Parking ticket

Was on my way back from doctors appointment, 6 months pregnant having issues with low blood pressure. Felt unusually faint so pulled over by the McDonald's which is opposite subway to nip into subway for a bottle of water. Didn't realise half car was over a disabled bay. 30 seconds later whilst in subway looked out to see parking warden, so ran straight out. He told me to step away from the car to issue me a ticket so he could take pictures and ignored anything I had to say. On the ticket it says observed from 17:16 to 17:16 so less than a minute! I know it wasn't right to park in the bay but I would have been far more vigilant if I hadn't of had to pull over so quickly

It's unfortunate but they probably won't cancel it

SpottingTheZebras · 29/10/2018 17:56

I hope the water helped you to feel better but I am afraid you YABU and will have to pay the ticket.

ilovepuppys · 29/10/2018 17:59

@SpottingTheZebras didn't even get time to get the water as came straight out ☹️
Yeah I know just wish wardens could be a bit nicer and not so rude when spoken to!

Parking in a disabled bay is an immediate ticket, unlike the 5 minutes grace you get with overstaying your time.

Traffic wardens can't hear appeals, he was simply doing his job and not issuing the ticket could have got him in trouble as it was started.

Argue it with the parking company/ local council. They may be lenient as you had a good reason, but also be aware that they may question if you should be driving with that issue.

JosellaPlayton · 29/10/2018 18:00

It was a disabled space and you’re not disabled. I really hope you’re feeling better now and yes it’s shit but regardless of the circumstances you were in the wrong and should pay the fine.

MrBull · 29/10/2018 18:00

The vast majority of traffic wardens I've ever had the misfortune to meet are power hungry robots. If they had already started processing the ticket then I can see their argument that they need to complete it, but they could be nicer about it even if they are "just doing their job" and you were in the wrong.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/10/2018 18:01

Still try and appeal it OP

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/10/2018 18:03

Honestly a person could pull over into a disabled bay to die and mnetters would still say “pay the fine”- u may as well try and appeal it.

Malbecfan · 29/10/2018 18:04

Is it private land as opposed to council-owned? If so, you cannot compel people to use blue badges although the private parking cowboys companies would have you believe otherwise.

Best thing is to get onto the Parking Tickets forum on MSE. Read the newbies thread first and get on with it. I would also go and appeal to the manager of the company owning the land if it's private land as they can compel companies to cancel tickets. Failing that, a sob story in the local rag normally works wonders, especially given you are pg!

Bigonesmallone3 · 29/10/2018 18:13

Unfortunately I think it's extremely rare that they accept negligence as an excuse regardless of circumstances

Jimdandy · 29/10/2018 18:28

Once he’s started issuing the ticket there’s nothing you can do except appeal. So you may as well have stayed there and gone back and got your water as he can’t issue you another one for 24 hours. Everyone always seems to get in their car and drive away as fast as they can but as long as you’re not obstructing you may as well stay there!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/10/2018 18:55

Oh if it’s private land say it wasn’t you and fob them off

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 29/10/2018 20:03

Ooh it’s infuriating 😡 My DH nearly got one recently from a little Hitler whilst he was waiting for me. There were 5 empty disabled bays and he parked in one (and stayed in the car) I was gone about 3 mins but the warden pounced and said if he didn’t move he’d give him a ticket. My mum was once about 3 inches over a yellow line and also got a ticket. I swear the guy was hiding behind a bin as DH saw him come over to the car just as DM walked off!

greendale17 · 29/10/2018 20:09

^Little Hitler? You sound a bit thick. If you obeyed the rules you wouldn’t have to deal with traffic wardens.

Aprilislonggone · 29/10/2018 20:10

Send a copy of the front page of your maternity notes with your appeal.

PattiStanger · 29/10/2018 20:12

So parking wrongly in a disabled bay is absolutely fine as long as a) there are other bays and b) you stay in the car?

Are you joking? You don't really think that's OK do you?

MrMeSeeks · 29/10/2018 20:13

Seriously?

Aprilislonggone · 29/10/2018 20:13

The op was having a drink not a full on Mc order!

So was any of you actually disabled? If not then who cares if others where free, you shouldn't have parked there and you were lucky you didn't get a ticket.

SillySallySingsSongs · 29/10/2018 20:15

Nice Hmm

There were 5 empty disabled bays and he parked in one (and stayed in the car)

It is irrelevant how many bays there were. You weren't entitled to use it. The end.

Sitranced · 29/10/2018 20:16

Appeal it with the local authorities. Wardens can't do anything once they've started to issue the fine.

Caprisunorange · 29/10/2018 20:18

Oh OP no one likes getting a parking ticket but sometimes you just have to pay up and move on. You don’t want the stress

MacosieAsunter · 29/10/2018 20:20

Traffic wardens, more reviled than drug dealers.

You have to be a special brand of jobs worth to be a traffic warden.

ellendegeneres · 29/10/2018 20:30

But macosie why??
If they’re out of work they’re ‘thinking they’re too good for any kind of employment’ and if they’ve a job that’s putting food on the table and keeping them off benefits, what’s the issue??

I recently displayed my blue badge. Car was ticketed because it was a residential area 🙄 when looking at the info on the board it wasn’t apparent if it would be a ticketable job, but on way back to car dp and I spotted a warden on the backstreets and asked about our car (hadn’t seen ticket yet) Poor man looked terrified when he confirmed he’d placed a ticket on the car and thanked us for not attacking him(!)
What kind of world are we living in where attitudes like this are so common? Little hitler? Jobsworth? Really!?

WonderTweek · 29/10/2018 20:31

I’d recommend at least trying to appeal. Whether it’s the council or private land they might be flexible if you explain the situation. Try to find the actual owner of the land (E.g. the council) and raise it with them rather than the parking company. The company are unlikely to cancel but the land owner might be able to contact them and get the fine cancelled if they feel like it was issued in error.

I’ve actually met some really nice and reasonable traffic wardens. Smile
