That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

The issue being discussed by McKinnon and TW Kirsti Miller who plays Aussie Rules Football. I really can’t understand the thought processes that legitimises this. So many transfolk completely cheer this on, i play competitive sports and everyone i know is completely incredulous and against this. Why do transfolk support and most non transfolk see the problems.

Each sport governing body will set their own rules regarding permitted levels of testosterone (and other performance enhancing drugs). The IOC rules which govern Olympic participation require transwomen to have levels below that normally found in men, but that are still significantly (ie multiple times higher) than those found in any woman

dangerous under the GRA proposals you don't need to be effeminate, or suffer from gender dysphoria, or take a cocktail of drugs all any male needs to do is rock up, say they ID as a woman and off they go.

Competition has to be down to chromosomes not feelz

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 15/10/2018 19:55

Cheat.

Thanks for the link. Quite a bit faster than nearest competitor. :(

Surely they should have a separate one for transgenders?

If he can't win against men he shouldn't be allowed to compete against women just to get a medal.

girlinleeds · 15/10/2018 20:36

this really worries me, my daughters ambition is to be an elite athlete, but how can she do that competing against men??

Bea · 15/10/2018 20:44

Bumping this as I think it's really important to voice your concerns and stand up for female rights...

That screenshot is something else, Badmoon ! A lot of the current gap between women and men's sporting performance is "sociological not biological".

WTAF?????

ShotsFired · 15/10/2018 20:49

@Santaclarita Surely they should have a separate one for transgenders?

Santa, were you aware this view would be deemed extremely transphobic and bigoted by the trans rights activists and certain MNers who shall remain nameless ? Even though you (and I and many others) believed you were being eminently reasonable and common-sense about the issue?

That's the type of people on the other side of this debate. Anyone who isn't tugging their forelock is the enemy and must be removed.

adoggymama · 15/10/2018 20:52

Honestly this makes me angry. I'm all for supporting transgender people (even though so much evidence suggests it is a clearly a complex mental health issue- not a thing to normalise!) but this is disgusting. If I was the cyclist in 2nd or 3rd place I would honestly appeal the decision to allow him in the race.

It's not fair. There are advantages that man has against them and quite frankly it's frustrating.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/10/2018 20:58

Look if we gave them a separate “trans only” race category in these competitions to make it more of an even playing field for them then I’m sure that a lot of trans women would decide that, funnily enough, they didn’t want to compete after all.

BiologyMatters · 15/10/2018 21:03

Would it be ok for usain bolt to self identify as a woman now he's retired, and start sweeping up women's medals too? If not why not?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/10/2018 21:05

My greyhound identifies as a 7yo child.
He has just won the school sports day 800m.
We are so proud 😊

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/10/2018 21:06

Surely the REALLY forward-thinking thing to do is to have the trans women racing in the men’s races, dressed and identifying however they like. Their new name could be female, they could run in a pink tutu for all I care. And if they WON, well, there is the REAL achievement. I would gladly applaud that and genuinely think “well done, good for you, all your hard work paid off!”

What do people think now? Just “you fucking cheating talentless anti-feminist prick.” Yay. Go, you.

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 21:07

He should have done a Bunce before retiring and taken all the medals, mens and womens. You missed a trick there Usain.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/10/2018 21:08

I agree with Curly

MissSusanSays · 15/10/2018 21:10

Yes, but they’d stand no chance if winning. Which seems to be the point here: ‘Boo hoo, it is so utterly transphobic to make us compete in races we couldn’t even win first time.’
This is a way for mediocre men to make something of themselves. How unfair of us to stop them. Hmm

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 21:15

Surely the REALLY forward-thinking thing to do is to have the trans women racing in the men’s races, dressed and identifying however they like.

Part of the issue here is that most of these people would not qualify for men's sport at a higher or elite level even pre transition treatment. Which is all the more galling.

They most likely would never be any kind of professional athlete in the category of their sex. A handful were successful before transitioning but the majority could be considered mediocre until they identified out of that.

LuvSmallDogs · 15/10/2018 21:16

With drugs tests being more and more rigorous, it’s nice for mediocre XY athletes to have the loophole to dope down rather than up, so they can win the women’s category rather than failing to qualify for the men’s. Smile

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 21:22

Below is a description of the Williams sisters competing against a man who ranked 203rd. They felt they could beat any man outside of the 200 ranking but upon being beaten by some margin they had to adjust that to outside of rank 350.

Imagine what is going to happen to women's tennis if a few mediocre male players self identify.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Sexes_(tennis)#1998:_Karsten_Braasch_vs._the_Williams_sisters

1998: Karsten Braasch vs. the Williams sisters[edit]
Another event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open[52] between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple bottles of ice cold lager".[53][52] The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park,[54] after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two shandies. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.[55] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun".[56] Braasch said the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier, and that men put spin on the ball that the women can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350.[52]

MiddlingMum · 15/10/2018 21:25

You shouldn't be able to compete in women's sport unless you have XX chromosomes. Anything else is a total biological nonsense.
