To ask what temp your house is?

This is an annual argument for us starting around this time of yr.

The central heating is set at 20 degrees. The thermometer in the hall reads 72 degrees Fahrenheit. I am a bit warm but I can cope just about with a light skirt and t shirt on. DH is cold and is wearing a long sleeved t shirt with a chunky jumper and fleece lounge trousers, socks and slippers.

I know he is cold. But he insists that the house is cold whilst I maintain it isn't. 72 degrees just isn't cold is it? When he is at work I have the windows open for air flow but when he is home he has them closed and turns the heating up.

How can he be cold? Why is he cold? And do others have this problem? He is retiring soon and will want to spend Jan-March with the heating up and the windows closed all the time Confused and I will feel suffocated. Anyone else reached a successful compromise?

Heatings not on yet. I hate how stuffy it gets and end up opening a window. But once it's really cold I put it on 18.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 08/10/2018 01:35

I would freeze to death in all pf your houses! Our min temp is 21 degrees but i often turn it up to 23! Im always cold

HappenedForAReisling · 08/10/2018 01:54

Currently 22. It goes between 22 and 24. At 24 the windows get opened.

We have a wood stove and it's heating the entire house (a little too well).

Ariela · 08/10/2018 02:00

Ours is set below 15, the heating won't come on at all this side of Christmas, it's a warm house so unlikely to have got below 18-19 so far. if we're cold we just put another layer on.

AhoyDelBoy · 08/10/2018 02:10

House is naturally around 30 degrees Celsius as we start spring. Will go up to nearer 40-43 degrees come summer 😱

No matter how many fans we have going it just won’t cook down and we don’t have air conditioning (why it wasn’t installed when it was built I have NO idea 🤯)

The temperature does drop down to around 20 degrees at night which is nice. DP will be all rigged up at that temperature though whereas I find it lovely.

Lucky for us there’s no argument to be had as we can’t do anything about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

AhoyDelBoy · 08/10/2018 02:12

Won’t cool down
All rugged up
🤦🏼‍♀️

Perfectly1mperfect · 08/10/2018 02:23

Our thermostat is set to 22 or 23 at the moment. We feel the cold and would be freezing in most of your houses. I don't like to wear loads of layers though. The kids are always warm whatever the weather....sometimes I think they can't be related to us ! 😂 Newish house, well insulated.

Togaandsandals · 08/10/2018 02:48

My parents had such different responses to temperatures. My dear dad felt the cold so much, my mum didn’t. My dad would sit in a separate little room with a little heater to watch the tv but then missed my mum!

RedneckStumpy · 08/10/2018 02:51

Ours is set at 16 during the day and 12 at night.

KinCat · 08/10/2018 02:55

DH always liked to set the heating for one hour in the evening and one in the morning so our house was always freezing! I got used to it eventually and now I hate overly hot houses, much prefer a cold house and wearing warm clothes.

Now we live in the tropics and it's always hot. We have the air con on over night at 22° (if I remember right).

LikeLemondrops · 08/10/2018 02:58

Ours is set at 19 when I'm in with the dc and then Dh turns it up to 21 when he is in for the evening. I think that is too warm, so usually knock it back down to 18/19 overnight, when Dh gets up in the morning he turns it back up... of the joys of the thermostat wars Grin😂

FrenchFancie · 08/10/2018 04:07

We don’t have central heating. I live in Cyprus and in summer internally it’s usually over 30, it’s cooling off right now so average internal is about 25 in the day time. In winter we struggle to heat the place and it gets to about 16-18. I came back to the uk briefly in January this year and found all the insides far too hot! You all have your heating set to high in winter, the contrast between inside and outside is massive!!

DunesOfSand · 08/10/2018 04:17

Might be worth getting a separate thermometer to see what the temperature actually is. 72 is about 22C I think. I'd say if he's dressed in all that at 20C (or higher), it might be worth a trip to the GP. imo, Feeling permanently cold should be checked out.

I can't really help with the temperature, as we cool to 25C. At that point we are all pottering around in shorts and teeshirt. When I first arrived, it had to be more like 23 for me to not be a sweaty mess just sitting inside. Slowly we've been able to reduce electricity usage and increase the temp.

Mummadeeze · 08/10/2018 06:10

22-23

monkeysox · 08/10/2018 06:26

Omg the bills for having heatin on all night Confused
It must be a fortune.
Timer twice morning and evening so warm when get up and warm when come in from work. 18-20 degrees
If staying in have it on longer

Mia184 · 08/10/2018 06:28

23 degress Celsius

Mia184 · 08/10/2018 06:31

*degrees!
Though the bedroom is a bit cooler - I don't like to sleep in overly warm rooms.
I have floor heating which needs a very long time to warm up; I started it last week and will keep it on.

AuntBeastie · 08/10/2018 06:31

Ours is set at 21. I quite often feel cold if sitting for a while but I get a blanket if I am rather than turning up the heating.

Donthugmeimscared · 08/10/2018 06:40

We haven't turned our heating on yet as being on a pre paid meter I hate watching the money count down. The children and I are just wearing lots of jumpers and dressing gowns.

MongerTruffle · 08/10/2018 06:41

25 degrees

BeardedMum · 08/10/2018 06:42

18 usually but its not on yet and the windows still open.

speakout · 08/10/2018 06:46

I don't have a set temperature for heating.

It depends who is at home and what we are doing.
If I am just back from the gym and hoovering/changing sheets I am happy at 16 degrees.
If I am tired/ having a lazy day then I like 22 degrees.
I have big windows that capture sunlight so anyone sitting behind the glass will be warm even though the rest of the house is coldish.

People feel cold or warm at different temperatures, I think there are several factors- age, body fat, activity levels.

TheEverywhereBear · 08/10/2018 06:53

22 degrees during the day. We turn it down to 16 at night.

donquixotedelamancha · 08/10/2018 06:53

Our heating is set to 293k. Your DH should wear a jumper.

BarbedBloom · 08/10/2018 07:03

We won’t have the heating on for a while yet as our house is fairly warm, but usually set around 18-20
