Preparing for a flaming here but it has to be said. Is it just me or are the contestants on GBBO become more emotional each year? A little bit of criticism from Paul and Prue and it looks like they're gonna have a melt down. I get it's a competition and you want to win of course but it's really not that serious. It's bleeding baking for Christ sake. They're acting rather childish imo. Thoughts?

On a slightly different tangent, did anyone notice how stunning Ruby's relatives were? (Sister, cousin, mother?) All so pretty! Like Ruby! Smile

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 30/10/2018 22:46

Rahul was so much the best Baker from week one that they had to try and pretend not to notice.

And had he show followed its original, sensible, delightful BAKING format, he could well have won on merit.

As it is, loads of people think it was fixed (me included)

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 30/10/2018 22:49

I did pippa - I commented on the GBBO thread what a good-looking family they are.

pippa999 · 30/10/2018 22:51

Yeah they are gorgeous. Smile Beautiful family!

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 30/10/2018 22:55

They should do more realistic challenges:
Cook a nice tea cake with a child roaring at you
Make as many eclairs as you can in 2 hours, while on hold to some complaints department that plays fast spanish guitar music.
Bake your best bread, while wearing a bulky dressing gown

Now THAT would be worth watching Lucky

tiredgirly · 30/10/2018 22:56

In an interview PH said Dan was the best baker that had ever been on the show.

@TSSDNCOP

And cease and desist with the whole spoiler thing. Why should the rest of us stop a discussion because you’ve opened a thread about a programme knowing the final is on tonight???

Have to agree with this.

It's a pity that some people cannot watch it live (like if they are at work,) and they find out the result before they watch it. But you can't expect the whole country to be quiet about the result of a major, very popular show, just in case someone hasn't watched it!

I mean, how long should the whole country be quiet for? For the rest of that night? For the whole of the next day? All week?

If people are just not watching it live because they are watching something else, (and I suspect is the case for the people whining on this thread,) then tough shit. As has been said, why click on a thread about it?! Confused

tiredgirly · 30/10/2018 22:58

did anyone notice how stunning Ruby's relatives were?

I think Ruby is nice lookin, her relatives wwere nothin special

cafenoirbiscuit · 30/10/2018 23:00

I’m gutted that Briony wasn’t in the final. Cheery, positive, and with only a thumb and webspace to one of her hands, yet managed to make bakes better than many folk could with a full complement of digits.

She was the star for me, closely follow d by Kim Joy.

peachgreen · 30/10/2018 23:03

Really bad final. They've started setting challenges for the drama instead of the beautiful final results and it shows. I'm really disappointed in this season. I liked a lot of the contestants (Manon, Briony, Ruby, Kim-Joy) but I loathe Pru and Paul - so unnecessarily cruel - and although I like Sandi and Noel they're no Mel and Sue.

geekone · 30/10/2018 23:10

Yes @LizzieBennettDarcy because what we need on TV is more white middle aged straight people Angry. Maybe all of the contestants should be male add to the white privilege and just go the whole “white male privilege” while we are at it.

pippa999 · 30/10/2018 23:11

@cafenoirbiscuit

Agree about Briony. She was vibrant, cute, smiley, and so pretty too! Smile And she was a good baker too!

LaurieMarlow · 30/10/2018 23:12

I think the challenges were somewhat overblown this year (and the firepit was downright gimmicky). Where will they go from here?

I'm gutted Kim Joy threw it away in the showstopper. I went from being really irritated by her in week one to to rooting for her in the final.

seventhgonickname · 30/10/2018 23:17

I think Sandi and Noel were seen so little that they may as well not be there.
What the hell has baking pitta's on a slate got to do with baking? And during a heat wave that had a jar explode on Raoels work top.
And what happened to the fantastic show stoppers of years gone by that we now have stuff that looks like play dough made by a child that didn't wash their hands and mixed the colours up.Even Kim Joy who could have gone Ott on this one seemed to loose heart.
I think channel 4 have finished this off for good.

AndromedaPerseus · 30/10/2018 23:17

All 3 contestants were very talented but Ruby was the only one who you’d want to go for a drink with. Rahul’s Eyeore character and K-J’s lack of resilience were irritating but it also seem to provoke PH and PL to either being ultra empathic or critical. I preferred GBBO when the emphasis was on the technicalities and history of baking rather than the bakers personalities and comedy.

Oh no! We are watching on catch up and just found out from the thread who won! Maybe a spoiler alert for anyone else?

@Noeuf why would you open a GBBO thread when watching the final on delay?!

I only just finished watching the Final and because I was watching on delay I stayed away from all social media until I had finished. I knew I would probably get spoiled if I went online so I avoided it altogether. However, if I had taken the risk and had come online I would never have opened any thread relating to the program - especially when it has the show written clearly in the thread title.

Parttimewasteoftime · 30/10/2018 23:30

Wanted Briony to win!
Raul was given extra time and how does mould look good on a cake!?
Open fire thing was 🤔 its just not the bake off out of the tent!
Like Noel and Sandy hate pru and Paul might miss it next year but feel sad about that 😢

Tiscold · 30/10/2018 23:34

Honestly i think the show has run it course.

It has gone from an honest bakjbg competition to one with so many tantrums and tears. From challenges that were tough but not painful to watch to forcing contestants to have to cut massive corners and deviate massively from the recipe.

captainpantbeard · 30/10/2018 23:36

I thought this thread was going to be about KimJoy’s snowflake biscuits. I made some yesterday and was hoping for some decoration ideas. ❄️

GoatYoga · 30/10/2018 23:37

Just finished watching the final - it is beyond me why anyone would look at a GBBO thread after the final and not expect people to be talking about the result.

Am I alone in having enjoyed this series and thinking that Rahul deserved to win?

PickAChew · 30/10/2018 23:41

I've always loved Mel. And sue and always loved sand and noel, though never envisaged them together.

The finals and semis did seem to a a constant case of let's not give the contestants quite enough time.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 30/10/2018 23:44

I preferred GBBO when the emphasis was on the technicalities and history of baking

So did I!

There was some really interesting stuff in those little cameos.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/10/2018 23:49

This is the first season I've properly got behind in a couple of seasons baker-wise, but I do agree that the fire-pit was jumping the shark a bit. Some of the show stoppers have pushed the limits of what you can do in the time and still do it properly, too. I feel it has peaked.

That said, I prefer Sandi & Noel to Mel & Sue. I miss Mary though. I appreciate that Prue is there to judge but some of her comments come across as really nasty digs. Paul can be brutal but Prue randomly says mean spirited little asides in a manner that suggests who ever she's addressing is the village idiot.
