First time leading the trick or treating as a parent. Thought as a child we always went out the weekend before Halloween night as such as there was always Halloween parties etc taking place! Have started to wonder if doing it tonight is not acceptable? Don't want it to be a let down for my DD/annoy people.

Itll be a let down OP

I suspect many wont have sweets in - I don't.

I wouldn't give any until wednesday...then it is non stop door answering lol

Confusedbeetle · 27/10/2018 18:03

Are there no parents left in this country who dont feed their children sweets? Not to mention the begging with threats, the scary costumes and the fire risks from pumpkin candles. Claudia Winkleman wny be doing it

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 27/10/2018 18:03

No, I wouldn't have anything ready to give out and no decorations up yet. It's one night only, not a week.
It's a bit cheeky. I think it's different if you could ask a few neighbours if you can knock at theirs' with a bit of warning.

SlothMama · 27/10/2018 18:03

Don’t let them out tonight I have a pumpkin but no sweets yet!

theWarOnPeace · 27/10/2018 18:05

Please don’t knock on mine. Having a quiet night in and don’t need trick or treaters coming randomly whenever it suits them. What on Earth makes anyone think this would be a good idea is beyond me.

SoyDora · 27/10/2018 18:05

Err, yes? Why would you come to that conclusion from one short MN thread about the acceptability is trick or treating before Halloween?

IceRebel · 27/10/2018 18:07

Stop your kids from eating sweets, and chances are you'll have teenagers who spend all their money on the when they finally get the chance. Everything is fine in moderation. Cake

redandbluehedgehogs · 27/10/2018 18:08

Nope not acceptable to come tonight

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 27/10/2018 18:09

I hope we don't get any early trick or treaters here - I haven't had a chance to go through the bag of chocolates and pick out the ones me and my husband like yet!

This comes up every year and every year is the same - halloween is the 31st so go out then.

CartwheelCath · 27/10/2018 18:11

Please don't.

31st only.

People have decs out for more than 1 day because otherwise it's probably not worth the bother and why not enjoy it. But I've never known anyone go out before 31st no matter what day of the week that is.

Most people won't be expecting it and tbhif you knocked on us tonight I would probably feel a bit annoyed. One evening is enough to be up and down to the door or to listen to my next door neighbours dog going mental every time someone knocks or walks past.
Plus I wouldn't have any sweets in yet.
I can't help thinking by extending trick or treating to the weekends either side of it would kill the good community spirit. You might think Its ok to go out this weekend but someone else may think it's ok to do it later in the week. I'm happy to get involved 1 night but not several.

Perhaps next year plan a little Halloween party or event for close friends if you want a weekend celebration.

Amanduh · 27/10/2018 18:13

It’s not Halloween

Hadenoughofallthis · 27/10/2018 18:13

Oh ffs, is this Hallowe'en shit now going to be like Bonfire Night, when fireworks start going off for weeks either side? And Christmas, which seems to start earlier and earlier every year?

It's not even a British tradition, but an awful American import.

Big no no.31st or not at all.Folk on my estate would look daft at me if I took my kids trick or treating tonight Hmm

Soubriquet · 27/10/2018 18:14

I know the feeling. It makes more sense to do it at the weekend instead of a school night but hey ho.

Wednesday only

I8toys · 27/10/2018 18:14

31st only. I'd think you were deranged if you showed up on any other night.

Huntlybyelection · 27/10/2018 18:15

No. You go guising on the 31st only because thats when Hallowe'en is.

ffs it's NOT an American import, it IS a tradition in the UK

Thisreallyisafarce · 27/10/2018 18:16

MN is so miserable sometimes!

OP, my sweets are ready. If you knocked with your cute 4 year old, you could have haribo. But I only have haribo!

TroysMammy · 27/10/2018 18:16

No. I had some teenagers knocking my door and chorusing "trick or treat". I asked them if they knew the date. "Halloween" was the reply. I told them that it was the 29th October and to come back on the 31st. I don't know if they did because I was out Halloween Grin

SoyDora · 27/10/2018 18:17

Not miserable, I just wouldn’t think of buying Halloween sweets before Halloween so would have nothing to give! Better to come on a day when people have something to offer.

CartwheelCath · 27/10/2018 18:17

I'm.with you Hadenoughofallthis

If this is the start of a prolonged T or T craze I won't be partaking. I'll have to get one of those Fuck off posters from our local PCSO.

MrsFogi · 27/10/2018 18:17

No I would be annoyed to have my evening disturbed by a random trick or treater turning up tonight (I have the treats ready but wouldn't give them out before Halloween).

Returnofthesmileybar · 27/10/2018 18:18

Wtf, no way. I have my house decorated and wouldn't be impressed with callers any night other than Halloween
