I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

every time I went out.
what is it with people having to be constantly Slurping!

the world cannot cope with all the rubbish this causes.

OP posts:

Agree with the OP. It’s entirely unnecessary to walk around with a drink in your hand.

GloomyMonday · 16/10/2018 21:35

Lots of things unnecessary but enjoyable none-the-less

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/10/2018 22:20

Ah, so by activewear you mean trackies and trainers. That’s been in fashion for the last 30 year here! Grin

And don’t forget the shell suits of the 80s.

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 22:29

CurlyhairedAssassin
Not quite. It's a certain type/style of gym clothes. It's hard to explain.

So you know the grey trackies tucked into white socks look and the velour trackies in pastel colours (a la Paris hilton) were a distinct 'look'? Same with the more recent activewear trend.

It's obviously exaggerated but sort of like this

(Sent to me by a friend because of my love of leggings and hoodies)

There are definitely some competitive water drinkers around.

eddiemairswife · 17/10/2018 09:56

shredded It's on Mumsnet that people tell you how much to drink and what colour your wee should be.

SchrodingersMeowth · 17/10/2018 10:06

I have a feeding tube (can’t really eat but can drink but can only drink small amounts at a time so I’m always holding one really) and have a suprapubic catheter because of bladder issues and facing urostomy and a couple of blood clots. I also have postural tachycardia and low blood pressure issues and other reasons that I have to/want to drink a lot, such as high doses of painkillers and other medicines that make me have an extremely dry mouth. I look totally normal most of the time though.

You can’t know anyone’s reasons and tbh they don’t even need a reason apart from they want to. Confused

LuvSmallDogs · 17/10/2018 10:08

People wearing gym style clothing for everyday wear is hardly new - remember those trackie bottoms with pointless metal poppers up the legs being cool?

Fabrics used for gym wear are usually comfortable, so it’s hardly weird for people to like wearing them, and for certain styles to become more mainstream rather than only for fitness fanatics.

ferrier · 17/10/2018 11:11

Pointless metal poppers? 🤣
They're there for people who actual use the tracksuit bottoms for their intended purpose, so they're easy to get on and off over trainers. Usually zips these days though I favour yoga bottoms!

SchrodingersMeowth · 17/10/2018 11:22

Those strange trackies are a bigish thing and in Primark again... I imagine they’re very useful for a lot of people who are disabled but I can’t see why anyone else would want them.

Each to their own though!

ferrier · 17/10/2018 13:09

Are you still talking about trackies with poppers at the bottom?

AlexanderHamilton · 17/10/2018 14:17

I've not seen them with poppers but dd's have zips on them. They make it easier to get them on and off (she wears them over the top of her dance kit between classes and during the warm up).

BitOutOfPractice · 17/10/2018 14:22

Yes, those trackies are useful if you need to take them off / put them on without removing trainers ie what tracksuits are actually for in the first place

Joinourclub · 17/10/2018 14:26

People used to walk around with a fag in their hand, I definitely didn’t understand that. Constant coffee drinking seems to be a better habit.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/10/2018 14:29

Yes. People seem to need to breathe all the time too nowadays. Why can't they just wait and breathe their own air at home? It's just a fad all this public breathing. It annoys me a lot. In the old days the British weren't just out and about breathing willy nilly. Too busy being stoic and wearing tweed. Now everyone is just breathing whenever they feel like it. Society gone to the dogs. The dogs I tell ya!

Gooseygoosey12345 · 17/10/2018 14:46

Sure, I'll stop eating and drinking while I'm out and collapse just to make you happy 🙄 why do you care? I have a health issue so I have to eat and drink regularly, but even if I didn't I think it's ridiculous that your whinging about this! I use reusable cups so what exactly is your problem? Really sorry I don't have time to sit around every time I need a drink, not that I can see what difference it makes if I'm sitting or walking. You're literally moaning about people having a drink, it's mad. In all the years I've been on mumsnet I've never given a biscuit, but here have my first one. Ffs

wink1970 · 17/10/2018 14:47

I get consumed with rage at people who bring coffee onto packed standing-room-only commuter trains.

At least once a month you see some poor sole drenched when the train jolts (me twice last year).

limitedperiodonly · 17/10/2018 15:02

Where on earth do you hang out where people talk openly about the colour of their wee and brag about how much water they've drunk, a urology clinic?

ShreddedBanksy women's magazines. I've also heard serious discussions about 'bum-cheek overhang' and 'saddlebag thighs' as if these are medical conditions.

SoyDora · 17/10/2018 15:06

Women’s magazines aren’t real life though are they? Has anyone heard groups of women talking about the colour of their pee in real life?!

limitedperiodonly · 17/10/2018 15:11

People seem to need to breathe all the time too nowadays. Why can't they just wait and breathe their own air at home?

That's not a million miles away from angry threads on Mumsnet about vaping BitOutofPractice.

I don't find breathing in someone's fruit-flavoured exhalations to be particularly pleasant but I am surprised by the people who've apparently never noticed before that they are breathing the same air as everyone else.

limitedperiodonly · 17/10/2018 15:30

What do you mean it's not real life SoyDore? I'm a journalist not a unicorn tamer.

When I go to work there are desks and chairs and computers and phones and stationery. There are set hours for which they pay me money and take tax and NI. There are coat pegs, toilets and a small kitchen with microwaves, a fridge and that water dispenser.

That sounds like real life to me but maybe you've never come across such an unusual working environment.

SoyDora · 17/10/2018 15:58

I assumed you meant it was talked about in women’s magazines. I.e. in print. Not in the offices of women’s magazines. Apologies, my bad.

SoyDora · 17/10/2018 15:59

But yeah, snide sarcasm always goes down well when someone has made a mistake in interpreting something. Well done.
