Parking ticket

ilovepuppys · 29/10/2018 17:53

Was on my way back from doctors appointment, 6 months pregnant having issues with low blood pressure. Felt unusually faint so pulled over by the McDonald's which is opposite subway to nip into subway for a bottle of water. Didn't realise half car was over a disabled bay. 30 seconds later whilst in subway looked out to see parking warden, so ran straight out. He told me to step away from the car to issue me a ticket so he could take pictures and ignored anything I had to say. On the ticket it says observed from 17:16 to 17:16 so less than a minute! I know it wasn't right to park in the bay but I would have been far more vigilant if I hadn't of had to pull over so quickly

good on the traffic warden (if you were parked in a BB bay) about time they cracked down on abuse of these bays.

siakcaci · 30/10/2018 09:14

Hate parking wardens. They forget people are human and make mistakes with parking, like everything else in life

Hate humans. They forget parking wardens are doing their job, and tend to blame the parking warden when they park illegally.

Giantbanger · 30/10/2018 09:20

If you can’t drive safely enough to realise you’re in a disabled space, you shouldn’t be driving. Sorry.

punter · 30/10/2018 09:32

If there were no wardens it is likely that people would park wherever they wanted, for as long as they liked with no regard for disabled drivers, pedestrian safety, road congestion and access. That is why we have wardens doh.

KidLorneRoll · 30/10/2018 09:39

"Hate parking wardens. They forget people are human and make mistakes with parking, like everything else in life"

They are people, like you, trying to earn a living. Maybe try to remember that, eh? I'm sure you'd be quick enough to moan if parking became a free-for-all.

WRT the OP, the fact is that you parked - mistakenly or not - in a disabled bay and you really don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to an appeal. Just pay up and forget about it.

SpoonBlender · 30/10/2018 09:52

I would love more traffic wardens, preferably with the ability to summon one of those crane trucks to take inconsiderate shits away.

Elasticity · 30/10/2018 09:54

YABU - take 10 secs to pay attention to where you park.

SpoonBlender · 30/10/2018 09:55

By "inconsiderate shits" I mean intentional parkers, not so much the accidental ones. But still, intent doesn't matter if you've left the car somewhere daft.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/10/2018 09:56

How does a traffic warden know that it's someone that's " made a mistake " or it's someone being a selfish arsehole and parking wherever they want?

They don't. They have to treat everyone the same and without them can you imagine how many people would be parking illegally?

worridmum · 30/10/2018 10:08

Traffic wardens do a very important job did you not see the outcome of aberewstie in Wales that made the announcement they were getting rid of all there traffic wardens to save money.

People literally parked were they liked yellow lines disabled bays even bloody blocked roads. The police had to come out so much the council had to reinstate the traffic wardens.

Police have the same powers as traffic wardens and more they can have your car removed but they dont use them because its a waste of their resouces when traffic wardens exist.

BollocksToBrexit · 30/10/2018 10:59

I wish there were more traffic wardens out issuing tickets to people who park in disabled parking bays.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 11:11

Traffic wardens are scumbags- sole purpose is to make money for the council. The council who want us to use local shops and amenities, yet hike up the rents and make it impossible to park anywhere near your local high-street- short sighted and money grabbing!

YABU. You're not disabled. Pay the fine.

But macosie why??
If they’re out of work they’re ‘thinking they’re too good for any kind of employment’ and if they’ve a job that’s putting food on the table and keeping them off benefits, what’s the issue??

I recently displayed my blue badge. Car was ticketed because it was a residential area 🙄 when looking at the info on the board it wasn’t apparent if it would be a ticketable job, but on way back to car dp and I spotted a warden on the backstreets and asked about our car (hadn’t seen ticket yet) Poor man looked terrified when he confirmed he’d placed a ticket on the car and thanked us for not attacking him(!)
What kind of world are we living in where attitudes like this are so common? Little hitler? Jobsworth? Really!?

I'd rather go destitute and lose my house than become a traffic warden. It's a job I just absolutely could not do. I'd consider sex work before considering being a TW tbh.

blackteasplease · 30/10/2018 11:31

Yabu but id try to appeal and see where it got me. Could be successful in the circumstances. If not then pay it.

Newbnewb · 30/10/2018 11:59

I would follow their appeal process and if you're lucky they may overturn it, but be prepared to pay the charge if they decide it should stand.

Earlier this year my DH received a hospital parking charge after forgetting to pay when our DD was blue lighted there following an allergic reaction. We provided the hospital discharge letter which confirmed the date/time/reason for admission and the appeal was successful. We then made a donation for the equivalent car park fee to a local charity.

I wouldn't pay automatically though - there's plenty of ppl who fortunately escape charge when their tickets expire and I doubt any of them 'do the right thing' by giving the equivalent fine away. So I would appeal as is within your rights but accept the outcome.

HellenaHandbasket · 30/10/2018 12:02

They're not 'scumbags'. They're doing a job. If people played by the rules they wouldn't even be necessary.

If you have issues with regards having to pay for parking, take it up with the council.

Caprisunorange · 30/10/2018 12:22

Funnily enough when I worked in the industry the largest group that received tickets were blue badge holders, because the rules under which they can park can be quite confusing and vary location to location. So more ticketing would likely just increase their tickets Grin not inconsiderate arseholes parking in their spaces

Most people who are ticketed have just made a mistake. Even inconsiderate arseholes don’t want to pay £40 for nothing

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 12:29

I consider them, as with transport ticket inspectors, class traitors.

As for private car park companies, eugh- lowest of the low.

Caprisunorange · 30/10/2018 12:30

That’s a very interesting point onlyfools. I like it.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/10/2018 12:40

Some very unpleasant people on here. Traffic wardens are everyday people doing their job. If you are not breaking the law they wont bother you.
Imagine your house was on fire and the emergency services couldn't get to you because people had parked wherever they felt like it.

ProfessorMoody · 30/10/2018 12:57

YABU.

It was a disabled space. As you're not disabled, you can't park there. If you can't park within lines, you shouldn't be driving.

formerbabe · 30/10/2018 13:42

I agree...class traitors.

Nasty, little low life job...imagine walking the streets day in day out trying to catch out your fellow man or woman...doing the dirty work of the powers that be who have nothing but contempt for you and the general public.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2018 13:49

very unpleasant people on here...i agree, the people who are saying "tough luck" to the 6months pregnant OP who had a lapse in judgement when feeling faint.
