is cute and would be nice if my friend had a boy or a girl in the Spring?

I love Bobbie for a girl.

OoohAyyye · 01/11/2018 16:16

Bobbie for a girl is lovely.

customerservicenightmare · 01/11/2018 16:16

I think it's pretty unisex?

Also do you prefer the spelling Bobby or Bobbie?

Would the gender of child make any difficult to the way you'd spell it?

Yes, a girl called Bobbie I think would be nice.

Your friend? Weird.

HellenaHandbasket · 01/11/2018 16:17

Short for Roberta?

customerservicenightmare · 01/11/2018 16:18

She was thinking Bobbie not short for anything. OTOH, Roberta with a NN might be more versatile.

Love your username, BTW.

Roberta I think is the better choice and then she can decide what to go by as an adult. Bobbie is cute but maybe not what you want as an adult in a professional setting.

ChampagneCommunist · 01/11/2018 16:32

Not good for a boy; I am a lawyer and recently did a change of name for a Bobbie to Robert.

He'd been teased for having a girly name all his life and came to me at 18 to change it.

LivLemler · 01/11/2018 16:55

Bobby short for Robert for a boy.

Bobbie short for Roberta for a girl.

Love both.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/11/2018 16:56

Can’t stand Bob. That would worry me.

MeteorMedow · 01/11/2018 17:07

Cute nicknames for longer traditional names are super cute but only when used as a nickname! I don’t get the fascination with just calling the child the nickname on the birth certificate. I have a ‘nickname’ as a name and it sucks! Always has done especially at school as teachers would write my ‘full name’ on stuff and I’d get upset
“Like no that’s not actually my name - my name is just ‘nickname’”

Fibbertigibbet · 01/11/2018 17:10

I have a friend who is a Bobbie (short for Robyn). I think it's lovely.

HoraceWimpIsThisYourLife · 01/11/2018 17:10

I’ve known a few boy Bobbies and they’ve all been shits.

OneStepSideways · 01/11/2018 17:13

I think it sounds like a pets name. I know lots of dogs called Bobbie! Also makes me think of bobbles, bubbles and bobbing bunny tails, cute for a baby but not so cute when he/she is grown up.

Bezalelle · 01/11/2018 17:13

Only in the Spring?

Trappedin · 01/11/2018 17:14

It is a dogs name to me, not a human.

EdwardScissorskills · 01/11/2018 17:17

Bobbie for a girl; Bobby for a boy.

I don't like Bobby!

catsandogs · 01/11/2018 17:21

My last dog male was called Bobbie (rescue dog - not my choice 😂)

StoorieHoose · 01/11/2018 17:23

Just don’t spell it Boabie if you are in Scotland

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 17:25

"Bobbie" is slang for a shit where I come from.

Armadillostoes · 01/11/2018 17:26

In my part of the UK it's an alternative for poo. Not a problem unless she relocates though.

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/11/2018 17:28

What if it is a Summer Baby?

PawPawNoodle · 01/11/2018 17:28

Bobbie reminds me of police officers and Ian's murderous son off Eastenders.

ThriftyMcThrifty · 01/11/2018 17:29

I think Bobbie is a girls name, I know a couple but both aged over 40 and short for Roberta. Boys are usually Bob or Robert, at least the ones I know.
