Noticed a post on here about a post being posted on "the sun" this made me realise just how unsafe this site actually is and I no longer want to use it

OP posts:
overnightangel · 26/10/2018 15:18

Link please?

Sickened007 · 26/10/2018 15:19

The OP was removed but I noticed it earlier

OP posts:
MsTSwift · 26/10/2018 15:19

It’s anonymous though? I don’t know anyone who reads the sun

MrsStrowman · 26/10/2018 15:19

All kinds of media outlets post MN threads, it's how I found MN, where have you been?

footballmum · 26/10/2018 15:20

You do realise it’s a public forum don’t you?

Racecardriver · 26/10/2018 15:20

The daily mail also regularly screenshots posts. This is a public forum

Sickened007 · 26/10/2018 15:20

Yeah but the post was a sensitive matter

OP posts:
SymphonyofShadows · 26/10/2018 15:20

It's not good that they do this but this is a public forum, I think people forget what that means.

CallMeRachel · 26/10/2018 15:20

It happens all the time. Be careful what you post and you'll be fine. Name change often.

Sad but lazy journalists use this site to feed off for stories without permission.

Ohheyyy · 26/10/2018 15:21

This is nothing new. I'm more surprised you didn't realise this was a public forum.

OrangeOrBlackcurrant · 26/10/2018 15:22

MN isn't unsafe but you are naive if you don't realise that all newspapers lift stories from MN and other social media. This place is a great source of information and support. Posters just have to weigh that up against the likelihood of having their threads lifted.

OftenHangry · 26/10/2018 15:22

*Yeah but the post was a sensitive matter,

But it's a PUBLIC forum. If you use nay other, it will be exactly the same. Except few exceptions

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/10/2018 15:22

This has been happening for years.

gamerchick · 26/10/2018 15:24

It's nothing new. This place crawls with press, daytime telly etc. Tbh I think half the stuff they lift was put there by them anyway.

SuperstarDJ · 26/10/2018 15:26

I’m surprised that your only realising now that the gutter press regularly trawl MN.

Sickened007 · 26/10/2018 15:27

I was obviously aware it was a public forum just wasn't aware media use it for their sickening benefit

OP posts:
TooTrueToBeGood · 26/10/2018 15:29

Yeah but the post was a sensitive matter

So why did they post it on a forum that claims to get 100,000 unique visitors every month? Rather than not posting on MN, a fsr better approach would be not to include readers of the Sun, Mail or Mirror in your social circle.

araiwa · 26/10/2018 15:29

Id stay away from twitter instagram and facebook as theyre unsafe too

Sickened007 · 26/10/2018 15:35

Guess it just made me cautious that's all

OP posts:
SillyMoomin · 26/10/2018 15:35

Think you need to step away op. If it was that sensitive then the op either didn’t mind she was posting on a public forum or didn’t mind discussing it.

Either way- yabu

Tara336 · 26/10/2018 15:38

I do find if off putting that the papers lifts stories from MN. I appreciate it’s a public forum and you chose to post on it but i certainly don’t chose to have anything I may or not say in a newspaper (not that I have of yet)

LellyMcKelly · 26/10/2018 15:39

It’s a public forum. None of this is secret or hidden.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2018 15:40

You must be fairly new to Mumsnet then?

Mostly all tabloids and lots of TV shows feature MN threads

If you post something on a public forum, you have to be prepared for this sort of thing.

Actually even if you posted it on a 'private' forum, it's still not private as long as other people can read it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/10/2018 15:41

But anyone reading the Sun can read MN Op Confused

3out · 26/10/2018 15:42

This has been going on for ages, and not just with MN (just in case you thought you’d be ‘safe’ moving to NM or BC etc). Easy fodder!
