All seems to indicate that it's now crunch time for the UK. In the style of another active thread, I'd like to ask you all what you'd go for if given a binary choice between No Deal at all with the EU or Remain.
No blame game or mud slinging, just simple polite answers please.

OP posts:
Gersemi · 04/10/2018 11:27

Nesssie, would you seriously have voted no even on the basis of a No deal exit? Even with all the consequences of that being fully spelt out?

SymphonyofShadows · 04/10/2018 11:28

Remain, always. All this 'the people voted' is bollocks when it was based on lies.

MorningsEleven · 04/10/2018 11:28

Remain, always has been my answer.

trancepants · 04/10/2018 11:28

Although God knows, the EU aren't exactly selling themselves with their treatment of the UK are they?

Seriously? The UK is behaving absolutely disgustingly towards Ireland in these negotiations and the EU isn't having it. The Tory's are either lying through their teeth or mind-boggling ignorant about NI, the I/NI border and the complete sovereignty of Ireland.

The UK is demanding many concessions that the EU has said from day one would never, ever be allowed. They put down numerous boundaries from day one and said they will negotiate but their boundaries are their boundaries. Ireland and the EU has believed a deal had been reached on more than one occasion only to have the DUP stomp on it. Theresa May has lied about having plans to deal with the Irish backstop right up until the meeting where she pledged to outline her plans.

The DUP, part of the current British government, have made very, very clear threats of loyalist paramilitary violence resuming against EU citizens in the UK, possibly against an EU country.

I mean the 'cherry on top' instagram post was childish, bait-y bullshit. But compared to completely ignoring what the EU has always said, lying about their deal, constantly making deals that are immediately reneged on and allowing their junior coalition partner to threaten guerrilla warfare against EU citizens.................. Who isn't selling themselves? It's an absolute miracle that the EU is even still investing any time and effort beyond saying, ah fuck it, just go implode.

ACatsNoHelpWithThat · 04/10/2018 11:29

Remain, always. All this 'the people voted' is bollocks when it was based on lies.

This ^^

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 04/10/2018 11:29

Remain... but I voted remain and nothing that has happened since has done anything to change my mind.

tubularfells · 04/10/2018 11:30

Remain 100%

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 04/10/2018 11:30

Remain, obviously. Too much as stake for future generations to observe the result of a vote that should never have happened, based on bullshit and misinformation, that will send the country into an economic tailspin for decades. Exit From Brexit, take the flack, save the country.

Member · 04/10/2018 11:31

REMAIN

MrsRhubarb · 04/10/2018 11:32

Remain. Always.

trancepants · 04/10/2018 11:34

I don’t understand the ‘over a barrel’ comments - am I the only one with faith that if we somehow manage to turn this around, the EU will behave reasonably? It is, at heart, a union of peace. I can’t imagine what advantage there would be to vindictive behaviour - I’m sure Germany and France remember the Treaty of Versailles.

If the UK does turn this around and decide to remain, then everything goes back to how it has been, with the exception that the UK can't ever really threaten to leave again. It will be a slightly weaker position and embarrassing but in reality, nothing substantial will have changed. If the UK leaves and then ever tries to go back it will be with a completely different and less powerful position. This has to be stopped asap, if it is, the UK will have lost nothing more than a bit of face. The EU will mostly be massively eager to consign the whole episode to history and move on.

YeTalkShiteHen · 04/10/2018 11:34

This, absolutely this. Ireland is a member state, the U.K. wants to leave. Why would (or should) the EU prioritise the fannies flouncing over a member state?

The Irish/Northern Irish border issue seems to have come as a surprise to far more people than I expected.

I’m surprised so many people are ignorant of something which isn’t new, and was widely talked about in the run up to the referendum.

For those of us who remember it, and even more pertinent, those who lived through the Troubles, this ignorance is not only staggering, it’s terrifying.

Winterbella · 04/10/2018 11:36

Remain - best option
No Deal - dangerous option

DontCallMeCharlotte · 04/10/2018 11:36

Fair point(s) well made.

I was only saying what I see - which is worrying in itself because my news source (BBC mostly) hasn't made this half as clear and explicit as you have.

We could do with someone like you dealing with the negotiations because you have a much better handle on it than the media and the government (and, no I'm not being sarcastic).

YeTalkShiteHen · 04/10/2018 11:37

I have to say the BBC are as partisan as the Daily Fail these days.

PigletJohn · 04/10/2018 11:38

Remain.

Batteriesallgone · 04/10/2018 11:48

I don’t feel the difficulties with the I/NI border were well known or widely talked about. I’m South England based and it wasn’t talked about amongst my friends or family.

Defrack · 04/10/2018 11:51

Remain.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 04/10/2018 11:52

Remain and agree with @tracepants

I imagine certain EU members will be a bit smug but the consequences wouldn't be worse than that. I don't think the EU are behaving badly really - their mandate is to look out for the their members, it would be neglectful of them to go soft on the UK.

I do hope the whole episode shakes things up within the EU though, there was and is a degree of stagnation.

YeTalkShiteHen · 04/10/2018 11:53

I don’t feel the difficulties with the I/NI border were well known or widely talked about. I’m South England based and it wasn’t talked about amongst my friends or family.

So none of you realised that a hard border in NI would be catastrophic? None of you knew anything about historical treatment of the Irish people by successive UK governments or anything about The Troubles?

The information was there, it was always there.

Theworldwentwhite · 04/10/2018 11:54

Remain

OutPinked · 04/10/2018 11:54

100000% remain.

blueangel1 · 04/10/2018 11:55
