to ask if you wear leggings?

My DH keeps making comments about my leggings - he says things like "are all your other clothes in the wash?"

I always wear a longish, flowy top which covers my hips and bum. When I ask him why he's making these comments he just says he's joking and I need to get a sense of humour!

Are leggings just for very slim women?

... but will expect someone to focus on the misper Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 12:20

Fleece lined tights?

Blood nora! Where do you live that's cold enough to need them!!!

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 07/10/2018 12:20

I live in leggings, predominantly because I really struggle to find trousers to fit (I'm 5"10 and ankle danglers aren't a good look).

n0ne · 07/10/2018 12:21

Very rarely, tbh - I personally think they look a bit scruffy. I wear opaque tights under dresses or skinny jeans under long tops so there's no place for leggings in my wardrobe.

HomeMuffin · 07/10/2018 12:21

I wear them everyday. Love them.

Broken11Girl · 07/10/2018 12:23

I love mine. So comfortable. I wear long tops or dresses over them so my arse is covered.

Beebopdooowopdo · 07/10/2018 12:23

Brighton- I prefer leggings because I hate the feel of tights and feel like they slip down at various points in the day. I am constantly laddering them. I also find shoes more comfortable with socks on rather than tights. I wear tights to work everyday and dislike it so prefer leggings in cosy socks and boots in my free time.

Gizzygizmo · 07/10/2018 12:24

Maisypops even I don’t mind the odd day of leggings, but if it’s continuous and all someone will wear then that’s different.
At one point I had about 10 pairs good quality leggings and rarely wore much else, my partner did comment and I took his comment on board, I did get lazy with my wardrobe.
Now winter is here I do love wearing a knee length dress and thick tights

BrightonGallery7 · 07/10/2018 12:26

I don’t think the leggings lovers are all that amused really, mostdays.

Gizzygizmo · 07/10/2018 12:26

Autum not winter

pinkhorse · 07/10/2018 12:26

Leggings are hideous unfashionable things. They are usually worn by larger people with long tunic type tops. Very unflattering.

ANnieAnoniMouse · 07/10/2018 12:26

Some hilarious comments.

Anyway, yes, I wear leggings. At home I’m pretty much either in leggings or lycra shorts and a long T-shirt, because they’re comfortable. Anyone that doesn’t like it can move out or not visit ‍🤷🏻‍♀️

Out of the house I’ll only wear them under jeans//trousers for warmth or under a VERY long top as I no longer have the figure for wearing them like independent bottom halves. Unfortunately.

IMO they look good on girls/women who have a nice figure IF they’re decent material. They don’t look good on anyone if they’re paper thin.

I think you should talk to your DH to see what his actual point was...then you can decide how you feel about it. Don’t assume it’s weight related.

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 07/10/2018 12:26

"I am a man". And? Who gives a fuck? Why the need to preface your silly little opinion with a declaration of your sex?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/10/2018 12:29

Love my leggings. I wear a top to cover my bum and fanny and don’t really care who sees my legs, whether they object like pp or not. It’s a look I’m really comfortable with.

mostdays · 07/10/2018 12:30

Idk if other people are amused or not, i just find it funny just how annoyed people can be by leggings and how serious they are in telling everyone that leggings are bad. I don't really understand caring that much about what other people wear.

JacquesHammer · 07/10/2018 12:30

*I am a man.

My view of leggings is that they are suitable for no-one. I would not ban them as we live in an (almost) free society, but perhaps do something such as tax to put people off them.

Apart from appearance, I am concerned that leggings encourage denial of weight gain, especially where it gets to the level of being potentially health threatening. If you have to fit into jeans/trousers or even a dress, you may take more notice if you gain weight.

Same goes for men with tracksuit bottoms as well*

Well thank goodness a man is here to give his oh so weighty opinion. Now the little women can stop talking.

Leggings tax Grin

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 07/10/2018 12:31

My god this thread is very revealing isn't it. What sad lives people must lead that they have such strong opinions on what others cover their legs with!

BrightonGallery7 · 07/10/2018 12:32

Black opaque tights look so much more attractive , though, surely? There isn’t that flat look people must get with leggings. Tights stretch over the curvier parts of the leg in an alluring way. That is more attractive. Leggings are...well...leggings.

Tallzarazara · 07/10/2018 12:33

I wear leggings every single day.

I've put on a stone and gone from a 10-12 to nearly a 14. I'm not running out to buy new jeans and trousers, because I will lose the stone.

My leggings are comfortable and practical for everyday wear. They go with boots, trainers, underneath long tops, cardigans and dresses, or with a hoody.

If I was going somewhere special I'd probably wear a dress and tights.

Take no notice of your husband, if he's being nasty he needs pulling up on it.

Everyoneiswingingit · 07/10/2018 12:34

I have a couple of tunic dresses that I wear leggings with for work as they would be a bit too short otherwise. They are thick and the dresses are mid thigh. Hate seeing women wearing thin leggings with short tops. It's like wearing tights out!

BrightonGallery7 · 07/10/2018 12:34

I wish more men would give us their opinions on leggings. From what I gather, here, some are a less than enthusiastic.

BrightonGallery7 · 07/10/2018 12:34

are less

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 12:36

Why surely ? Black tights can look as thin as thin leggings, as thick as thick leggings.

As for stretching over curvier bits, I don't wear tights instead of trousers any more than I wear leggings as trousers, so nobody would know!

No shoes, calf height boots... so leggings. So I don't have to put up with the discomfort of tights!

Tallzarazara · 07/10/2018 12:37

Brightongallery couldn't not pick up on your comment.

Why would I give a flying fuck what a mans opinion is on my leggings? Or anyone's come to that matter?

Why would I give a fuck if tights are more 'attractive'?

I wasn't put on this Earth for decorative purposes, I have far too busy a life than to worry about being ascetically pleasing all the time.

SachaStark · 07/10/2018 12:37

I don't care what's others wear, but, as I said, for me, if I were wearing leggings out, I would PERSONALLY feel scruffy and down on myself, and I don't like to feel that way about what I'm wearing.

I just don't like the faded, baggy look I feel that I HAVE in leggings. Much better to wear proper, tailored bottoms or tights. And with tights, you don't go round with a seam down your leg spoiling the effect, which I PERSONALLY don't like, in the same way I would cut the labels out of a sheer top before I wore it. So as not to spoil the effect. Because it bothers ME.
