Finally planning our first kitchen and looking for ideas from people who’ve done it before - What’s the best thing you put in or chose in your kitchen? (Or indeed, the worst)

Huge fridge. I even decided against a dishwasher in favour of extra storage space although I think I've worked out how to fit one in now

Celebelly · 18/10/2018 19:44

Oh I love our kitchen island too. I often eat breakfast sitting on a stool at it or sit there on my laptop while stuff is cooking. It's been good while pregnant too as the hob is on one part of it, so instead of having to stand and stir/keep an eye on things, I can sit on a stool and stir :D

tinymeteor · 18/10/2018 19:44

Bin, sink and dishwasher all close to each other so you can rinse, scrape and load from the same spot.

Wow I am truly middle aged.

Yorkshiremum17 · 18/10/2018 19:47

Dishwasher
Larder cupboard
Deep pan drawers

Wish I had got a sink and a half!

feltcarrot · 18/10/2018 19:50

Built in ovens, we have an oven side by side with a combi oven/microwave, no more bending down!

TroysMammy · 18/10/2018 19:50

When I'm ready for a new kitchen I am going to have a cutlery drawer next to the sink because I hate having to walk to the drawer to put them away. My DP says I'm a freak with my cutlery "phobia". Smile

Knittedfairies · 18/10/2018 19:50

My dishwasher was out of action for a week; I really missed it. I’d also miss having a space for trays, cooling racks and chopping boards.

Knittedfairies · 18/10/2018 19:51

Oh, and a deep sink.

DroningOn · 18/10/2018 19:52

Waist height oven in a tall cabinet.

Never again will I have a under worktop oven.

sue51 · 18/10/2018 19:57

Boiling water tap and dishwasher.

MsSquiz · 18/10/2018 19:58

@Roussette we had those slime line cupboards at our old house and I loved them, either side of the cooker, they were so handy.

I couldn't be without my:
Wine/Prosecco fridge
Dishwasher (we have it in the utility room now, rather than the kitchen)
Double oven and a warming drawer

Beckyboo123 · 18/10/2018 19:58

I had an induction hob in my last kitchen which I miss so much!!! Can’t wait till we can do up our new house I will definitely be putting a decent induction hob in 👍

Goostacean · 18/10/2018 20:03

Placemarking gleefully as we’ll be redesigning ours soon! Great ideas.

I’ve seen pics, @DroningOn, doesn’t the whole cupboard get hot? How does that work..?

SparkyBlue · 18/10/2018 20:04

A pull out bin. There are two in the unit one for recycling and one for normal waste. It's lovely to have no actual bin in sight.

Pull out big tall larder cupboard right next to my hob so I can waft around pretentiously just pulling ingredients out of it and throwing them in pretentiously like I'm some kind of very fat Nigella Lawson.

Huge fridge freezer with plumbed in water dispenser and ice maker.

Pull out bin in cupboard with double compartments so the recycling's contained and out of sight and the dog's bin raiding glory days are over with.

Queenie8 · 18/10/2018 20:08

We had under counter slim slide out cupboards fitted to utilise space, they're brilliant.

Pull out pan drawers - a revolution!

Double full height larder cupboards, I store all my crockery, and glassware etc.

Integrated appliances, but absolutely go for the most expensive you can afford, we had to have our washing machine replaced within 9 months as it was faulty.

A freestanding range cooker with six burners.

We have a huge kitchen, oddly shaped, with 22 cupboards, every bit of space is utilised, the only thing on the worktop is the kettle and coffee machine.

I'd also advise against Wickes sub-contractors. Our kitchen took 11 months to complete and be perfect. Lots and lots of fighting with Wickes to get things rectified.

Make sure your fitters put up sheeting to stop the dust escaping into other areas of the house.

Good luck 🤞🏻

Walk in pantry. Love it.

When the children were little I’d sometimes hide in there with a cuppa and biscuits for a moments peace. Smile Now they’re all in their bedrooms but I still love having all the food and large kitchen gadgets in one space.

Lunaballoon · 18/10/2018 20:09

@ginmakes - we used to have under counter fridge/freezer. Never again!! If you don’t want to spend half your time grovelling on your hands and knees trying to find stuff, have a rethink!

Getabloominmoveon · 18/10/2018 20:14

Definitely a Quooker (boiling water tap) - the handiest thing in the world. We had a wine fridge in our previous kitchen: total waste of money and space.
If I had a bigger kitchen I would have a walk-in pantry - lust over those.

Roussette · 18/10/2018 20:15

Yes MsSquiz I can't begin to say how much I have in them! I have two either side of American fridge and I can get so so much in them, they may be slim but they are really deep Grin

Also another one I wouldn't be without is underfloor heating... kitchen space is too valuable to have radiators and it just feels so luxurious

Shoefleur · 18/10/2018 20:16

Insinkerator. Don’t know how I managed without it. Butler sink and pull out tap that also has a ‘shower’ style function. I miss them all so much when we’re on holiday. If that sounds pathetic then you clearly don’t have them at home!

lottiegarbanzo · 18/10/2018 20:18

What's so good about induction hobs, compared to gas?

cptartapp · 18/10/2018 20:18

Induction hob
Pull out bin
Wine fridge
Spray/rinser tap

GerdaLovesLili · 18/10/2018 20:20

Dishwasher and separate spray hose.
