To think this is a bloody rip off and be annoyed at my stupidity?!

Have just purchased a handmade Christmas gift from a local Facebook seller. Lovely item, ideal gift for a friend and was glad to be “buying local”.

Have received the item, realised a little while later that the label from a well known bargain Swedish shop was left on (by accident I assume!).

AIBU to message the seller? I’m annoyed that I’ve paid almost £10 for something which she bought for less than £1Blush

Yeah. You've been ripped off all right and why would you ever pay 10 quid for it in the first place?!

EsmesBees · 28/10/2018 20:17

I don't know... I'd never expect the candle itself to be handmade for that price.

KatharinaRosalie · 28/10/2018 20:20

If I buy a candle advertised as 'handmade' I would expect it to be handmade

TheOneWith · 28/10/2018 20:20

You paid £10 for that Shock

MrMeSeeks · 28/10/2018 20:26

What!!

Thehop · 28/10/2018 20:27

£10??!!!!!! Jeez

I’d honestly be gutted

VioletPickles · 28/10/2018 20:28

Jeez, I think you were robbed! Why did you think that was worth a tenner!

bertielab · 28/10/2018 20:29

I would complain. That's not fair.

Advertise by all means as personalised candles but not homemade. But save others from doing the same...........that's lying and fraud. Not on. Please complain for others who might make the same mistake! Also do they have insurance etc -what happens to lettering when candle is hot etc?

Booksandwine80 · 28/10/2018 20:32

I feel like a right fucking twat to be fair! Blush

In my defence, the item was supposed to be “handmade candle with beautiful blended scents” and “intricately personalised” Angry

Oh, and also meant to be about twice the size that it is!Gin

I think it is beautiful and I would have fallen for the 'handmade candle with beautiful blended scents'...

ForgivenessIsDivine · 28/10/2018 20:41

I think I would let her know that she should remove the bar code from anything else she sends out...

indieshuffle · 28/10/2018 20:43

Get your money back and buy something genuine.. like a nice beeswax candle. Won't release all those nasty chemicals when it burns either and helps save the bees!

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 28/10/2018 20:44

From that description on would have expected a handmade candle, "beautiful blended scents" suggests to me that they've made it themselves. It does look nice though.

HollowTalk · 28/10/2018 20:47

If she advertised it as hand made then you should insist on your money back.

goingatlast · 28/10/2018 20:48

Are you sure that it wasn't an empty jar she bought and then filled it with a handmade candle and wrote on it

DailyMailFail101 · 28/10/2018 20:50
Hmm
Booksandwine80 · 28/10/2018 20:54

goingatlast
No. The bloody Ikea label was on the candle!

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 28/10/2018 20:55

That gold lettering is a label? Surely that would cost lots to order?

Where would they be able to get a personalised label for less than £9? Would they make much money on it?

Serialweightwatcher · 28/10/2018 20:55

It's a nice idea though - want to know how to do that to make christmas pressies but no clue how to do the label

MrMeSeeks · 28/10/2018 20:57

I be demanding my money back

bertielab · 28/10/2018 20:58

I'd absolutely comment on her FB page and ask her to explain why she had said 'homemade' etc -not on. Sorry for posting twice -but this has got my goat.

Lovemusic33 · 28/10/2018 20:58

Surely this is what most people do when they sell personalised gifts on Facebook? They are trying to make money, buying a candle and jazzing it up with some glitter? If you would rather pay someone else to decorate a candle rather than do it yourself then more fool you 🤣

Booksandwine80 · 28/10/2018 21:01

lovemusic33

I paid for a “homemade blended candle”

Not a bloody 85p ikea candle with a label on

OP posts:
SassitudeandSparkle · 28/10/2018 21:01

I would complain if the candle wasn't handmade because that would be a bit much! Yes to buying the candleholder, but if the candle is supposed to be hand-blended, ask her why it had an ikea label on it.
