First time leading the trick or treating as a parent. Thought as a child we always went out the weekend before Halloween night as such as there was always Halloween parties etc taking place! Have started to wonder if doing it tonight is not acceptable? Don't want it to be a let down for my DD/annoy people.

It's not acceptable as it's not Halloween yet. I haven't even bought anything yet

leaveituntiltomorrow · 27/10/2018 17:32

If you came where I am tonight no one has a pumpkin out. And I guess you’ll only knock where there’s a pumpkin? We also don’t have any treats in.

HRTpatch · 27/10/2018 17:32

I think you might be a bit disappointed

IgnoranceIsStrength · 27/10/2018 17:32

Wednesday night only. I have no sweets either and wouldn't be expecting any today

LL83 · 27/10/2018 17:32

I am going out tonight, hadn't occurred to me that kids would come tonight.

Will vary place to place but I would wait until Wednesday if unsure.

Longdistance · 27/10/2018 17:32

It’s not ok for tonight. Do it on the actual night after school and not too late.

sirfredfredgeorge · 27/10/2018 17:32

I have never known it be acceptable to do it on any day but Halloween, and for much of the UK, only on decorated houses - which are unlikely today. so I would say yes, YWBU.

Blanchedupetitpois · 27/10/2018 17:33

I’ve anticipated there may be some tonight so have some sweets in but my DH thinks it’s not on til actual Halloween.

Ginmakesitallok · 27/10/2018 17:33

You can't go tonight! It's not Halloween!

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/10/2018 17:33

I've not bought anything yet and many other people won't have

Sparklingbrook · 27/10/2018 17:34

31st or not at all. People would be Confused as it's not Halloween today.

harridan50 · 27/10/2018 17:34

No I have nothing in for trick or treaters, dont mind on the 31st but it would be annoying tonight

Cachailleacha · 27/10/2018 17:34

It's not Halloween! Very unreasonable to allow children to knock on strangers' doors when it isn't even the right night.

Redcrayons · 27/10/2018 17:34

I’d have nothing to give you, so she’d be disappointed if you came here. it’s not Halloween yet.

SEsofty · 27/10/2018 17:34

It’s not hallowe’en. No one will have decorations or sweets

Woooooooooobodyforrrm · 27/10/2018 17:35

If there are pumpkins or decorations out, then yes. But around here, there definitely wouldn’t be on any other night except the 31st.

Personally I’d be a bit annoyed if someone came round tonight, but I would rummage through my treat cupboard so the kids didn't leave disappointed. Then i’d Turn off the lights.

I say this as someone who loves Halloween and has the best house in the area according the the kids and parents on the night itself.

ibblebibbledibble · 27/10/2018 17:35

Noooo Halloween only

Zzz1234 · 27/10/2018 17:35

No you don’t do it tonight. It’s a one night only thing.

Cachailleacha · 27/10/2018 17:36

I wouldn't give out any sweets even if I had any because it's not the right night and I wouldn't want people to get the idea that it is remotely okay.

steff13 · 27/10/2018 17:36

What makes you think you can go trick or treating on any random night you choose?

TheCatWhisperer · 27/10/2018 17:37

I think you'll have one very disappointed 4 year old if you do. And it's guising

kaytee87 · 27/10/2018 17:37

It's not Halloween. Why would anyone be expecting you?

Pattinson3 · 27/10/2018 17:37

Where I live decorations and Pumpkins have been out from Thursday..

Have seriously misjudged this I think lol

Thanks folks!

YABU! It's Saturday night and people won't want you banging on their door with your child begging for sweets. It's bad enough you'll do this on Halloween. Stop being precious, DD won't be disappointed because she's 4 and it's a non-event anyway. It is whatever you make it. But if you knocked on my door tonight I'd tell you to go away, if someone is having a Halloween party they don't need you interrupting either.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/10/2018 17:37

I guess it depends on local variation, but near me it's strictly on the night only, even if people have started to decorate their houses.
