Just tested myself to a bar of fruit and nut and it's about half the thickness, fine whatever you stingy bastards. But wtaf have you done to the taste?! It's greasy and has a bad flavour like a fatty sweet taste not a nice sweet taste.

Am I alone?! Yucky.

Thornton's still use traditional ingredients and cocoa butter 😋

Genevieva · 02/10/2018 22:09

Mondelez also own Toblerone. Even Green and Blacks is mart of the Mondelez family. I don't understand why they have destroyed Cadbury's but not these other brands. www.mondelezinternational.com/brand-family

I buy a lot less chocolate than I used to, but when I buy it I either buy Lindt or some obscure independent brands like Kernow Chocolate.

redcaryellowcar · 02/10/2018 22:10

Buy montezumas chocolate, it's British made (nearChichester) and is absolutely delicious.

Genevieva · 02/10/2018 22:14

I'll look Montesumas up. My local deli has Kernow so there isn't any postage, but I have just looked at their website and there are more choices - www.kernowchocolate.co.uk/chocolate/chocolate-bars/becky-bettesworth-collection/

Genevieva · 02/10/2018 22:17

So it seems that Mondelez are ruining Green and Blacks too, according to Wikipedia, 'In August 2017 the Company launched its first product line, the Velvet Edition, which is neither Fair Trade nor Organic.'

Seniorschoolmum · 02/10/2018 22:25

Cheap corn syrup and lower milk content.

Have you noticed the wording of the ad has changed. It used to say “a glass and a half of full cream milk in every bar”. Now it says “a glass and a half in everyone”

A glass and a half of what? Everyone what?

Maybe Thornton’s will step up, because Dairy Milk just isn’t good any more.

Not that I’ve thought about it much. Grin

Montezuma buttons are AMAZING but SO expensive

longwayoff · 03/10/2018 05:48

Montezumas white chocolate caramels with mango chili lime filling are beyond delicious. I dont like white chocolate ordinarily nor keen on chili but they are it. Quite pricy but worth every penny.

bellabasset · 03/10/2018 06:28

Big bars of dairy milk with those thick squares of chocolate you could want to melt in your mouth. Mum used a knife to finely chop it to put on top of pudding or hot chocolate. Sadly no more. What is it with those bits of Oreo ugh.

Ritter is quite good and Aldi.as well. I use Sainsbury Belgian baking chocolate and that's better than Cadbury. As well as Kernow there is always Trenance which I buy at Lobbs when I pop up to Heligan.

ohlittlepea · 03/10/2018 06:38

Yeah it's ruined :( so gutting as just loved Cadbury as a brand.

Co op fair trade chocolate is nice, and the dark chocolate with coconut milk is lush from Waitrose.

Thorntons and Montezuma charge an awful lot for products that aren't fair trade, there's a lot of slavery in the cocoa imdustry so ethical chocolate is important.

Basecamp65 · 03/10/2018 06:39

We bought a WW1 soldiers ration pack as part of a project. Everything made to WW1 recipes.

The chocolate was the best I have ever tasted - actually tasted like chocolate not sugar and fats.

Sadly not feasible to buy on a regular basis.

Peterrabbitscarrots · 03/10/2018 07:05

I'm Irish and the misfortune of tasting a yellow snack bar. There's now 4 biscuits as opposed to six and the chocolate is sickly sweet. Weirdly, the purple snack is as good as ever.

I adore the purple one but sadly I don’t see it often in the U.K. we always buy a few packs when in ROI

crimson72 · 03/10/2018 07:26

I like Green and Black milk chocolate a lot, but am disappointed to hear it belongs to the same company that ruined Cadbury’s. Considering not buying it again now as I don’t want to contribute to their profits!

WhoLetTheCatsOut · 03/10/2018 07:28

I can't tell the difference but maybe I've been eating older stock recently? I'm addicted to the dairy milk with daim in.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/10/2018 07:32

Tbh the cheap Lidl chocolate is better

PiperPublickOccurrences · 03/10/2018 07:32

They've changed the recipe to use cheaper ingredients. You're tight - Cadbury chocolate is inedible, we don't buy it any more.

Aldi moser roth is good, as is the plain milk chocolate Lindt. If you want proper chocolatey chocolate then avoid crappy Cadburys.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 03/10/2018 07:33

Right, not tight.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 03/10/2018 07:39

Also we like Divine chocolate - I think they have it in Waitrose and Oxfam stock it too. It's not super cheap, but it is fairtrade and no palm oil. I think a small bar in Oxfam is about 90p.

ToadOfSadness · 03/10/2018 07:39

Read the labels, most Green and Black has palm oil, however it all tastes like cardboard anyway and I binned the last one I bought not realising it had changed until it was too late.

Toblerone is not nice any more, Galaxy is also crap. Cadbury is sugar and palm oil. Lindt has also been ruined with it.

I was buying Waitrose chocolate as it still tasted like chocolate but noticed it had changed and tasted like cardboard with sugar flavouring so that also went in the bin, the label didn't say palm oil but it was revolting anyway, perhaps the labels hadn't been re-printed, either way I won't be buying it again.

Dark chocolate is the only one that is chocolatey but I miss decent milk chocolate and make do with Sainsburys TTD biscuits made with butter and coated in dark chocolate as a treat. If they change I will just give up.

BatShitBitchChops · 03/10/2018 07:40

Tenance chocolate is lovely. We went into the shop when we were down that way recently and spent a fortune. It is all gone now so I will be ordering some more of their Turkish delight online.

MigGril · 03/10/2018 07:40

No it's getting worse, they have now changed galaxy to. It doesn't taste the same any more. I've given up don't know what to buy anymore.

ToadOfSadness · 03/10/2018 07:44

I also used to get the cheap Lidl chocolate but it is much sweeter now, too sweet.

Ritter also has palm oil, it didn't but the last time I looked it was listed in the ingredients so put it back.

Chocolate is going the a of the 'chocolate flavoured' coating that people think is actually chocolate as the don't read the labels.

HermansHermit · 03/10/2018 08:01

I'm on a mission to avoid everything with palm oil since having a horrid experience with a tub of Roses a couple of years ago. Do these manufacturers really think we can't tell when they change the recipe? It's a shame they have ruined the old favourites like Roses and Quality Street but hey ho I might actually lose some weight if I can't find anything to binge on.

There are good reasons to avoid palm oil apart from the taste.

I get my choc fix from Lidl now.

LavendarGreen · 03/10/2018 08:07

I think dairy milk still tastes the same. However, much of Cadbury's other stuff is rank now... Cadbury's caramel, double decker, many of their Easter eggs etc. And the MARS products too. Mars, Snickers, Milky Way etc. And Rolos are actually vile now. Taste like feet. Even Thorntons chocolates are not great now. And Dairy Box taste all the same.

So YANBU. Helps my diet, but the death of lovely-tasting chocolate makes me a bit sad. Galaxy is still OK. PLEASE don't change! Sad
