To believe that fireworks shouldn’t be available to the general public?

Fireworks at this time of night!!!

I’m partial to a sparkler don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t agree with fireworks being readily available for joe public. Particularly when people let them off after 11pm!

I’m not saying get rid of them all together but make it stricter so they’re only let off in safe environments by people who’ve had adequate training who then clean everything up and it’s all done and dusted before 11pm.

Am I getting old??

Sounds fabulous Ginger. My 2 year old rescue is behind the sofa again this evening Angry

FatNoMorePat · 05/11/2018 19:46

Hope everyone’s having a relatively stress free night, batten down the hatches everyone!

We took DC’s to a display and we’re all suitably fireworked out. Had to throw our clothes straight into the wash they absolutely stink from the bonfire Grin

5th November only
No cracking ear-splitting banging fireworks
Not high in the sky
Small and quiet fireworks only for private sale (you will not stop cruelty by ppl to animals)
You can stop animal and ppl distress. Responsiblility for the type of fireworks for private sales will change the nature of private displays, forcing them to be more acceptable and not terrifying for anyone.

No, big displays should not have those either, unless they are very high in the sky and far enough away to not cause distress.

Shriek · 05/11/2018 20:18

We should not allow ourselves to knowingly cause harm. PPs citing cars, etc , are simply not like for like examples. Cars don't have immediate terrifying impact on ppl and animals, like an exploding firework does

Gingerlover2 · 05/11/2018 20:18

Same here tinstar.. she's in a bit of a state as they've been going off before dark, and the big booms have started, even with the TV on loud, she can still here them because they have this amazing ability to pick up on vibrations. Oh well I hope it stops after tomorrow

Ha Ha FatNoMorePat I LOVE the smell of bonfire, and of log fires ..so evocative. I haven't lit my logburner yet this year ...saving it for the cold weather

MemoryOfSleep · 05/11/2018 20:41

Totally agree with you. Noise pollution, light pollution, air pollution. Harmful to wildlife and stressful to most animals, fire starting, dangerous things.

Grumble, grumble...

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6357983/Rescue-dog-dies-heart-attack-trying-escape-fireworks.html

Another sad story of a dog dying because of fireworks. Winston was in a rescue centre. They let the dogs out of their kennels for a run at midnight thinking the fireworks had ended (as they should have). There were then more fireworks and Winston tried to crawl into a small space in panic. He had a heart attack and died.

tinstar · 06/11/2018 14:45

So reports on the BBC news website of fireworks being thrown at police and firemen; the fire in Nottingham is suspected to have been the result of firework arson; a homeless veteran had a lit firework put in his pocket etc etc

Is that not enough for people who don't care about the impact on animals to think twice about whether fireworks should be on sale to the general public?

SayNoToCarrots · 06/11/2018 18:45

firework thrown through bus window into double pram

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 06/11/2018 18:52

It’s been going on all week here, last night was the worst. It must have been terrifying for animals and young children who didn’t understand. It was literally like WW3 had kicked off in my area, it was so loud.

There has only been 2 or 3 organised events near me, the rest of the noise is local residents taking the piss.

My cats were terrified, one hid under the bed the entire night.

Heard a few going off tonight as well. Silent ones would be amazing.

Karrwomannghia · 06/11/2018 18:58

That story about the firework on the bus is horrendous. Clearly some people simply can’t be trusted to make sensible judgements for themselves when it comes to fireworks and so the law has to make it for them.

Shitlandpony · 06/11/2018 19:32

More being set off near me tonight, sick of it.

Henryismyfriend · 06/11/2018 19:43

I worked a night shift last night. They didn't stop at midnight by any stretch, and I also saw groups of youths carrying them around. Work is near local fire station, they were out most of the night, returned around 3am, back out at 4am.
Videos of people letting them off next to stables and farms all over my Facebook, which is just bloody dangerous without taking account of the poor animals. I don't think a farmer deserves for his straw/hay and barns to go up from a stray firework because someone wants to have fun. And posting responses on Facebook to those videos like "Fuck your horses I'm having fun"
I was for public displays only but felt like others really would lose out but after the sheer ignorance and arrogance and plain idiocy of what I saw last night they need banning because quite frankly people are too far up their own arses shouting about their fucking rights to give a shit what they are destroying.

DamsonGin · 06/11/2018 19:46

That Manchester bus report is awful!

DamsonGin · 06/11/2018 19:59

As is that, Henryismyfriend. Nothing ever makes letting them off near animals or humans on purpose okay.

Henryismyfriend · 06/11/2018 20:07

@DamsonGin

Also reports of an ambulance transporting a seriously ill patient targeted.
If people are not going to use them properly, and the incidents of using them irresponsibly and to intentionally cause harm seem to be rising, as well as the accidents with them that have always happened, it's time to take some action. Laws that already exist clearly are not working.

Mightybanhammer · 06/11/2018 20:22

Not unreasonable. I do love a proper display, but I hate the random bangs, as do my animals. I saw one poor horse gallloped himself to death in fear and panic . Sad

Equally intrusive though is trick or treating. I absolutely hate it. Such a nuisance and invasion off privacy.

mydogisthebest · 06/11/2018 20:48

We have had fireworks again tonight. It's the 6th for goodness sake so why exactly are people letting them off?

Me and DH were meant to be going out to something quite important but we couldn't as we could not leave our dog. I am sick of it

LostontheWestway · 06/11/2018 21:04

Another night comforting my trembling dog as my neighbour let a load off tonight

WickedGoodDoge · 06/11/2018 21:13

The fireworks started here at 10:30PM on 22 October. It’s been pretty much every night since then, including tonight. Yesterday I had my dog out in the fields at 2:00PM when someone started setting fireworks off. 2:00PM. I managed to grab my dog just before he bolted and got him on lead but then couldn’t get him back down the hill to the car because he completely froze. It took ages for him to settle, then last night he barked so much he threw up because the house at the back of us did a massive display (densely populated estate covered with the leftovers this morning).

Where I grew up it was illegal for individuals to set off fireworks and I’ve never got my head around it here, but it’s definitely getting worse and I’m fed up of it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/11/2018 21:16

Quiet round us.

That poor dog that was killed by the fireworks, not to mention all the horses and sheep and other animals.

Time for a ban.

DamsonGin · 06/11/2018 22:10

Entirely agree, Henryismyfriend

Shitlandpony · 06/11/2018 23:19

Just seen on FB that the round table is doing a Christmas spectacular of fireworks on the 25th of November right near me.
So that’s going to be more again , not really going to get a break here until after new year.
Lots of dogs missing near me still Sad

jemihap · 07/11/2018 05:16

They could at least ban the stupidly loud air bomb type fireworks, there's no need for them at all.
