Parking ticket

ilovepuppys · 29/10/2018 17:53

Was on my way back from doctors appointment, 6 months pregnant having issues with low blood pressure. Felt unusually faint so pulled over by the McDonald's which is opposite subway to nip into subway for a bottle of water. Didn't realise half car was over a disabled bay. 30 seconds later whilst in subway looked out to see parking warden, so ran straight out. He told me to step away from the car to issue me a ticket so he could take pictures and ignored anything I had to say. On the ticket it says observed from 17:16 to 17:16 so less than a minute! I know it wasn't right to park in the bay but I would have been far more vigilant if I hadn't of had to pull over so quickly

you don't need to pay tickets not issued by councils
I'm so shocked at how many people still don't know this

they write you letters aka invoices you ignore the end

Belina · 29/10/2018 20:38

and op you don't move back away from your car because some stranger told you, a traffic warden is a nobody next time get in your car and drive off

WitchesWeb · 29/10/2018 20:39

I'm shocked that you don't know that recent court cases mean that this isn't the case.

starzig · 29/10/2018 20:41

Not getting how you were well enough to come running out and forget about the water when you seen a traffic warden but not well enough to park properly in the first instance.

Caprisunorange · 29/10/2018 20:42

Wasn’t even recent the test case was about 4 years ago and they are EXTREMELY aggressive. I got one last year and they had a small claims court date within 4 weeks (I appealed; they claimed they had never received it)

MrsStrowman · 29/10/2018 20:42

Colleague of mine overstayed her parking by about fifteen minutes because she went to leave the office but was instead hit by a wave of morning sickness by the time she got back to her car she'd overstayed. She appealed not hoping for much but they did waive it as a 'good will gesture' . It is a blue badge space though so they might be understandably stricter.

HildegardVonBlingen · 29/10/2018 20:42

Appeal, OP. You will have to write an essay to the Council (as I have done, in response to a ticket which was issued unfairly - I have never contested all my others, which were a fair cop Grin), stating your mitigating circumstances. 8 months on, I am still awaiting a response to mine. I do nag the Council intermittently, but I hope they have now given up. I have not paid it, needless to say...

Not true anymore. Parking companies can ( and have) taken people to court ( and won).
Law changed, a lot of people do know this now..
Don’t pay but don’t inore unless you want a summons or a ccj.

I mean this in the nicest way but are you sure you are OK to drive at the moment if you are having regular issues with low blood pressure and feeling faint? It could be dangerous.

m0therofdragons · 29/10/2018 22:29

If you need to pull over that quickly that you can't park with care then you're not safe to drive. I mean that in the nicest way and as someone who also has very low bp. I'd be careful using medical reasons. It's annoying but you made a mistake. You won't be the first or last person to argue feeling unwell I'm afraid.

greendale17 · 30/10/2018 07:24

@Belina

Stop giving out wrong and irresponsible advice

Oysterbabe · 30/10/2018 07:32

I'd love to be a traffic warden. The amount of cunts round here that block the entire pavement with their cars and park across the dropped curbs. I do see the odd one with a ticket and it always cheers me up.
Don't blame traffic wardens for your own inability to park legally.

Ragwort · 30/10/2018 07:35

Has a Traffic Warden ever been on the AMA thread, it must be a really difficult job to do when so many people hate you?

overagain · 30/10/2018 07:48

@Belina then they'd just send the ticket to the address the car is registered to. Achieves nothing.

Kickassbitch · 30/10/2018 07:48

This is a big pet hate of mine, minor flouts of the law are irritating and a waste of resources.

Things like disable bays, yellow lines and other minor laws are there for a reason and should be very easily adhered to by the public. If they weren't needed they wouldn't be there. I've heard every trick in the book to avoid tickets but on the same token have seen many people who could use every trick in the book but don't, they manage and follow the law.

OP if your blood pressure is that low you shouldn't be driving, I'm sorry but people can't pick and choose how disabled bays etc can be used to suit. We all know it doesn't work like that so we can't be shocked when we get a ticket. We all know we get one if we get caught, its nothing new.

The biggest mistake people can make is that they can talk themselves out of the ticked when actual fact there are very few exceptions which get you off the hook and even then that's not the wardens decision its someone else's.

I may seem a bit of a jobs worth on this but it's really just a simple case of, if you think you can bend these rules where does it stop?

I have worked in law enforcement before and can see the bigger picture.

Caprisunorange · 30/10/2018 07:48

When I used to work in parking we had a traffic warden who got set on fire

Caprisunorange · 30/10/2018 07:48

And a bailiff who got stabbed (I can see how that one happens though)

RedSkyLastNight · 30/10/2018 07:53

So your reason for pulling over and not noticing it was a disabled space was that you felt faint? But you were perfectly well enough to get out of the car, go into Subway and later have a chat with the traffic warden?

I do wonder if you would have got a ticket if you'd just pulled over, realising you weren't safe to drive and sat in the car until you felt better? I would hope not, but if you had I think you would have had some grounds to appeal.

(as an aside, keep water and food in the car if you're subject to feeling rubbish).

Kickassbitch · 30/10/2018 07:53

Belina Traffic Warden is NOT a nobody, they are there to enforce parking laws because some people are incapable of following them.

It's only irritating because most people can follow them its just a few who can't and get tickets.

If most can avoid the tickets then why cant the others, if they could there would be no need for them, they're only there because some feel entitled to park were most know they shouldn't.

twinnywinny14 · 30/10/2018 07:54

If you’re well enough to walk across to subway then you’re well enough to park properly and follow the rules

siakcaci · 30/10/2018 07:55

Sorry but you parked illegally. Pay the fine.

Neshoma · 30/10/2018 08:00

Did you buy the water and still have the receipt? This could be proof you just stopped for a drink and back up your story.

I would go to appeal with my receipt and medical notes and hope they are in a good mood to let you off - but be prepared to pay.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/10/2018 08:11

You might as well appeal as you've nothing to lose OP. Did you park in a normal space but were over on the disabled space or just directly on the disabled space ( sorry too many spaces in there I know Grin )

Puggles123 · 30/10/2018 08:20

I have to agree that if you can’t park in a correct space perhaps you need to consider whether you should be driving at the moment. I have been poorly this pregnancy and due to similar reasons have decided not to drive as it can be fairly unpredictable and there is not always the luxury of being able to pull over safely etc. This does mean taking public transport to work which takes an hour longer, so not an easy option. Obviously up to you what you do and I’m not one of those who thinks pregnancy should stop you carrying on as normal; but if it is causing issues then have to think of others as well. In relation to the ticket, sucks but you’ll probably have to pay it.

mumto2babyboys · 30/10/2018 08:28

Hate parking wardens. They forget people are human and make mistakes with parking, like everything else in life
