to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

Lagertha yes! Have you noticed that legging wearers focus on how they feel.

Legging haters focus on how ugly, nasty, cheap, negative the woman wearing them looks! Unalluring, unsexy? I am wearing them for work Smile

DaphneDiligaf · 07/10/2018 12:39

Bare feet are much better with Ugg boots so leggings and Uggs are perfect combination. Sometimes it's nice to be comfortable.

BrightonGallery7 · 07/10/2018 12:40

“ascetically pleasing all the time.”
That is where we differ, then. I like to look aesthetically pleasing and yes, I have a busy life too. Don’t we all?Hmm

paxillin · 07/10/2018 12:42

I always wonder if people talk about different garments on legging threads. Half the thread thinks of footless tights and the other half of figure hugging, stretchy trousers without pockets. Both are marketed as leggings of course.

Everyoneiswingingit · 07/10/2018 12:42

I'm not large, I'm a size 10. I wear them when it's not quite tights season and bare legs would be not on with a tunic in a work setting sit would be too revealing.

Everyoneiswingingit · 07/10/2018 12:43

*as it would be too revealing.

NutElla5x · 07/10/2018 12:44

I'm just testing

Tallzarazara · 07/10/2018 12:44

Good for you.

To be honest I look nice whatever I wear, whether in my best dress on a night out or in my leggings on the school run.

Shallow, judgmental they are ugly traits.

Everyoneiswingingit · 07/10/2018 12:45

I just don't like the faded, baggy look I feel that I HAVE in leggings. Much better to wear proper, tailored bottoms or tights. And with tights, you don't go round with a seam down your leg spoiling the effect,

Leggings are tight and don't have seams.

JacquesHammer · 07/10/2018 12:45

I wish more men would give us their opinions on leggings. From what I gather, here, some are a less than enthusiastic

And?

SachaStark · 07/10/2018 12:49

Plenty of my friends wear leggings with a seam down the side.

Allthewaves · 07/10/2018 12:50

Yes but not lycra sporty ones. Plain black heavy fabric - usually with dresses or tunic tops that are not thigh - I'm a larger lady

60sname · 07/10/2018 12:53

For me they are in the same category as pyjamas and jogging bottoms - nice and comfy for around the house but not for venturing outside in.

Everyoneiswingingit · 07/10/2018 12:54

Oh that seam!! I thought they meant a seam down the front like tailored trouser or the dreaded ski pant! Remember those? Stirrups!! Grin

Have not RTFT, I will admit.

I wear leggings with a short dress or tunic top (has to cover my bum).
I am a size 8 but I think that look works for all sizes.

I think rather than second guess what DH means with his "jokes", just ask him what he is trying to say? From page one of the comments, it seems that you yourself have any issue with the fact you have put on a little weight. He may not. He may have any number of other reasons for asking.

Whatever his reasoning, if you want to wear them, wear them. I spent too long in a relationship with someone vetting what I wore.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 07/10/2018 12:55

I wear proper running leggings in the gym, but never aside from that. No idea why, it's just never occurred to me to buy any.

I don't understand the whole judgement of those who do; it's just another item of clothing.

rosy71 · 07/10/2018 12:56

I love leggings. I don't wear them instead of trousers though. I usually wear them with a dress or long top.

cricketmum84 · 07/10/2018 12:58

If the leggings fit then wear them. I bloody love leggings and even commit the (apparently) cardinal sin of wearing them under tunic dresses for work.

So nurr to everyone who says you can't Grin

astoundedgoat · 07/10/2018 12:58

They're loungewear and not a substitute for trousers/jeans and no, I would not wear them outside, any more than I would wear pyjama bottoms out. At most, I might wear them under a skirt with boots if it was very cold out. I'm very slim, fwiw.

HenryInTheTunnel · 07/10/2018 12:58

I wear them when comfort is important so either when i'm doing very little, lounging around the house, long journeys etc, and also when i'm being quite active so that i've got free movement.

If i'm trying to look smart i would favour tights or jeans but neither of these are especially comfy.

Beebopdooowopdo · 07/10/2018 13:01

I had no idea that leggings under dresses and tunics were so offensive Grin Thankfully, unlike many other aspects of my life, leggings are one thing I don’t give a shit about when it comes to over peoples opinions! I’m wearing some right now...lovely cosy, stretchy, slobby leggings...I feel so bloody comfy. I will also be going to a kids party in them. I wonder how many mums will judge me Blush

megletthesecond · 07/10/2018 13:02

I know leggings under work dresses are bad. But until we have a warm office then my priority is keeping warm.

bridgetreilly · 07/10/2018 13:03

Leggings are for everyone! But leggings are not trousers for anyone, imo. They go under tunics/skirts/dresses. For me the rule is that it has to be long enough that in hot weather I'd wear it without leggings.

MaisyPops · 07/10/2018 13:03

Gizzygizmo
I'm with you. I do wear my leggings a lot though.

I think you're right on the making an effort front though. It can be easy in a couple to get into wearing comfy, slightly scruffy clothing, just going that extra day without washing your hair, taking the 'but I'm not here to look good for anyone/I'm too busy to bother' approach.

For me it's the same as not spending the day in pyjamas. You get up, get dressed reasonably and aim to look presentable. It's hard to do that if you're wearing faded thinning leggings showing your pants and camel toe.

Leggings can look awesome. They can also fit into the faded, poorly fitting and slightly scruffy clothing category.
