To wash my grapes and think it’s weird when people don’t??

Just that. I wash grapes quite thoroughly before I eat them. I take them off the stalks and rub a handful in my hands under the tap to clean them before I eat them.

I find just rinsing them under the tap to be insufficient.

And I know some people would just eat them without washing them at all, which I find odd and a bit gross.

I am pregnant now so extra careful but I have always tried to wash certain fruits and veg thoroughly anyway

Easy Andy totally with you there.
My grapes are pre packaged from the supermarket they’ve already been cleaned. I would probably rinse greengrocer ones

Eliza9917 · 04/10/2018 16:04

I've got a specific brush for washing veg/hard fruit Grin

Ps how would a rinse in cold water kill ecoli?

PiggeryPorcombe · 04/10/2018 16:14

Pretty sure it wouldn’t @glintandglide. Ditto pesticides.

I only wash fruit and veg if it’s got actual soil on it. Not sure what a “dusty” grape is?

ribblerobble · 04/10/2018 16:17

I wash grapes so that I can't see the musty crap but I am aware my brief run under the tap realistically does nothing :-)

LinoleumBlownapart · 04/10/2018 16:19

I always wash fruit and veg, but I live in South America so I'd be an idiot if I didn't.

Sparklingbrook · 04/10/2018 16:21

I have seen plenty of dusty grapes. I prefer them washed.

LinoleumBlownapart · 04/10/2018 16:21

in vinegar, water doesn't do diddly.

Soubriquet · 04/10/2018 16:21

I don’t wash any of my fruit

Even the ones I pick off the bush outside.

JennyOnAPlate · 04/10/2018 16:23

I don't wash fruit or veg. Except when I'm at DMs house because she's very scary I can't be doing with aggro.

AliceRR · 04/10/2018 16:24

I think it’s interesting. I worked with a young lady who said she cleaned each grape with a tissue before she ate it as that’s what her grandma did...

That also takes the “dust” off 😬

OP posts:
LinoleumBlownapart · 04/10/2018 16:25

that dust is actually natural on grapes though, we have a vine in the garden and they are all dusty. Unless the monkeys are doing things that shouldn't be done with grapes Grin

I dry rub each individual grape to get the dust off. Can't bear the thought of eating the yeast. So, I very rarely buy grapes now!

YellowStickies · 04/10/2018 16:29

Cost posts. It's not just me then! And the dust is yeast.

ShotsFired · 04/10/2018 16:29

D'you wanna wash this Biscuit as well?

Honestly, what the fuck do you care if someone else disinfects their fruit or not. Are they forcefeeding it to you? Did you not realise there are people who do and don't rinse fruit?

jarhead123 · 04/10/2018 16:29

I dont wash any fruit.

THEsonofaBITCH · 04/10/2018 16:30

Almost 75 to 80 percent of pesticide residues are removed by cold water rinsing.16 Aug 2017 according to CSE/NDTV/others
better is cold water washing with rubbing the fruit or vegetable

Hairyhat · 04/10/2018 16:30

I have my grapes like this 🍷

MyChemicalMummy · 04/10/2018 16:31

Never heard of washing fruit in vinegar!

I'm don't wash mine so I most be a scank.

Hairyhat · 04/10/2018 16:31

No need to worry about the dust ..

SerenStar0 · 04/10/2018 16:32

Why would a normal person even post this? Or maybe op is an overdrown grape alien person

peachsquish · 04/10/2018 16:32

I wash them now, after finding a small white spider in the grapes.

What are you trying to wash off?

Pesticides & insecticides.
Germs from other people handling it.
Mice or rat urine.
The shit/vomit flies leave behind.
Dust & dirt.
Caterpillars & bugs.
