Hello :)

I'm just curious really - I was talking to a friend and said I was hoping to be in my old clothes 3 months after the birth - it's my first baby and I'm naturally very slim, the only weight I've gained in the pregnancy is basically bump/baby. She said I was BU and that it would take at least 12 months! I know losing the weight really isn't the be all and end all but just for my own reasons really I'd love to be in a situation by then where my pre pregnancy clothes would fit (unless of course I have a c sect or very difficult birth that means I can't actually get out for walks and stuff for a while!)

I guess my question is am I being unrealistic? Interested to hear everyone else's stories?!

Within a week I was back in my old clothes (size 8), I was 17. But you never know!

AdorableMisfit · 08/10/2018 10:40

My DS is 9 months on Wednesday and I still can't do up my pre-pregnancy jeans. But I've not really been trying to lose weight. My husband has been working abroad and I've been on my own with 2 kids and DS sleeps really poorly so I've been eating A LOT of sugary stuff to get myself through the days.

I was back in my jeans the day after I got home from hospital at 8 days after birth. Like you, I only really put on the baby and associated 'stuff' as weight! I couldn't be bothered with them though for a few weeks, I was knackered and sore and just wanted to wear comfy clothes like leggings as much as possible. I think I first wore them out at 13 days. I hadn't actually lost all the weight (still haven't at 13months and now 3 months pregnant with baby 2 so don't think I'll be losing it any time soon!) but the jeans and all my other clothes fitted anyway, no idea how! If you haven't put loads of weight on, which I think is luck more than anything, I certainly didn't do anything special, then it doesn't take long to get back into your clothes. Also, a week long stay in hospital on hospital food that they take away if you happen to be away from your bed as you are on the NICU ward trying to feed your newborn during dinner time (not bitter!) helps, but I wouldn't recommend it!

Cachailleacha · 08/10/2018 10:43

After showering the day I gave birth. Then bled through them so put a hospital gown back on. Had worn them through pregnancy with the button undone though.

InertPotato · 08/10/2018 10:46

It took me about two weeks each time, but I was fairly young (30, 33), naturally thin and had the most atrocious night sweats. And I EBF'd.

Redgreencoverplant · 08/10/2018 10:46

About 4 weeks but then we hit the four month sleep regression and I survived on cake for about a year so quickly grew out of them again! Just getting back down to where I want to be now DS is 2.5

harrietm87 · 08/10/2018 10:52

Wow this is depressing. I was 61kg pre pregnancy and 83kg the day I gave birth. Despite ebf, lots of walking and healthy eating I’m 70kg at 6 months so still 9kg to go. I was a slim 10 and now a fat 12. Hoping I’ll lose the rest when I stop breastfeeding.

BooMare · 08/10/2018 10:54

5 days

littlepeas · 08/10/2018 10:55

I had 3 in quick succession, so the in-betweens are a bit of a blur, but I was back to the size/weight I was before getting pregnant with dc1 4 months after having dc3. I was fairly young - 29 when I had my youngest - and a 10/12 with curves! I gained a lot of weight while pregnant all 3 times, despite taking good care of myself - I think a lot of it was water retention tbh and it flew off with bf.

juneau · 08/10/2018 10:58

About 3 months each time, but I EBF and I was one of those lucky people for whom that meant the weight just melted off. I gained 40lbs with each of my pregnancies, so I had a fair bit to lose, but it came off quite quickly, despite me just sitting on the sofa feeding and pottering around town with a pram.

LaurieMarlow · 08/10/2018 10:59

It's so unpredictable. I know mums who were back in pp jeans the day after delivery and mums who aren't back several years later.

For me, DS1 about 13 months. I didn't lose the last 10 pounds until I stopped bf (though it fell off at that point).

With DS2 I'm already back in (as of yesterday) 4 months post partum. I've no idea why losing the weight was easier this time. I had far more to lose, so that's interesting.

