To not trust her

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 07:06

This might sound a bit petty but because of my past experiences with friends stabbing me in the back i see a red flag waving in my face.
So this is a new friend I've made through my new hobby, it's a team sport so no competitiveness in the hobby. I arranged to have lunch with her as we work near by and it was good. So asked me if I was speaking to any new guys and I mentioned about speaking to a guy on social media that I had added and struck up a conversation with. I asked her too and she said she wasn't speaking to no guys.
Anyway I've just gone on this guys profile this morning and it comes up that she is now following him. It could be a coincidence but I don't know, seems unlikely she would randomly follow the guy ive started talking to unless she's gone onto my profile and seen who this guy is. Something is telling me not to trust this girl. Am I over thinking or should I be cautious of her?

That's just weird and pretty creepy in my opinion. Why on earth would she follow him? Single White Female alarm bells are ringing. I'd distance myself from her.

KC225 · 22/10/2018 07:14

Does she know this guy? Is he something to do with your hobby? Is she sounding you out - ie if you are interested in guys/girls - for her?

Hard to know, but sometimes, if yiubget that uneasy feeling, it's wise to proceed with caution.

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 07:19

No she doesn't know him, and is nothing to do with our hobby. I didn't mention this guys name or show her so she could have gone on my profile and found him. I just said he is really good looking. I liked a picture of his yesterday and I don't often likes guys pics so she could have found it that way too. Just strange I like his pic and the next day she's following him. He's a few years older than her so wouldn't mix in the same circles too.

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 07:31

No I just remembered I did tell her his name because we laughed about it and said it weren't a great name! So I've just realised she must know it's the guy ive been talking to!

Birdsgottafly · 22/10/2018 07:34

Just ask her.

I wouldn't have conversations of that nature with her again, until you know her better.

Perhaps hold back a bit until you've known someone longer.

She isn't a Friend yet, she is someone you are building a Friendship with.

buckeejit · 22/10/2018 07:35

That's weird. I might idly have a poke round out of curiosity but follow? I'd text it & day-why did you follow the guy I said I'd been chatting to?

Polkasq · 22/10/2018 07:39

That sounds odd. You could say to her breezily "So how come you're following X?"

Jamboree05 · 22/10/2018 07:57

I had a 'friend' who did this once. Told her I'd been on a couple of dates with a guy and she friended said guy and began messaging him utter crap about me. Didn't end well for anyone...

Antigon · 22/10/2018 08:01

I wouldn't trust her.

And I would lock down security on your Facebook so she can't see your pictures, posts or likes.

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 08:01

jam well I sent him a message yesterday and he never replied which I found odd as he was keen to reply to before. I just have a gut feeling about this girl that I didn't have before.
Years ago I was friends with a girl who was like family, I later heard she was not acting like a friend on a night out with my ex. All over him. I was so hurt. Don't know why people do this is so called friends.

longwayoff · 22/10/2018 08:04

Weirdo. Absolutely. Find another friend, this one mischief in mjnd.

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 08:19

Ah I seem to be a bad judge of character. Quite a few "friends" have stabbed me in the back. Maybe I'm too trusting and nice!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/10/2018 08:38

Hmm that is weird. I know it's not the end of the world but that would make me wonder why she'd done that. There's no chance she was already following him? I know that's unlikely but just a thought. Is he local to you both?

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 08:46

No chance before I just did some digging in the notifications and it was yesterday she began following him. He is local to us both but they wouldn't mix in the same circles he is alot older than her.

longwayoff · 22/10/2018 08:49

Oh cuppa, most people are kind in my experience but maybe you are a bit too open too early. Try to keep to general topics when you meet new people and don't share personal info until you know them better. Some folk just get off on causing trouble for others.

TheJunctionBaby · 22/10/2018 09:27

Very weird as there is no other reason to friend him other than that you mentioned him. So I'd be suspicious. But then I'm suspicious by nature....

ShatnersWig · 22/10/2018 09:31

How old are you both?

hellojim · 22/10/2018 09:36

You didn't mention how old you are. I hear my DCs moaning about people doing this kind of thing and they are all in the mid to late teens. If you and she are older than that it then I would find it weird and keep clear of her.

Valasca · 22/10/2018 09:40

Ok, I’m going to sound very old but what to you mean by “a guy you’re talking to”

You randomly messaged someone on Instagram and now exchange messages?

And that’s it? Have you ever met or spoken to this person on the phone?

TeddybearBaby · 22/10/2018 09:45

I’d defo ask her. It embarrassing for her not you! I’d ask her face to face though so I could see her squirm. What a weirdo. No,
Wouldn’t trust her.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/10/2018 09:50

Yes, I imagine the OP and this woman are late teens or early twenties? Or maybe I'm just not with the times!

RedDrink · 22/10/2018 09:52

She is definitely not to be trusted.

SilverySurfer · 22/10/2018 09:54

Me too Valasca I don't understand this thing of 'following' someone you don't know and with whom you've never spoken. Is it with a hope of meeting them or having a relationship with them? If not, what's the point? I don't use any social media and the whole thing puzzles me. Same with people who say they have hundreds of facebook friends. They obviously have a different definition of the word 'friend' to me.

Cuppatea10 · 22/10/2018 09:54

I'm late 20s she's early 20s
