To think I’ve accidentally brought from someone dodgy??

I went to view some Pomeranian puppies a few week ago and put a deposit on the one I fell in love with. Everything seemed legit, the guy selling them answered all my questions and was happy to be paid by a bank transfer so nothing rang any bells.

Since then though I have found another ad for a completely different litter of Pomeranian puppjes, I’d found my puppy I wanted by then so usually wouldn’t have looked but something was telling me to open the ad but now I wish I hadn’t as i can’t stop thinking of the worse case scenario.

When I opened the ad the rug stood out me and I couldn’t work out why until I realised it’s the same rugs they had in the house when I viewed my puppies, the more I scrolled through I started to think it’s actually the same place! Then I done a little digging and found out the person who I went to see and the person posting the ad have the same surname! The puppies will also be ready to leave within only a few days if each other.

Now, there is a reason why it may just be a coincidence (??) When I say house, they actually lived in some fancy kind of mobile home in a place where there are hundreds of the same kind of mobile home so it’s entirely possible that the inside would have have the same sort of flooring and kitchen and as they’re related they also had the same rugs and dog bed.

I am just not sure though. Have i been completely oblivious and too trusting and brought from someone dodgy? :( How do I even go about finding out. I pick my pup up on Friday so I just do not know what to do now!!! 😫

OP if you feel this is not the right puppy for you, for whatever reason, the owners should have no qualms about paying your money back and keeping the puppy for the right home.
If you don't think they will let you have the money back, then there's your answer about whether they are reputable or not.

Hoppinggreen · 08/10/2018 16:04

Our dog is KC reg, as were both his “parents”
He’s from a puppy farm

Onehellofaride · 08/10/2018 16:18

I might be wrong but is it not unusual for the puppy to have been microchipped but not vaccinated?

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 16:25

That's why everything else is really important too, Hopping.

KC registration is just ONE thing someone buying a puppy needs to look for.

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/10/2018 16:32

A puppy would normally have had their first vaccinations shortly before they come home with you. You are responsible for the second set about two weeks later.
Seeing both parents suggests a backyard breeder to me.
Are there any specific health testing required for Poms? If so, did you ask if the parents had been tested and for proof they were clear?

LizB62A · 08/10/2018 16:35

There's nothing accidental about this, it's just sheer laziness and wanting to get a bargain by not going to a proper breeder.

Anyone who buys from these thinly disguised animal farms isn't saving any animals, so don't delude yourself into thinking you're doing a good, kind thing.
You're just lining their pockets and encouraging them to breed even more puppies/kittens etc.

Adopt, don't shop!!

adaline · 08/10/2018 16:39

It’s very unlikely a puppy will come with their vaccinations unless it’s an older puppy.

Incorrect.

Most come with their first set of jabs at eight weeks and you get the second lot two weeks later.

WindyWednesday · 08/10/2018 16:43

I’ve never seen the father. Only the Mum. Why would the father be there? Most breeders use a dog, pay stud fees and that’s that part done. Then you see the KC paperwork and can see the family line.

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 17:13

Poms should have hip and eye scores at the very least, and if possible heart checks too.

sorryimgettingemotional · 08/10/2018 17:14

There's nothing accidental about this, it's just sheer laziness and wanting to get a bargain by not going to a proper breeder.

Hardly a bargain when I’m paying almost 3 grand for her. I had no idea they weren’t legit as everything checked out until I got home and looked deeper.

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 17:16

3 grand for a Pom???

You've most definitely been had. The country's best breeders don't charge three grand for one of their well bread, KC Registered and endorsed puppies with health checked parents.

You're buying an unregistered puppy with no endorsements, no health tested parents and no support. You may as well be buying a mongrel.

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 17:17

Bred, obviously. Stupid iPad Grin

Lovemusic33 · 08/10/2018 17:17

3 grand? For a dog that hasn’t got both parents with papers?

sorryimgettingemotional · 08/10/2018 17:20

I meant 2 grand, I’m paying £1700.

I thought I did my research but looks like I’m going to have to back out and just hope I get my deposit back then.

Carlyrichards · 08/10/2018 17:20

£3.000? Please rethink OP

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 17:20

It has to be a joke, surely?

Carlyrichards · 08/10/2018 17:21

£1700 is still a massive amount of money

ProfessorMoody · 08/10/2018 17:21

Even 2k is ridiculous OP. Your dog that could well be a crossbreed isn't worth anything more than what a shelter would charge, and you'll probably end up paying hundreds in vet fees when it inevitably gets I'll.

WindyWednesday · 08/10/2018 17:28

I wouldn’t collect or pay for the pup. It’s only heartbreak down the road when the pup becomes ill and costs you £££ vets bills.

sorryimgettingemotional · 08/10/2018 17:33

Well thanks for the replies guys, clearly I’ve been very stupid here.

I’m messaged the seller to let him know my worries and will most likely be choosing not to collect her anymore.

Very sad, she was such a beautiful girl but I guess it’s my fault for being so naive Confused I’ll make sure to research better next time.

That amount of money is extortionate for a pup.
I'm not sure if you can compare breeds but my puppy came from a show background where both parents were multiple winners within the breed club.
Both clear of the genetic disorder affecting the breed, kc reg, raised in a genuine home environment by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic couple.
They had a very experienced mentor who helped them and our pup was £850. And I don't think that they made much money if at all from the litter.
A clear question to a breeder would be "why are you doing this?"

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/10/2018 17:38

@sorryimgettingemotional come over to the Doghouse when you are ready, lots of lovely people who will help you work out the right type of dog for you and how to avoid the bad people.

puppymouse · 08/10/2018 17:45

Another here with one from a long line of crufts winners. Had to wait nearly two years on a list. Breeder was scary as fuck about us not being allowed to breed from him, having him back if we split up or couldn't keep him anymore. And he came vaccinated, insured etc. Breeders were KC registered and very well thought of. It's also a large breed.

He was £850.

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 08/10/2018 17:51

Re vacations / chipping

Selling an unchipped puppy is illegal and would raise an eyebrow but unvaccinated wouldn’t.
That’s generally down to individual breeders, puppies should be vaccinated around 8 weeks doesn’t matter if it’s the breeder or new owner that takes them for those vaccinations.

FinnegansWhiskers · 08/10/2018 17:59

I am in no way suggesting you buy from pers4homes. I have just had a look at pomerian puppies. The last two that have been added seconds ago are priced at £800 and £495. Obviously puppy farmers so don't buy from there. Just wanted to see the going price for poms. Nowhere near £3k! Cut your losses OP and look at some registered KC breeders.