I remember being super excited when I was back in pre pregnancy leggings. DH was keen to point out this isn't the same thing at all. Grin

HavelockVetinari · 08/10/2018 11:00

I left hospital in them, but I did have severe morning sickness so gained nothing except the weight of the baby. I was also very active throughout pregnancy, lots of cycling and running.

crispysausagerolls · 08/10/2018 11:00

Christ 3 months later and I can button them but they are so tight that if I moved a muscle they would burst at the seams!!! Still wearing maternity jeans although they are far too big, but not prepared to buy a between size as I think that’s giving up! I was a 6-8 pre-pregnancy and assumed I would be back in within 3 months what with the breastfeeding but don’t appear to be losing weight at all. It does upset me but I do think you need to be gentle on yourself and accept things will go back to normal slowly (potentially - some people here have pinged back!) but that it’s ok because you have a baby who you love and your body has worked hard to make and deliver the baby. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway 😭😭😭

MakeMineALarge1 · 08/10/2018 11:01

Can't remember with my first, but with my 2nd it was less than 4 weeks,
I put them on for a laugh thinking I wouldn't get them over my knees and on they went!

CatsCatsCats11 · 08/10/2018 11:02

Lots of nausea I lost weight and had to buy new smaller ones afterwards Blush

Bumbledop · 08/10/2018 11:02

11 years Grin honestly!

elQuintoConyo · 08/10/2018 11:08

I was 61kg booking in. 68kg booking out. DS was 4.8kg. I was all bump.

My hips grew, my ribcage grew, my feet went up 1.5 sizes. I have a 7yo, i'm still not back to 61kg.

And IDGAF! I have a healthy happy slightly nutty little boy who lovrs rugby and talking to his teddy. My husband isn't an asshat and hasn't commented on my size - and i was 53kg when we met Grin i also don't have friends who are obsessed with it, either.

Getting back to pre-baby weight has honestly been the very last thing on my mind.

laurG · 08/10/2018 11:11

Bit long. 4 weeks or so.bany only partially breastfed so don’t think it was that. I just didn’t put on much weight. I had a really compact and tight bump and my stomach was really squished. Didn’t want to eat that much-especially in third trimester.

Goldangel · 08/10/2018 11:15

First baby back in my jeans week 4, I had just turned 35. My 2nd at 38 took a lot longer, maybe 4-6 months or so.

I don’t get how some women’s midriffs can look so good post more than one baby, even though I am slim, my stomach is a wrinkly mess 😬

MrsCar · 08/10/2018 11:16

DC1 a year
DC2 3 months
DC3 about 2 weeks

I was a size 12/14 for the first two and size 8-10 for the 3rd.
I went on a lifestyle change/diet before his pregnancy and never put the weight back on

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 08/10/2018 11:17

About two months

9nine · 08/10/2018 11:17

NC as I’d out myself as not many people had 9.

1st, 8 days - I was tiny and only 18, 2nd 2 months, 3rd 2 months, 4th 2 months, 5th 3 months, 6th 5 months, 7th 6 months, 8th 4 months and 9th 5 months. That was back to my normal size 8 jeans each time.

anitagreen · 08/10/2018 11:19

The next day thankfully when I'm pregnant I lose weight my first I was 13stone9 I went to 11.stone 3. My second I was nearly 14 stone and I dropped to 11st.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 08/10/2018 11:20

DC1, within a week. I was 24, had had a very active pregnancy, only gained the baby bump, blah blah. The first year or so with him was great in that respect - I was basically mainlining chocolate, slim and toned from hoiking a baby around everywhere.

DC2... within three months. I was 30 and they were bigger pre-pregnancy jeans than the ones I was in pre-DC1! She is now 6 months and I'm getting back to where I was pre-DC1, but I'm totally expecting that to change once I'm back at work, fuelling myself on cake etc. It's taken effort this time though - partly some calorie restriction because I want to be slimmer than I had become in the years since having my first, partly because my abs separated and so making time for sensible exercise to help my core recover became functionally very important and has now basically formed a habit.

funinthesun18 · 08/10/2018 11:21

I gave birth to my 4th nearly two weeks ago and back in my jeans. Everyone is different.
