To wash my grapes and think it’s weird when people don’t??

Just that. I wash grapes quite thoroughly before I eat them. I take them off the stalks and rub a handful in my hands under the tap to clean them before I eat them.

I find just rinsing them under the tap to be insufficient.

And I know some people would just eat them without washing them at all, which I find odd and a bit gross.

I am pregnant now so extra careful but I have always tried to wash certain fruits and veg thoroughly anyway

I always wash grapes too. I think it's just a personal thing.

Eliza9917 · 04/10/2018 15:28

Wash fruit & veg in hot water & vinegar, it takes all residue & wax off.

BitchyChuckle · 04/10/2018 15:29

Never washed a grape or any fruit

PiperPublickOccurrences · 04/10/2018 15:29

Good for you. You're obviously so much cleaner/healthier/better than the non-washing, filthy folk.

DickensianHysteric · 04/10/2018 15:31

But life is so short, it's good to save water and I don't think anyone has ever died from eating an unwashed grape. Wink

Thesexyskeleton · 04/10/2018 15:31

I wash them as I don’t like that dry (dusty?) texture they have, it makes my mouth feel funny.

NewGrandad · 04/10/2018 15:34

Nope. Just nope. And somehow I'm still alive.

AliceRR · 04/10/2018 15:36

@TheSexySkeleton Exactly they feel dirty / dusty if not washed 🤔

Not dead yet....🍇

A580Hojas · 04/10/2018 15:37

Yanbu! I find it completely gross when people don't wash fruit and veg. Takes seconds.

Enjoli · 04/10/2018 15:38

I wash all fruit and vegetables. Of course.

rackhampearl · 04/10/2018 15:38

I wash all fruit before it goes into the bowl. Mainly cos of the sprays they use to preserve and grow ect.

AdoraBell · 04/10/2018 15:39

I wash fruit, but not as thoroughly as you do OP

123LiloLill · 04/10/2018 15:40

Do you really think the people who harvest the fruit wash their hands after taking a pee/carp. In some countries where fruit is from there simply aren't the facilities for the workers. Also, do you think the fruit is stored and transported in rat free conditions? Also mushrooms... they are literally grown in shit.

LondonJax · 04/10/2018 15:41

I wash all my fruit and veg ever since I got Ecoli poisoning.

My GP reported it and I got a call from the health authority who checked where I'd eaten during a set time. They then asked if I always washed salad items and fruit as Ecoli had been found in vegetables (it's in the soil) - salad's the main thing as we eat it raw. The lady said very occasionally fruit can cause a problem because bacteria can be on animals that brush against it or in bird droppings if they poo on it (enough to make me wash everything anyway - urgh!)

  • crap!
easyandy101 · 04/10/2018 15:42

If water washed off insecticide then they wouldn't bother putting it on

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 04/10/2018 15:44

It’s more about who has been handling then in the food chain for me. I might be lazy and scrimp on the washing if something is going to be cooked (excluding where there’s visible dirt) but fruit or anything eaten raw surely has to be washed?!

tigercub50 · 04/10/2018 15:46

I always rinse fruit & veg

Thesexyskeleton · 04/10/2018 15:46

@AliceRR 100% with you here 👌🏻

THEsonofaBITCH · 04/10/2018 15:48

I always wash to remove any insecticides and small insects possibly still lurking.

Ollivander84 · 04/10/2018 15:50

I've never washed fruit or veg, unless it's obviously got stuff on like in celery or wiping off mushrooms. My consultant would prefer me not to eat bagged salad as I've not really any immune system but never mind!

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/10/2018 16:00

I can't fathom having time and headspace to care if other people wash grapes. Wash them. Don't wash them. I couldn't give the tiniest of shites.

Although I just replied to this thread so what do I know?

Katedotness1963 · 04/10/2018 16:01

I wash my fruit and veg. My mil had words with me about how I don’t wash them properly and not to do it at her house. I have no idea what’s properly. Not dead yet!

DreamsofJacaranda · 04/10/2018 16:03

I leave grapes to stand in water for a few minutes, drain and rinse them well, then put them in fresh water with a little vinegar for a couple of minutes before rinsing well.

The grapes we get here are as picked, ie not the selected ones you get in supermarkets. You wouldn’t believe how much dirt/dust comes off them.
