Parking ticket

Was on my way back from doctors appointment, 6 months pregnant having issues with low blood pressure. Felt unusually faint so pulled over by the McDonald's which is opposite subway to nip into subway for a bottle of water. Didn't realise half car was over a disabled bay. 30 seconds later whilst in subway looked out to see parking warden, so ran straight out. He told me to step away from the car to issue me a ticket so he could take pictures and ignored anything I had to say. On the ticket it says observed from 17:16 to 17:16 so less than a minute! I know it wasn't right to park in the bay but I would have been far more vigilant if I hadn't of had to pull over so quickly

There are some disgusting comments on this thread regarding people just doing their jobs. Some of you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves, but given the willingness to make the comments in the first place I rather suspect that will not happen.

Traffic wardens do a difficult job, taking an awful lot of abuse from people on a daily basis. The appeals process is there for a reason - TW's are human, they make mistakes sometimes and you can appeal if you think they have.

siakcaci · 30/10/2018 13:51

Nasty, little low life job

It's a shame that in this day and age people can't be choosy. A job is a job and your views towards the working person here are disgusting.

eightoclock · 30/10/2018 13:55

Class traitors? Rubbish. Class traitors are those who refuse to live by the rules that benefit us all, because they are so amazingly selfish that they don't care who they inconvenience or endanger. Police, traffic wardens etc are only needed because of all these nasty people. They do a very valuable job. Selfish driving is one of the most dangerous things in our society. If you stick to the rules no one will make money out of you.

formerbabe · 30/10/2018 13:55

Not really...vast majority of the people they are fining are working... round where I live a parking ticket is about £60 if you pay early! Over £100 if you don't...that could be someone's food shopping for the week? You know, to feed their kids. Perhaps a couple of pairs of school shoes their children desperately need.

Traffic wardens are assisting the rich and powerful in screwing over their fellow man.

formerbabe · 30/10/2018 13:57

Police, traffic wardens

Whose said anything about the police?! Confused. Completely different job....

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 30/10/2018 14:02

This is a serious question, why can't people just accept the consequences of their actions, instead of trying to wriggle out of them?

You either aren't well enough to drive (in which case stop driving) or you didn't pay enough attention. Your circumstances don't justify you parking (badly at that!) in a BB space - you fucked up and I don't see the point in complaining about someone doing their job when it was your fault.

I agree there should be more enforcement of misuse of BB spaces and knobs parking over pavements. It would make me very happy, and my life a lot easier. In fact if I saw a traffic warden ticketing someone for doing this, I would say thank you!

Ah, that's sweet...you actually think they're doing it because they want to help people.

WitchesWeb · 30/10/2018 14:09

@formerbabe maybe don't park illegally.

Traffic wardens are assisting the rich and powerful in screwing over their fellow man

Those parking on pavements or double yellow lines or in BB spaces are hardly helping their 'fellow man' either are they!

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 30/10/2018 14:10

No, I think they are doing their job in enforcing rules that exist for the benefit of people with disabilities.

Do you have a problem with that?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:13

I assume everyone on here championing these restrictions think car park charges in hospital- you know the place we all visit for fun- are justified too?

formerbabe · 30/10/2018 14:15

No, I think they are doing their job in enforcing rules that exist for the benefit of people with disabilities

Of course that's why they do it.

In fact, I'd imagine that assisting in making disabled people's lives easier is the primary motive for traffic wardens... Yup.. definitely.

mumto2babyboys · 30/10/2018 14:15

She's pregnant and made a mistake jeez!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:17

why can't people just accept the consequences of their actions, instead of trying to wriggle out of them?

Because life happens. If I have a gp appointment and theres no parking what should I do, drive home, cancel, make another appointment and park 3 hours in advance? What if you get somewhere and run out of change for the metre? What if Im just about to leave sainsburys and my toddler throws up on me and Im late back to my car by 10mins?- sometimes life just happens and that is that time some bastard warden turns up and takes £60 quid off you. £60 is a lot to some people!

anniehm · 30/10/2018 14:17

Today I was with a disabled friend, couldn't park in any disabled bays, eventually found a spot 3 streets away and she struggled to our appointment past all the disabled bays, none had badges. Sorry whether it's half over or fully over isn't the point, the parking attendant was doing his job.

