I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

You clearly have never done anything like teaching that involves a lot of talking. It’s very thirsty work and plays havoc with your vocal chords. I do a lot of classroom-based professional training and NEED to sip a drink a lot, as do all of my colleagues. Get a grip and find something worthwhile to get anxty about!

EmperorTomatoRetchup · 15/10/2018 14:19

I hope all the anti-drinkers are only having sex as frequently as their Grandma's too

My Nan is still having regular sex at 96. Unfortunately my granddad lives at 43 on the same road.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2018 14:23

Well plenty of sex for you then. Poor Grandad, I dint think I'd want to live on the same road as my ex

Designer water bottle/cardboard cup of designer label coffee - check.

What is designer label coffee?

Delatron · 15/10/2018 15:38

Seriously since when was a Costa coffee a status symbol? Designer label coffee? Ridiculous.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 15:44

I do think there is a bit of a 'running around with your cup of coffee because you are just like soooooooo busy and important' thing, I see it quite a lot amongst the school run mums. Just have one when you get home or when you get to work.

As for a water bottle, I do quite like to have one on me to sip from, but it's almost psychological for me.

Pinkerbells · 15/10/2018 15:51

Little judgy OP. some people need to constantly be drinking. Trust me, my concoction of tablets leave my mouth drier than a cats arse. I always have a drink on me, but I don't wear a sign to explain it. Mind your own

derxa · 15/10/2018 15:58

We live busier lives now than we used to and hydration is important.
Oh God. I agree OP. The waste created by all those disposable cups and plastic bottles is dreadful. I used to be a teacher and fecking water bottles were a nightmare. Only on very hot summer days were they necessary.

LuvSmallDogs · 15/10/2018 16:10

I love the idea that my massive handbag containing a change mat, nappies and wipes plus my refillable water bottle is to make me look like a celebrity - I look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards 99% of the time. There was me thinking it was thirsty work pushing a three year old round in a buggy while 7 months pregnant.

CaptSkippy · 15/10/2018 16:24

That's assuming those school mums are in fact going home after dropping off their kids.

Loopytiles · 15/10/2018 16:41

Coffee improves the school run IME.

MNMH · 15/10/2018 16:45

Ridiculous leaps in logic here. Sad how some people LOOK for negativity even in the most minute activity. Guess they're not busy enough or lead such unfulfilling lives that they search for trivial things to snark at in order to occupy their minds.
If something like this bothers you (and it's obviously not because you're concerned about the environment, let's be real) then YOU are the problem. Y'all must walk around annoyed at lame bullshit all the time. What a sad way to live.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/10/2018 16:59

Do we really lead busier lives now though? We might be rushing to places, but we certainly have many time and labour saving devices.

It's not like many of us labour down the mines or have to cook, clean and wash to the point of complete physical exhaustion.

abacucat · 15/10/2018 17:03

We do not live busier lives than 20 years ago.

abacucat · 15/10/2018 17:07

In fact it can be easier now as we can do online banking and shopping.

1forAll74 · 15/10/2018 17:10

I don't care what people eat, drink,or carry whilst walking down the streets. It always makes me laugh when you see lots of people on a street, mostly carrying water bottles.or cartons of coffee, and maybe eating junk food, and of course everyone with a mobile phone attached to them..A bit like robots, or armies of ants, all doing the same thing.

ohshitonit · 15/10/2018 17:17

I am cringing at the nastiness here. Its a bit creepy that you all notice that strangers are holding coffee or water! Are you that bored? I have 3 under 3 and I have a massive fuck off bag full of all their stuff and am often drinking something because I am exhausted and dehydrated. Who gives a shiny shit about 40 years ago? Things are more accessible now, im thirsty, ill have a pissing drink! And yeah if I do the school run and I'm shattered from the 12.5 hour shift I just did last night ill have a bloody coffee too. I never realised anyone would notice, it's soooo weird!

eddiemairswife · 15/10/2018 17:32

Change in language.........once upon a time people just got thirsty, now they get dehydrated. In fact they seem to get dehydrated before they get thirsty.

abacucat · 15/10/2018 17:42

This all started from a made up tip in a beauty magazine which said you had to drink so many litres a day. Other beauty magazines picked up on it and said that you had to drink a lot of water to be healthy. It is wrong. How much you should drink depends on your activity level, the weather, what you eat, and any medical conditions. Most people are perfectly healthy drinking a drink 4-6 times a day like we all used to.

Lillithxxx · 15/10/2018 17:49

How easy it is on here to become mortally offended.

It's obvious at least part of this is motivated by jealousy from those who only leave the house for the school run and the weekly trip to ASDA.

Of course, it's the only explanation.

ohshitonit · 15/10/2018 18:41

Well what else is the explanation? Some people on this thread clearly do not stay out of the house and literally just do the school run and go home, however some of us are actually busy and haven't drank in hours. It's bizarre to be bothered by others drinking, it must be jealousy. It's definitely jealousy from the strange person who said "designer coffee labels", errr it's frigging coffee and water? Not designer.

limitedperiodonly · 15/10/2018 18:44

I know abacucat. These are the competitive water drinkers I endure at work.

It started out with eight glasses a day - about 2 l. There's no reason for that figure. You could need less or you might need more. It depends what your activity levels are or medical conditions.

Then people started upping it. And then saying that if you drank tea, coffee or alcohol, even if it was half a shandy, you had to drink even more water.

They have no medical or dietetic qualifications whatsoever. They are just flaky beauty and fashion writers with sometimes quite questionable habits - for instance, drinking lots of water suppresses your appetite or at least takes the edge of hunger pangs. But people believe them and their claims of clear skin and eyes and glossy teeth.
