Op one of the huge problems with self id is that if it goes through then people will be afraid to challenge someone declaring that they are a woman when they are in a women only space. They will feel unable to ask to see proof that the person has the right to be there. This is what opens it up to abuse.
This is not about trans people with body dysphoria who need societies acceptance and support. They absolutely must be able to live their lives without discrimination, fear, abuse and intimidation.
There is an enormous, out of control, world-wide problem with child pornography. The majority of who access it are men. The UK police have admitted that they do not have the money and resources to catch and prosecute all of these people accessing child pornography so they are focusing their attention on the ones who are accessing the worst kind, the ones making it and distributing it.
All child pornography involves the sexual abuse of children. Every picture viewed involves an abused child. Every video involves an abused child. The numbers of men accessing this in the UK alone is astronomical. These people are paedophiles.
There are dangerous men who hate women and see them as lesser beings only there for their own sexual, abusive and sadistic gratification. The numbers of girls being sexually assaulted and raped at school is growing.
There is nothing a paedophile will not be willing to do to gain access to their victims. They will spend years grooming parents, organizations and children, gaining trust, respect and obtaining positions of power and control in order to get to what they want. Children.
Criminal psychologists, forensic psychologists, criminologists, prison psychologists, sociologists, social workers, prison wardens, prison officers, etc know this and have spoken out about this and just how dangerous self id will be with these people. They have warned us about this and they are being ignored. Self id is known about and talked about by these people in prison, how they can use it for their own gains. Violent, abusive, terrifying men in prison understand every way to play the system and this is their golden ticket. These are the ones we know about. These are the ones that have been caught. There are thousands that have not. They all know about this.
Self id will remove all the safety measures that are in place and open the door for these people to gain access to vulnerable children and woman. It removes the psychological counselling in place to support those with gender dysphoria (which is essential to help them with their transition) and also is there to find those who are wanting it for nefarious reasons. Abusers will not even have to apply for self id as they will be confident that no-one will question them accessing changing rooms, toilets and places like youth hostels. If self id becomes as simple as filling out a form asserting that you intend to live "as a woman" and paying a small fee then those wishing to access children and vulnerable women will be guaranteed to abuse it. No gatekeeping, no physical changes, no problem.
According to Stonewall's ever growing definition of "trans" you no longer need gender dysphoria. "Trans people may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including (but not limited to) transgender, transsexual, gender-queer (GQ), gender-fluid, non-binary, gender-variant, crossdresser, genderless, agender, nongender, third gender, two-spirit, bi-gender, trans man, trans woman,trans masculine, trans feminine and neutrois." This now includes men who are sexually aroused by dressing as women and being perceived as women. Who have no gender dysphoria and have absolutely no desire or intention of taking hormones or having surgery (apart from perhaps breast implant surgery, they will keep their fully functioning penis). We have already had a high profile paedophile using his power and connections to influence the changing of policies and safeguarding procedures. He was under police investigation throughout this, has since been found guilty of raping and torturing a 10 year old child multiple times (and possibly many more victims), while dressed as a little girl, wearing a nappy and calling himself Lucy and has been sent to prison for 22 years. We have had a violent paedophile and rapist incarcerated in a woman's prison where they sexually assaulted 4 women because he claimed to be trans, even though there was vast amounts of evidence that he was not. NUS's first official transgender students officer has been suspended pending investigation for allegedly running a blog in which she took photographs of herself flashing her penis in public places. There are many, many more examples and the list sadly keeps growing.
We know that of the 120 trans (male to female) prisoners almost half of them are sexual abusers. That is way over the statistical norm. We do not know how many of them have body dysphoria and how many are trying to game the system but are not actually trans.
How many attacks on children and woman by men abusing self id will be too many for people to say "wait, this is wrong". For me personally the ones that i have mentioned above are already too many.
