First time leading the trick or treating as a parent. Thought as a child we always went out the weekend before Halloween night as such as there was always Halloween parties etc taking place! Have started to wonder if doing it tonight is not acceptable? Don't want it to be a let down for my DD/annoy people.

Here trick or treat is scheduled by the city. It's on Wednesday from 5:30pm-7:30pm. That's it.

kaytee87 · 27/10/2018 17:38

Their pumpkins will be rotting by Wednesday < not envy

SquirreledIn · 27/10/2018 17:38

only acceptable on Halloween. Unless you live in an area where it's traditionally done on another night(I know of one) then you'll just annoy people, and it's likely that many of those who participate won't have their sweets in yet.

MortyVicar · 27/10/2018 17:39

Doing it tonight smacks of 'gimme the loot' rather than Halloween.

steff13 · 27/10/2018 17:39

We decorate our yard on October 1st.

Cachailleacha · 27/10/2018 17:40

If there are pumpkins or decorations out, then yes.

Don't people have the right to decorate their house for more than one night? Doesn't mean it's okay to knock before the night.

ineedabagformyhippo · 27/10/2018 17:41

It's too early imo, only the day itself would I answer the door and have sweets. I'd be very confused if anyone knocked on another day!

Mulberry72 · 27/10/2018 17:41

I’ve got no pumpkin out, neither have any of the other houses on our street. I’ve got sweets in but we’re going out tonight.

Definitely only do it on Halloween, your DC will be disappointed tonight I suspect.

SillySallySingsSongs · 27/10/2018 17:42

No way around here. 31st or not at all.

Anoisagusaris · 27/10/2018 17:43

Madness!! I’m not in the UK but trick or treating only happens on the 31st. Houses get decorated in October but it doesn’t mean you trick or treat once decorations are up! On Halloween night you only call at decorated houses but it doesn’t mean you call before Halloween to decorated houses!

Sparklingbrook · 27/10/2018 17:44

I decorate our house on 31st as soon as it gets dark. Then get it all in before I go to bed.Other houses around here do the same.

MissSusanScreams · 27/10/2018 17:44

Too early!

No self respecting trick or treater goes out before 31st.

I grew up in the states and this was a staple of my childhood. The horror!

TeaAndBisquits · 27/10/2018 17:45

We've got two pumpkins we've carved today to put out tonight with some decorations. I've not got any treats in yet though and don't expect anyone to come trick or treating until Wednesday.

Armchairanarchist · 27/10/2018 17:46

My house will only be decorated on the 31st and I'd welcome you then but not tonight.

notsureIsignedupforthis · 27/10/2018 17:47

Weekend before for Halloween themed parties, totally acceptable
Trick or Treating only on the 31st.

Plus you want the clocks to go back first so it is dark earlier.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 27/10/2018 17:48

If you came to mine tonight I could offer you a wrinkly apple or half a crumpet.

I really didn’t know T or T on any other days was a thing

OhEctoplasmOnIt · 27/10/2018 17:49

Oh god what the hell? I have a pumpkin and decorations up for the benefit of my kids, I hope nobody comes knocking tonight because I'll be mad! My kids will be in bed!

IceRebel · 27/10/2018 17:52

I've got sweets in ready, but anyone who comes knocking before the 31st will be walking away empty handed.

huggybear · 27/10/2018 17:56

I have decorations out but certainly not expecting any kids!

SoyDora · 27/10/2018 17:57

We won’t have any sweets until actual Halloween.

FuzzyCustard · 27/10/2018 17:59

Crumbs no.

I wouldn't welcome a child knocking on my door demanding sweets with menaces at any time, and it's not even Hallowe'e'n yet. (To be fair, I don't hand out sweets even on Hallowe'en. Can't abide it!)

It would make me irrationally grumpy.

MaisyPops · 27/10/2018 18:00

Only trick or treat on the 31st.

The only people I know doing Halloween things today are adults doing Halloween parties (and 6th formers trying to get in a local nightclub's Halloween night Grin)

Confusedbeetle · 27/10/2018 18:00

I think the whole thing is a terrible idea

viccat · 27/10/2018 18:01

I have decorations in the window as do several houses on my street and technically I have the sweets ready BUT trick or treating is acceptable on the 31st only, while the pumpkin or other themed lights are lit outside.

Someone asked about this in my local FB group too and the answer was the same - it's on Wednesday, not this weekend.

Aprilsinparis · 27/10/2018 18:01

Noooooo!!! I'm not expecting any trick or treaters, I don't have any sweets!
