to have politely asked the workman across the road to pull his pants up?

He has been working in a few flats in a building across the road for many months now...end of May.
All through the blistering summer he has been waddling in and out of the building with his track suit bottoms riding 3/4 the way down. Often, his van is parked in front of my house and i am treated to several displays of his barely covered arse.
Today I had enough. He had held up the traffic unloading bags of plaster from his van, the strain of which made his pants inch further down than usual and we were fractions away from a total denoument. Mind you, he managed all this with a fag in his mouth so his priorities appeared a little strange. My daughter was with me and we both had to sit and watch the show.
We parked up, I let her in to the house then I crossed back and said, politely, "Do you know how low your pants go? Please could you try and keep them over some of your bottom, some of the time?"
naturally, he told me to go fuck myself and not look at his bum, to which I replied, 'There are times I have no choice and quite frankly, its boring now."
Unreasonable? Or should I not have to see his hairy bum out on a regular basis?

Since you seem to entirely depend on the way other people dress to control your reactions, I suggest that you either embrace radical Islam, or alternatively become a Brexiteer and Take Back Control.

Thisreallyisafarce · 22/10/2018 13:57

I don't think you would speak to another woman like this. I doubt you would speak to someone not doing manual labour like this. I think it was rude and I think your whole tone is off. It's not really his fault if his work uniform is ill-fitting. Poor bloke.

Disquieted1 · 22/10/2018 13:59

A certain amount of arse crack is part of the uniform for builders, however a full moon should really be confined to the night sky.

BiggerBoat1 · 22/10/2018 14:00

You were incredibly rude.

You have no right to tell someone how to dress.

PilarTernera · 22/10/2018 14:01

YABU what you said was not polite.

How a stranger dresses is none of your business. If you don't want to see his bum, don't look at him.

Cleavage in what context though? at work...what level of cleavage....like nipples just about peeping out over the top or just a little suggestion?
Low cut top, no bra, nipples obvious through the fabric, what the Daily Mail delightfully calls 'side-boob' showing. Men would be told that they shouldn't be looking, that it's a woman's right to wear what he wants. Well Bob the Builder can wear what he wants and if his trousers won't stay up or he's trying to be trendy and have his trousers barely on then so be it.
(Can't believe I'm defending someone's right to show builder's bum)

Hotchox · 22/10/2018 14:11

we both had to sit and watch the show

No you didn't. Look somewhere else for a moment. Being able to ignore something is a useful skill even when there aren't loose trousers in your field of view!

MissLingoss · 22/10/2018 14:22

Would people think it appropriate if their child's teacher turned up for work with his bum hanging out?

Or if the boy or man sitting in front of their teenage daughter in class or on the bus was showing her his bum when he stood up?

Or how do you explain to a small child that bums are private, except when it's Bob the Builder showing his bum?

RelicHunter · 22/10/2018 14:22

OP and MickHucknall 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s cheered up my ever so boring afternoon.

Thisreallyisafarce · 22/10/2018 14:26

MissLingoss

It probably is a bit much to have your bum hanging out, but comparing it to your child's teacher doing it is just daft, because they have dress codes, don't they?

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2018 14:27

I wouldn't expect to see my child's teacher dressed the same as a plasterer, no.

Aridane · 22/10/2018 14:27

I'm with Bob the Builder here

Boohissmiss · 22/10/2018 14:27

If a man had walked over to woman in a short skirt bending over and said this we would all be outraged

ProfessorMoody · 22/10/2018 14:30

Last time I checked, I didnt shit out of my cleavage. It's hardly the same.

If a woman was bending over with her hairy ass-crack on display for all and sundry to see, I'd be grossed out too.

Rebecca36 · 22/10/2018 14:30

You're not being unreasonable at all. He needs to wear braces1 That's what they're for. I hate to see builders' bums.

Aprilislonggone · 22/10/2018 14:32

Maybe shove a thorny rose down it if you get the opportunity?
My dh always has his crack showing and doesn't wear pants underneath.
Very grim indeed.

tiredgirly · 22/10/2018 14:33

you were very rude and condscendin, but you think it doesn't matter because you are better than him

lolaflores · 22/10/2018 14:35

I think the bum is very much a private area.
if I was sat behind his van, with his butt passing in front of the bonnet as he unloaded the back of his van for 5 mins, was I supposed to shut my eyes as he went back and forth.
i have been ignoring it for months now. Its not just a random bloke with his butt hanging out. This has become a permanent fixture opposite the house. If it was just one of those moments, I wouldn't really care but it is every single day.
I didn't tell him what to wear. I asked him to make sure what he was wearing was doing what it was supposed to do, which is keep his bum covered up just the way my clothes operate.

Elementtree · 22/10/2018 14:36

I'd say something about a full moon and howl like a werewolf everytime his bare ass is on display. Works for dh, anyway.

lolaflores · 22/10/2018 14:39

tiredgirly I am no by no means under the impression that a builder is any less a being than me. My father was a carpenter, my mum is a cleaner and I cleaned houses as a lone parent. Not a class issue I can assure you.
I am sure this guy is most likely financially better off than me. He owns properties in our area, which is not one bit posh.
I don't care where he sits on the social ladder, just put his bum away.

Builders have to show their crack, it's part of the job and expected Grin

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2018 14:42

You could have looked somewhere else for a bit, you didn't have to stare at his bum continually for the whole time. Confused
Unless it was particularly mesmerising I suppose.

lolaflores · 22/10/2018 14:42

Sarahjconnor i might suggest it to the tenants cos my hosepipe doesn't stretch far enough or have enough pressure behind it.

RomanyRoots is it union rules then? bugger it. Can't buck the union.
