First time leading the trick or treating as a parent. Thought as a child we always went out the weekend before Halloween night as such as there was always Halloween parties etc taking place! Have started to wonder if doing it tonight is not acceptable? Don't want it to be a let down for my DD/annoy people.

halloween night only.
and only where people have decorations/lit pumpkins out.

colditz · 27/10/2018 18:21

no thank you

It isn't halloween

Hadenoughofallthis · 27/10/2018 18:23

I am only prepared to tolerate Hallowe'en T or T'ing between the hours of 5 and 7 on 31st, when I can make sure the house is in darkness and I am out.

Devillanelle · 27/10/2018 18:24

I wondered if it would be tonight but thankfully the doorbell hasn't gone as I have nothing in yet.

saoirse31 · 27/10/2018 18:27

31st is only acceptable date.

Topseyt · 27/10/2018 18:27

Tonight is the 27th of October. Halloween is 31st. Don't do it.

I find Halloween irritating anyway and haven't taken part since my children were in primary school (youngest is now 16). We still sometimes get people knocking even though we don't do decorations or a pumpkin.

Don't spread it out. It should be for one night only (31st).

Willow2017 · 27/10/2018 18:27

Is there no parents left in this country who dont feed their children sweets? Not to mention the begging with threats, the scary costumes and the fire risks from pumpkin candles. Claudia Winkleman wny be doing it

Its not begging if people are wanting kids at the door ffs.

Kids wont be sitting inside my pumpkins so no bloody fire risk there either. Seriously?

It's not even a British tradition, but an awful American import

Oh ffs educate yourself will you?
Time and time again every fucking year. ' Samhain Halloween' was a Scottish and Irish tradition for hundreds of years Before it went to USA.
I despair every year...

Medea13 · 27/10/2018 18:29

This is insane. Why would this be acceptable?
I bet you "birthday month" as well... ugh.
What next, creme eggs during Lent?

RhiWrites · 27/10/2018 18:34

Well I’m going to a Halloween party tonight and I expect some people will be out truck or treating. When Halloween falls mid week I expect events both weekends.

Fluffyears · 27/10/2018 18:35

I love Halloween and have decorations up but you will have to wait till Halloween white I have out thrsweets.

Pattinson3 · 27/10/2018 18:38

Thanks for the eh varied responses (but especially anyone who was kind)

I appreciate all the feedback but honestly "this is insane" etc.

Dramatic much.

YABU. Halloween is 31st October, not before.

I read an article on FB tonight about changing Halloween to a weekend to suit parents better. Ridiculous, it’s a specific date that shouldn’t be changed just so kids can collect sweets Hmm

Rebecca36 · 27/10/2018 18:42

Anyway, Strictly's on tonight and that takes precedence.

Aeroflotgirl · 27/10/2018 18:44

Exactly Skyesayshi, 31st October, and no other day.

charliebear78 · 27/10/2018 18:45

Gawd there are some miserable buggers on here!
I love all the little children coming round with parents.
What I don't like is pre teens/teenagers coming round in huge groups with their hoods up and one mask between them!!!

NutElla5x · 27/10/2018 18:55

Oh Christ no! Let us not let Halloween get like Guy Fawkes night and start celebrating it weeks before the actual day. It's a one night thing only, and even though I have goodies in ready you would get nothing if you came to my door tonight.

Angrybird345 · 27/10/2018 19:04

Truck or treatingvtajes place on 31 October only ..... not before, not earlier.

ShadyLady53 · 27/10/2018 19:04

It’s bad enough total strangers knocking on your door on Halloween itself. Let’s not extend it to include extra nights, please!

CartwheelCath · 27/10/2018 19:05

I'm nit miserable. I get involved on 31st. I play along with the kids and get loads of sweets Im in and output decorations.
Halloween is 31st.

Have a party with likeminded friends this weekend if you choose but don't force me into a week long of buying more sweets and not being able to sit down in peace.

You might think tonight suits you, someone else may think tomorrow night suits them better. Then Monday for someone else. People busy thus weekend may decide next weekend is better for them. Where the fuck does it end?
31st is better for me and the majority on thus thread.
Please don't call me miserable just because I don't want a week long or potentially 9 or 10 nights of door knocking if you include both weekends.

TroysMammy · 27/10/2018 19:12

Would you give your children their Christmas stocking on 22nd or 23rd December because it's the weekend?

AlphaBravo · 27/10/2018 19:13

It's not Hallowe'en. Piss off. I'd be furious if you knocked on my door 4 days early.

Thisreallyisafarce · 27/10/2018 19:14

CartwheelCath

I wasn't specifically talking about those people who said, "Not for me, thanks." But - and please don't take further offence - I will think whatever I like!

gamerwidow · 27/10/2018 19:15

No one locally ever trick or treats before 31st. If you went out tonight no one would have sweets in and they’d think you would very odd indeed.

TrickyKid · 27/10/2018 19:17

Only happens on 31st round here. No one's got their pumpkins out yet.

Cachailleacha · 27/10/2018 19:25

I love all the little children coming round with parents.

I prefer the 8-12 year olds myself, as long as they have made an effort with their costume that is! Little children have all the Christmas magic, Halloween is more for the older ones to me.