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 30/10/2018 14:20

I don't particularly think about their motives Former, to be honest, just like I don't have to really think hard about the motives of people who work in shops, or my doctor or their receptionist or call centre operatives.

I think they, like most people, are doing a job probably primarily to earn money, and fair play to them. I'm happy to deal with them and am grateful for their service (for want of a better word).

I'll ask you again - do you have a problem with the enforcement of BB spaces?

WitchesWeb · 30/10/2018 14:20

Because life happen

Anyone can say that about anything.

formerbabe · 30/10/2018 14:21

I'll ask you again - do you have a problem with the enforcement of BB spaces?

No..is that all they enforce?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:22

Also let me enlighten everyone to what the cancel now do- they build vast new build blocks of flats and provide less parking than one car per flat- so where are people supposed to park? Even if the resident themselves doesn't have a car, if they have visitors- they cant park. Its a money making scam backed by the council.
If you are going to preach us playing by the rules perhaps councils could start playing fair.

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 30/10/2018 14:23

Only perhaps you could take responsibility for the consequences of your decisions? Is it just you that should be exempt from rules or can everyone be excused?

That's why I can't ever fucking park at my doctor's, as there is always a none BB holder parked in the BB space. And then someone comes along and whines about you know life and it's not fair and I don't care about inconveniencing you because I'm more important...

LightDrizzle · 30/10/2018 14:23

Bad luck OP! - but you do need to grit your teeth and just pay up. You were partly obstructing a disabled bay, ignorance of the fact isn’t a defence.
If Traffic Wardens were given discretion, can you imagine what a nightmare their job would be? Some people will lie to wriggle out of a fine, should they be demanding to see medical records? Asking for proof that someone’s mother has just died? That their child is critically ill in the hospital across the road?
The way it works is the only way it can IMO. I know it’s frustrating. I’ve appealed twice myself when parked with my daughter’s blue badge with the time dial accidentally obscured, husband put his scarf on the dashboard as we left the car and didn’t notice the corner was over it, the other time it slipped down under another piece of paper. Once they waived it, once they didn’t. On neither occasion had we been longer than the permitted time.
I am now careful to check.
If we can’t find a disabled bay, we occasionally have to abort what we are doing, as I literally can’t get my daughter in her wheelchair out of the WAV without a lot of clearance. In busy towns, that can easily arise.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:32

FortniteIsTheNewCrack sorry to be clear I dont condone parking in BB spaces, I have never done it. However I do think there are exceptional circumstances, a pregnant woman about to faint at the wheel being one of them.
My gripe is about the lack of any parking, the fact that every sodding car park is sold on to a Gemini or equally vile Parking company who prey on people with their fake solicitor letters, and the utter contempt the council has for hard working people trying to go about their day. Combined with the ever increasing costs of public transport- i think its a disgrace.

Tiscold · 30/10/2018 14:44

The lack of parking and cost is a disgrace.
But is that the wardens fault? NO.

Traffic wardens get violently assulted when at the end of the day they're trying to feed and house their family just like you and me.

They're not traitors, theyre people who should be celebrated. Going out to work knowing you could face violence and hatred from the public just because they broke the law and are now getting punished.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:49

theyre people who should be celebrated.....WHY? They arent drs or firefighters.....should we celebrate Bailiffs too?

Everanewbie · 30/10/2018 14:52

Whilst I feel a bit sorry for folk who over run at the Drs or whatever, generally speaking I love seeing people being ticketed. Parking costs a fortune, I pay the charge when needed and love seeing CFs get their comeuppence.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 14:54

how lovely to laugh at other people's misfortune, and clap for yourself for being so perfect Everanewbie
