I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

And you can tell this about a total stranger carrying coffee/water how?
If it bothers you, that's YOUR problem. To attribute all this nonsense to someone you don't even know is beyond ridiculous. All this concern trolling because you don't like the daily habits of other people, to frame it as worrying about the environment or their mental health is 100% bonkers. Just admit you like to feel superior to people who do things you don't like to do and maybe you'd have a modicum of respectability for being honest.

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 07:12

And you can tell this about a total stranger carrying coffee/water how?
I didn't say that. It was a comment exploring a shift in attitudes and cultures based on something a poster mentioned.
As in the language people use to talk about normal things has changed in places and even normal things like a spot of thirst are framed by some as dying of dehydration.

And before another poster had mentioned changes in language and culture, I'd said this earlier in the thread:
Personally I have no issue of people eating and drinking on the go. I do it myself at times.I do personally find the culture of endless eating, snacking, drinking to be a tad annoying and part of this culture of 'busy'.
I don't spend ages judging individuals, but do have my own feelings about the culture.

No concern trolling at all.

JassyRadlett · 16/10/2018 07:18

I don't care what people eat, drink,or carry whilst walking down the streets. It always makes me laugh when you see lots of people on a street, mostly carrying water bottles.or cartons of coffee, and maybe eating junk food, and of course everyone with a mobile phone attached to them..A bit like robots, or armies of ants, all doing the same thing.

‘I don’t care, yet somehow I allow it to take up an awful lot of my headspace and take the time to judge strangers on what they carry. But I don’t care. Oh no.’

MNMH · 16/10/2018 07:23

MaisyPops
Yeah, but that statement still smacks of judgment and superiority. You're calling people annoying and assumimg they're trying to pretend to be busy. Trust me, no one is trying to impress you. They're just trying to get through their day, while you're turning your nose up at them, bravely tolerating their uncouth behaviour in which you'd dare not participate.
This "culture" thing is made-up B.S. And are people really doing this "endlessly" around you, or are you exaggerating to prove your point? So needlessly negative towards people for something so innocuous. I'm really baffled as to why this bothers some people so much.

MNMH · 16/10/2018 07:26

JassyRadlett
It's like they want a medal for not participating in the behaviours of the unwashed masses, that they're better than everyone else. Hmm

ohshitonit · 16/10/2018 07:32

@MNMH that's exactly it.

I've tried to explain this thread to my husband and he is so confused that anyone thinks like this..

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 07:35

MNMH
I find the culture of non stop snacking and eating annoying. Personal preference.
bravely tolerating their uncouth behaviour in which you'd dare not participate.
Umm what?
A couple of minutes ago I quoted my own post where I said I sometimes grab something to go.
Time to bow out here. Confused

MNMH · 16/10/2018 07:38

MaisyPops
Sorry. I did overlook that. But you still sounded pretty judgmental overall. Oh well.

limitedperiodonly · 16/10/2018 14:36

You're just making really weird assumptions

No I think you'll find it's you that's making weird assumptions MNNH

Where do you get the idea that I glare at people or want to knock things out of their hands? Do you often make things up? It's hard to hold a conversation with someone who imagines false scenarios.

It's you that's angry. People do things that annoy me, as I'm sure I do things that annoy them. But if it's not hurting me I let them get on with it and come to a thread on Mumsnet to moan about it.

Is that okay with you? Actually, as you said, I don't give two shits about what you think.

Mia1415 · 16/10/2018 14:39

I always have a bottle of water with me. I get a headache very quickly if I don't drink enough.

I don't think I've ever bought a takeaway coffee or tea however.

OftenHangry · 16/10/2018 15:18

Common enemy makes for best friends sooo.Grin
I propose we all concentrate on really IMPORTANT issue of...

People chewing chewing gums EXTREMELY loudly with open mouth and spit them on the pathway later.

MNMH · 16/10/2018 15:21

limitedperiodonly
Not angry. Just baffled as to why people let the actions of someone minding their own business make them so judgmental.
I mean, you're ok to attribute all sorts of strange assumptions about total strangers, but look what happens when the tables are turned. Btw - what I said was sarcasm.

bringincrazyback · 16/10/2018 15:22

I don't understand the modern obsession with coffee at all, but there's no downside to drinking plenty of water, in fact it's essential to health.

Also bear in mind that some medications cause a very dry mouth. I always carry a bottle of water for that exact reason.

HungryForSnacks · 16/10/2018 15:53

I've never heard of water being 'trendy'. People drink water when they get thirsty. What am I missing here?!

What a bizarre thread

limitedperiodonly · 16/10/2018 16:34

MNMH WTF are you talking about 'tables being turned'?

Why do you keep accusing me of making assumptions when you are the person who has made stuff up about me and my motives and my perceived actions?

Making stuff up is not sarcasm. It's making stuff up.

I mentioned a particular thing that irritates me at my place of work which I've solved by bringing in a small bottle of water to drink until the queue dies down.

Everything I said about discussions of the colour of wee, the need to flush our kidneys of toxins and competitive water drinking: 'Do you only drink 2ltr? I drink 4ltr' , is faithfully reported from my time spent behind these idiots.

I don't care much because I have solved my specific problem. I have no opinion on people carrying water or coffee in anything but those narrow circumstances that affect me in my office. But you seem to care a lot.

Hideandgo · 16/10/2018 17:27

Water isn’t trendy Hungry. Water in sports bottle permanently in hand while walking around dressed in activewear is trendy. It’s a trend. Nothing sinister but clearly mildly irritating to some people.

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 17:57

OftenHangry
I'd say I agree and would also add on loud chomping but I might get into trouble and told I have issues for so much as having a view. Grin

Hideandgo
I love activewear. The piss taking song about people who wear activewear not at the gym hits a little too close to home for me. Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/10/2018 18:00

What the frig is “activewear”?

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 18:11

Gym clothes usually.

But some fashion lines have brought out gym style clothing which is never meant to see the gym. It's all about looking sporty often by people who do no or very little sport. It's also called athleisure clothing (which is a bit pretentious).

I tend to live in my gym clothes more than is reasonable more often than not due to laziness because I actually do exercise regularly but some people wear active clothing who never exercise and it's been a bit of a trend.

ohshitonit · 16/10/2018 19:35

@Maisypops unfortunately I don't think you know what is on trend.

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 19:39

unfortunately I don't think you know what is on trend.
It was a trend. There were loads of memes and piss take videos about it as well at the time. Even hide said it.

I love my gymwear anyway. Don't like the fashion gym clothes.

JessieLemon · 16/10/2018 19:42

Activewear was recently/is very on trend ohshit. Maisy is right.

timeisnotaline · 16/10/2018 20:38

Activewear! ohshit is being really rude. I activewear sometimes, it makes me feel like I might exercise at any moment, but of course I won’t Grin

tiggerkid · 16/10/2018 20:43

I personally think that it's great to see people becoming more aware of the benefits of staying hydrated and also so many of them carrying reusable coffee cups and refillable water bottles. I'd say generally most Western Europeans are very environmentally friendly.

MaisyPops · 16/10/2018 20:53

I saw a lovely top which would have been perfect for throwing on post gym session... then i saw it had some twee shitty slogan on it like 'Gym?!!? Oh I thought you said gin!' So put it back grumbling about how nothing is sacred any more and stupud prosecco and gin slogans get everywhere. Grin
