Will a&e refer me to oral surgeon ASAP? 6 month wait on nhs and I’m in agony

emmapemma91 · 26/10/2018 22:25

I’ve rang department to ask if they could keep me up to date if there is any cancellations

OP posts:
Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:27

Yes, Livpool both tooth nerve pain and back pain have made me vomit with pain, days of labour, aggressive labour, did not

pretendingtowork1 · 26/10/2018 22:29

@emmapenna91 didn't you have another long thread on exactly the same topic? why the need for a second one, did you not like the (very sensible from what I recall) answers?

emmapemma91 · 26/10/2018 22:29

I already feel pretty guilty about considering going to minor injuries with it, it really is a last resort after the dental hospital turned me away. I’m not someone who ever goes to hospital over silly things, and know there’s people who need the service more, just exhausted all over options.

OP posts:
emmapemma91 · 26/10/2018 22:30

@pretending yes the answers on the last thread were great but they recommended going to dental hospital, which I now have and they’ve turned me away.

Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:31

Ooo I didn't know you can do that Emma
But I would get yourself down there and get triaged when your level of pain will put you high up the list, behind any paediatric cases

CoolCarrie · 26/10/2018 22:32

I nearly overdosed on pain killers due to dental pain, it was hellish, ended up at dental hospital and it was dealt with. Go and see what the hospital can do for you, it’s bloody awful to suffer like this.

GhoulishGremlins · 26/10/2018 22:33

Rather than A+E could you go to a walk in?

I've been there Flowers

Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:34

I think you need to cut someone a break who's in such high level pain.

What are you suspicious of, someone getting treated quicker with valid reason.

I think I would be in tears with this, and you don't have to justify yourself answer stoopid questions OP

Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:35

Sorry, that was to pretending

HeddaGarbled · 26/10/2018 22:36

A friend of mine went to A&E in similar circumstances and was sent away untreated with advice to see her dentist.

Wagonwheelsandstrawberryjam · 26/10/2018 22:36

Whereabouts are you op? One of my local hospitals has an emergency dentist always onsite as it is a training hospital, is there anything like that near You?

Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:37

...and don't let anyone make you feel guilty either. You have enough going on with the pain you are in, plus the infection.

BritInUS1 · 26/10/2018 22:39

Call 111 and see what they recommend.

Walkerbean16 · 26/10/2018 22:41

i went to a and e in similar circumstances, having been back and forth to the dentist 6 times in a week. i was kept in on a pain relief and antibiotic drip and seen by a max fax surgeon that night. (in a supplies cupboard with a student holding his phone torch into my mouth so the surgeon could see!)

hope you get sorted soon OP. ive had three labours with no pain relief and would sooner do that all again!

NeverStopExploring · 26/10/2018 22:41

A&ex is not the place to go. People need to be more aware of what a&e is for.
Taken from the nhs website:
When to go to A&E
An A&E department (also known as emergency department or casualty) deals with genuine life-threatening emergencies, such as:
loss of consciousness
acute confused state and fits that are not stopping
chest pain
breathing difficulties
severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
severe allergic reactions
severe burns or scalds
stroke
major trauma such as a road traffic accident

Pain from an infection is not one of thee above. Minor injuries, non emergency telephone line or emergency dentist is more appropriate

CarpeVitam · 26/10/2018 22:43

You poor thing OP, dental pain is the worst. I've bad memories of sleepless nights, pacing the house. I so hope you get some help with this. Hugs x

emmapemma91 · 26/10/2018 22:45

Yes been thinking of going to minor injuries instead. I’ve been to dental hospital they won’t touch them due to the roots, really @walker what was your situation

OP posts:
Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:46

Oh gawd never

Good time to post rules. Did you read she's been in agony for months and has an infection; lets hope she finds a doc there with more empathy than you, very helpful post not

emmapemma91 · 26/10/2018 22:47

It also says on NHS to go to a&e if tooth pain is severe and not helped by otc pain relief

OP posts:
Shriekingbanshee · 26/10/2018 22:48

Is your minor injuries part of hospital, otherwise you'll not get anything more than pain relief and ab's if you're lucky?

Schuyler · 26/10/2018 22:50

A&E might give you stronger pain relief and antibiotics but equally, if you phoned 111, they might be able to get you an out of hours GP appointment. Are you in England? I have much sympathy btw. Flowers

ChiantiAndTruffles · 26/10/2018 22:51

@emmapemma91
Did you see an Oral Surgeon in the Dental Hospital?
Did they recommend leaving the tooth dye to potential nerve damage?
What did they suggest going forward?
Will the Oral Surgeon you are hoping to be referred to be in a separate department?
Having you considered paying privately for an opinion?

ileclerc · 26/10/2018 22:53

I'd go to walk in, you obv need ab's and an np can prescribe.

ileclerc · 26/10/2018 22:54

@NeverStopExploring I'm genuinely interested where you live that you have an emergency dentist line?!?
