11/2018 19:05

Rockets going off over the road. It's the 7 November, mid week. Just why for goodness sake?

SillySallySingsSongs · 07/11/2018 19:29

@tinstar It is Diwali

Shitlandpony · 07/11/2018 19:50

That’s 14 days for us non stop

AvoidingDM · 07/11/2018 19:54

I read up on Categories the other day Cat 2 is garden fireworks with either a 5 or 8m radius. Cat 3 are also available to public 25m radius Cat4 is display fireworks.

2&3 must be fused
4 doesnt need to be - often require a launcher.

tinstar · 07/11/2018 21:03

It is Diwali. Just great. My dog is behind the sofa quaking again. Angry

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/11/2018 21:36

Bloody hell.

Much worse than on any of the Guy Fawkes nights.

SummerGems · 07/11/2018 21:42

Far worse out here tonight than any other night. To the extent that someone called the police because they turned up round the back. Don’t know what was said or done but even my dog who is generally ok couldn’t be let out because of how loud they were.

Willofthesimpletons · 07/11/2018 21:48

Insanely loud fireworks here tonight as well. The house shook. I hate them. They should definitely be banned.

Willofthesimpletons · 07/11/2018 21:48

Ollivander84 · 07/11/2018 22:14

The rocket came through my window, it was done deliberately and probably by kids. Landed next to me and I ran the few steps to the living room door (apartments so all fire doors) and as I slammed the door it exploded
I feel like my house has been violated and I don't dare open any windows

HelenaDove · 07/11/2018 23:12

Oliivander what happened to you is a perfect example of why selling these to the general public should be banned.

Because a lot of the general public are not only too stupid but also too sadistic to be trusted with these explosives.

mydogisthebest · 08/11/2018 09:17

Gingaaarghpussy, I am glad it has been a better year for fireworks where you live.

It certainly hasn't where I do. We have had fireworks every single night since 27th October. Ok some nights only a few but my dog still isn't happy whether it's 2 or 22.

Me and DH have had to make sure one of us is home with our dog from about 3pm (that's the time they have started some days)

Gingaaarghpussy · 08/11/2018 10:00

I think the idiots who let off fireworks at random times this year, are lying low because there is a bigger police presence. We've had a lot of problems with vandalism and anti-social behaviour. Otherwise I believe we would still be hearing random fireworks for the entire fortnight.
I think it should only be organised displays because at least then you can prepare. Because people don't seem to be able to let neighbours know.
