Finally planning our first kitchen and looking for ideas from people who’ve done it before - What’s the best thing you put in or chose in your kitchen? (Or indeed, the worst)

Pan drawers, a huge floor to ceiling free-standing larder and a boiling hot water tap!

randomsabreuse · 29/11/2018 15:38

More plug sockets than you think you could possibly need, at least some with USB as well. Possibly all of them but that might be overkill. I have 4 double sockets, plus fuse spurs for under counter appliances and I still have a multi USB charger plugged in in the kitchen

noenergy · 06/12/2018 08:00

@gingercat02 what is an appliance garage?

gingercat02 · 06/12/2018 19:19

@noenergy. Just a cupboard with a roller door to hide away all sorts of related items. For example coffee machine, beans, tea, sugar and other hot drink related items or toaster, bread bin, butter, jams, etc. They have sockets inside so electric items can be used in there and then the door closed on them when not in use.

noenergy · 06/12/2018 20:47

That sounds great as appliances can really clutter a worktop

Ffsnosexallowed · 29/01/2019 18:18

So our new kitchen was put in before Christmas. No dish washer. 2 under counter fridges. I love it!!! Best things? Deep drawers. Double oven. Compact laminate worktop.

deecrepid · 29/01/2019 18:42

And all that washing up!!!!

Ffsnosexallowed · 29/01/2019 18:58

Dp does it 😘

themagicamulet · 29/01/2019 19:00

Boiling water tap and underfloor heating. Warm feet and instant cups of tea....!

Almostfifty · 29/01/2019 20:55

I couldn't do without my one and a half sinks. I've also got cupboards to the top, I've a small set of stepladders for when I need to get to the top shelves.

I've a range cooker with two ovens, a stand alone fridge freezer with water and ice that I couldn't do without and a dishwasher. I use all of them, all the time.

Kitchenqueen2 · 17/05/2019 23:13

I have a Quartz waterfall island with seating- I love having so much workspace and it’s great when people are round as they can sit and talk while you prep food! It looks amazing too, looks like marble, its the first thing anyone comments on when they walk in!

Ginxed · 17/05/2019 23:19

Massive fridge freezer, big range cooker, plenty of worktop space and my pull out larder - these have transformed my kitchen into a space I enjoy cooking in.

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 17/05/2019 23:20

Why so many threads about kitchens all of a sudden! And this one is ollllllllllllld

BridgetDarcy · 17/05/2019 23:23

Neff hide and slide self cleaning oven ❤️

Curious2468 · 17/05/2019 23:27

Things I love in mine -
Pull our larder
Deep counter tops - I didn’t know these were a thing till we moved here! Means I can have my appliances and still have decent surface space for food prep etc
Range cooker
2 fridges and 2 freezers

Someone is busy reactivating old kitchen threads today. Long life the zombie kitchen.

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/05/2019 23:34

My spice cabinet. Skip job from an old pharmacy, that I had built into the kitchen

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/05/2019 23:35

Oh no, zombie apocalypse!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 17/05/2019 23:47

@Weedsnseeds1 it's ok, that spice rack is a thing of beauty, worth the zombie thread!

GlamGiraffe · 17/05/2019 23:48

Quooker tap. Best thing ever
Soft close, self closing cupboards and drawers.
Gas hob- hate induction with a passion!
2 ovens.
Deep sink
Pan drawers
Huge granite worktop.

GlamGiraffe · 17/05/2019 23:52

Oh and underfloor heating of course...perfect when you pop down first thing in the morning to get your wake up coffee!!

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 17/05/2019 23:53

Double oven. God knows how anyone cooks a roast dinner without one.

I would also have cupboards to ceiling if I redid my current kitchen. I adds metres of extra shelf room and means you don’t have to clean (or ignore) the sticky greasy gunk that accumulates on the top of normal height cupboards.

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/05/2019 23:55

@ZippyBungleandGeorge , I love it beyond all rational parameters
When I saw it in the skip, I hauled it out and lugged it around for two years before I found a house to fit it in Grin

TooManyPaws · 18/05/2019 00:48

I already had the dishwasher but the best thing added is a pan carousel in the corner cupboard next to the range;it's sort of kidney-shaped and pulls right out into the room. I haven't got my plinths fitted yet as I'm planning on adding plinth drawers from Magnet (not where I got the kitchen from) to increase storage in an otherwise wasted space. I also love the two half-height pullouts (like half-height larder cupboards either side of the range as I keep all the chopping boards, juice cartons, squash bottles, etc in them - perfect size.

weegiemum · 18/05/2019 00:55

Corner larder cupboard
Pull out larders
Range cooker with 3 ovens and 5 rings
(Personal fave) - sodastream! Saved me a fortune in plastic bottles of fizzy water!
